    Two-piano performance : its classification, history, and challenges, with a compilation of a detailed catalogue of works

    Research into the art of duo piano playing has been severely neglected. Repertoire is generally incorporated into books on solo piano playing and is often omitted from chamber work listings. With the exception of one outdated, out-of-print book by Hans Moldenhauer, I no author has attempted to submit a recent repertoire listing or a complete examination of the complications of duo pianism. The growth in the number of duos and the increasing number of concerts devoted to their repertoire indicates a previously unmatched public interest in the genre. The aim of this thesis is to serve as a reference guide for educators and pianists, in understanding the classification problems of the duo piano genre and how it relates to other pianistic combinations, an examination of the history of two-piano works until 1950, a look at professional and artistic challenges of duo piano playing, and a catalogue of works written for the medium. Confusion exists about the meaning of the word duet. At issue is whether the genre refers to two pianists at one keyboard exclusively, or whether it incorporates two pianists at two keyboards. Various sources were consulted to show that no uniform definition is available. In this initial chapter background to the study is given, available literature is reviewed and research methodology is explained

The book is written legibly for readers in dance studies, the social sciences, and dance practice. Considering how the choreography of Duo emerged through practice and changed over two decades of history (1996-2018), Elizabeth Waterhouse offers a nuanced picture of creative cooperation and institutionalized process. She presents a compelling vision of choreography as a nexus of people, im/material practices, contexts, and relations.     The classical guitar/piano duo is an ensemble seldom heard in concert halls today. A concern about the dynamic imbalance between the two instruments has most likely deterred composers from writing music for the duo. Use of modern technology to slightly amplify the guitar, however, provides a new opportunity to create music for the classical guitar and modern piano duo. The first section of this paper addresses issues of style, texture and range in selecting music to arrange for the classical guitar/piano duo. The second section provides three arrangements for the classical guitar/piano duo by the author. These are: "La Gatica" by Antonio Lauro, originally written for solo guitar, "Intermezzo" by Manuel Ponce, originally written for solo piano, and Sonata in D Major, K. 444 (L. 420) by Domenico Scarlatti, originally written for keyboard.</p

    Skin-Stiffener Separation in T-Stiffened Composite Specimens in Postbuckling Condition

    An experimental and numerical investigation was conducted to study the skin-stiffener separation of single T-shape stiffener specimens in postbuckling condition. Three specimens were manufactured with a centrally located Teflon insert, and were loaded in compression until collapse. Deformation patterns and separation evolution were monitored during the tests. To measure the full-field displacements and the strain distributions of the specimens, a digital image correlation (DIC) system was used. Skin-stiffener separation was observed and measured with an ultrasound system. Finite-element (FE) analyses were conducted to capture interlaminar damage mechanism based on the virtual crack closure technique. The numerical analysis accurately predicted the postbuckling deformation and the skin-stiffener separation behavior. The close correlation between the experimental and numerical results allows for further exploitation of the strength reserve in the postbuckling region and wider design options for the next generation of composite aircraft designs.</p
