Synthesis and Characterization of Heterobimetallic Oxo-Bridged Aluminum–Rare Earth Metal Complexes
Reaction of the aluminum hydroxide LAl(OH)[C(Ph)CH(Ph)] (1, L = HC[(CMe)(NAr)](2), Ar = 2,6-iPr(2)C(6)H(3)) with Y(CH2SiMe3)(3)(THF)(2) yielded the oxo-bridged heterobimetallic yttrium dialkyl complex LAl[C(Ph)CH(Ph)](mu-O)Y(CH2SiMe3)(2)(THF)(2) (2). Alkane elimination reaction of 2 with 2-(imino)pyrrole [NN]H ([NN]H = 2-(ArN=CH)-5-tBuC(4)H(2)NH) afforded the yttrium monoalkyl complex LAl[C(Ph)CH (Ph)] (mu-O)Y(CH2SiMe3)[NN] (THF)(2) (5). Alternatively, 5 can be prepared in high yield by reaction of 1 with [NN]Y(CH2SiMe3)(2)(THF)(2) (3). The analogous samarium alkyl complex LAl[C(Ph)CH(Ph)](mu-O)Sm(CH2SiMe3)[NN](THF)(2) (6) was prepared similarly. Reactions of 5 and 6 with 1 equiv of iPrOH yielded the corresponding alkoxyl complexes 7 and 8, respectively. The molecular structures of 3, 6, and 8 have been determined by X-ray single-crystal analysis. Complexes 2, 3, 5, 7, and 8 have been investigated as lactide polymerization initiators. The heterobimetallic alkoxyl 8 is highly active to yield high molecular weight (M-n = 6.91 x 10(4)) polylactides with over 91% conversion at the lactide-to-initiator molar ratio of 2000.Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaf
Early Short Stories by Taiwanese writer Huang Chunming
Huang Chunming is an important author of modern Taiwanese literature, who was active in the second half of the twentieth century. The author's work has underwent a dramatic change in the course of the years - the thematic focus of his early works differs greatly from his later ones. In spite of the important position that this author's work holds among other Taiwanese classics, is the study of his work in western sinology very insufficient. This thesis presents a thematic and motivic analysis of six selected Huang Chunming's literary works created between the years 1967 and 1971. The primary focus lies on the ways of depicting the Taiwanese countryside and the literary characters, the so called "small people", which are inhabiting this fictional space and time. This work also considers the similarities between Huang Chunming's work and Taiwanese modernist literature as well as the work of some important modern Chinese authors (Lu Xun, Shen Congwen). Key words: Taiwanese literature, Chinese literature, Huang Chunming, literary character, short stor
Taiwan xiangtu writer Huang Chunming: Three short stories, with a critical introduction
This introduction serves to provide a sketch of the circumstances that led to the prominence of "nativist," or xiangtu literature from the Republic of China (i.e. Taiwan) in the late twentieth century. Huang Chunming, the author of the stories featured in this thesis, has been a prolific writer from the east of the Taiwan Straits since 1962, and has contributed to the popularization of Taiwanese xiangtu literature in the decades of the island's industrialization experience. In Huang's world of fictional characters, readers have multifaceted records of the Taiwanese people's lives and the culture of their native soil

Aluminum (I, II, III) Compounds with Multidentate Ligands: Syntheses, Reactivity, and Structures
In this dissertation, bulky multidentate ligands 1-aza-allyl, N-functionized aryl, diketiminato were used for the preparation of novel aluminum compounds in all oxidation states. The reactivity of base stabilized aluminum hydrides towards chalcogens were investigated. The reduction of diketiminato aluminum dihalide with potassium afforded the first instance of a carbene analogue of aluminum, whereas similar reduction in the presence of alkynes generated cyclopropene analogues of aluminum. The reactions and structures of these unique species were presented
Build a Dashboard Application for NOVs eVolve Automation System
The project is completed by cooperating with NOV. The purpose of the project is to make a dashboard application that gathers the essential information, monitors the running status of the devices, and presents an overview of the NOV eVolve Automation System.
NOV eVolve Automation System is a system that includes hardware and software to enable the integration between downhole tools and surface automation systems through Intelliserve Wired DrillPipe. Intelliserve Wired Drillpipe is a solution that enables high-speed data connection with sensors in the hole while drilling.
The goal is to make a dashboard application that shows hardware status, network communication status between the computers, and remote desktop connection from a Windows system machine to remote computers. The dashboard application will be installed and run on a Windows 10 machine, called a Wired Drill Pipe terminal (WDP terminal). C# is an object-oriented and component-oriented programming language studied by the author to build the dashboard application. Chapter 2 presents an introduction of C# and the history and features of the C# programming language.
Chapter 3 presents technology and methodology with the source code. Chapter 4 uses graphics to explain the relationships between the individual event handler and the components on the user interface of the dashboard application. There are two URL links attached in chapter 5. One links to a video for a demonstration of the dashboard application, and the other URL link points to the GitHub repository where all the source code files store.
Chapter 6 gives a conclusion for the project and provides suggestions for further development. The author independently writes fourteen pages of source code to implement the NOV Dashboard application. Besides, the author finishes the bachelor thesis on her own, which is 97 pages in total.
The completed dashboard application achieves all the goals above and is confirmed by NOV. Besides, the dashboard application can detect the offline time and the duration of the devices’ downtime. Moreover, the author adds an extra function to the dashboard application to establish a remote connection with any of the devices over the network communication and builds a JSON file that stores information for later investigation.
Running the completed dashboard application on the WDP terminal helps the NOV system engineers diagnose and resolve the potential problems once there are issues delivered from the offshore rig. Saving the time to identify the issue is the most significant benefit of using the dashboard application, especially when the rig is at downtime by accident
Synthesis of Phosphine-Functionalized Silicon Cubane and Its Oxidative Addition, Giving a Bis(silyl)copper Complex
A new strategy for the introduction of a second type
of Si atom
to silicon cubanes has been developed starting from the tricyclic
hexasilane dianion [Ar6Si6]2– (Ar = 2,4,6-Me3C6H2). Treatment
of the dianion with Ar′SiCl3, followed by KC8, gave new types of octasilacubanes Ar6Ar′2Si8 [Ar′ = 2,4,6-iPr2C6H2 (3a), 2-Ph2PC6H4 (3b)] in high yields. Remarkably,
treatment of cubane 3b bearing with two phosphine groups
with 2 equiv of CuCl in CH2Cl2 yielded the bis(silyl)copper
complex via the selective oxidative addition of the newly formed Si–Si
bond to Cu ion. Single-crystal X-ray analysis indicated the unique
square-planar, four-coordinate Cu cation paired with the [CuCl2]− counteranion
