In the following article we will offer some reflections on history in Hannah Arendt’s work, starting from the premise that it is based on her concept of action. To this end, we will turn to different texts in which the German author discussed crucial notions for her definition of the human condition, namely, the three activities under which man was given life on Earth –labor, work and action– and the separation between the public and the private. Our link with the past and its relation to both the present and the future will also be at the center of the journey we will propose here.Fil: Svampa, María Lucila. El acceso completo al dataset estará disponible el 2025-09-06 en https://hdl.handle.net/11441/162315[Background] Antibiotics could modify multidrug-resistant microorganisms (MDRO) populations in urban wastewater. Water treatment plays a major role in their control. This study aimed to explain the characteristics of multidrug-resistant Gram-negative bacteria in the wastewater of a city in southern Spain, the reduction achieved by treatment and the influence of human antibiotic prescriptions.[Methods] We collected 24-hour composite water samples from four wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) over one year (2021-2022) and cultured them quantitatively. All acquired ESBL/carbapenemase isolates were sequenced and genomes were compared with those of clinical isolates. Linear mixed model regression analyses were performed to assess the WWTP effect and the association with human antibiotic prescriptions.[Findings] Aeromonas predominated among the MDROs and KPC-2 was the main carbapenemase detected in the influents. The 44% and 30% of E. coli and K. pneumoniae influent isolates, respectively, belonged to high-risk clones; 10·6% of Enterobacteriaceae could be matched to clinical isolates and a strain from a current hospital outbreak was found in raw samples. WWTPs reduced ESBL and carbapenemase producers by 1·4-log and 1·8-log, respectively. New MDROs and persistence of certain strains were detected in effluents. Quinolone and cephalosporin prescriptions, flow-rate and population density were associated with higher OXA-48 producer counts.[Interpretation] Despite the reduction, additional technologies should be implemented in WWTPs receiving hospital discharges. Due to the predominance of environmental species, culture and metagenomic approaches should be combined to differentiate human and sewages origin for antibiotic resistance monitoring. Antibiotic stewardship could be a strategy to reduce the release of MDROs.Junta de Andalucía.

Tliis article traces the paths of intolerance as a result of the new discoveries in Science and technology. The goal of this paper is to review the medieval literary knight's transformations upon its rising in the chansons de geste through its entrenchment as the protagonist character into the most representatives medieval romances of chivalry. The author analyzes the added features from the design of the Romanic epic hero, passing through the classic romances and the Chrétien de Troyes' creations, until the works in prose of the XIIIth Century. Features that include the love and the religion, items so important for the knight design as we known

Antibiotics can modify populations of multidrug-resistant microorganism (MDRO) in urban wastewater. Our objectives were to quantify the differences in MDR Gram-negative bacteria between influents and effluents of WWTPs of a Spanish city and to evaluate the influence of human antibiotic prescriptions, as well as the persistence of these bacteria after treatment and their genetic relatedness to clinical isolates. The mean count of ESBL producers and carbapenemase producers were 3.77 and 2.74 log 10 CFU/ml, respectively. The reduction achieved by water treatment of ESBL-producing organisms was 1.4-log (96.11 %), whereas a 1.8-log reduction (98.36 %) was obtained regarding carbapenemase producing organisms. Aeromonas spp. predominated among MDROs and blaKPC-2 was the main carbapenemase detected in the influent wastewater samples. Among Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae influent isolates, 44 % and 30 %, respectively, belonged to high-risk clones. Regarding Enterobacteriaceae, 10.6 % matched clinical isolates and one strain from an ongoing hospital outbreak was identified among raw samples. New MDROs and persistence of certain strains were detected in effluent samples. Quinolone and third-generation cephalosporin prescriptions, flow rate and population density were associated with higher OXA-48 producer counts. Despite reductions, additional technologies should be implemented in WWTPs receiving hospital discharges. Given the prevalence of environmental species, culture-based and metagenomic approaches should be combined to distinguish between human and sewage sources for antibiotic resistance monitoring. Overall, this study shows that WWTPs with secondary treatment are effective at removing MDRO, and antibiotic stewardship is a potential strategy to reduce the release of MDROs.This research was supported by PY20_01346 2020- I+D+i projects (PAIDI 2020 from Consejería de Universidad, Investigación e Innovación. 80 % financed by FEDER funds “Andalucía se mueve con Europa”) with the project title: “Proyecto Vastum: Detección de Gram negativos productores de carbapenemasas en aguas residuales: estudio poblacional de Sevilla y medición del impacto en vertidos”, and by the Fundación Francisco Soria Melguizo with the project title: “Nuevas estrategias para limitar la selección y transmisión de poblaciones microbianas productoras de carbapenemasas desde una perspectiva One-Health (MicroCarbaFlux, CC23140547)”.Peer reviewe

    No full text
This article explores, from a practitioner's point of view, some of the challenges and learning opportunities that occur when organizations partner-up to meet the needs of refugees. This article also highlights the factors that have contributed to the success of a seven-year "service partnership." The author proposes that the process to establish the partnership is as important as the actual service delivery. The commitment and investment of time and resources are essential requirements for the sustainability of a collaborational approach to providing services for refugees.

    Enthusiasm as a historical-political affect

    No full text
The affective turn offers an analysis of the most significant changes that this terrain has transited: on the one hand, both the opposition between reason and affections, and the association of the latter with a private and feminized environment have lost validity in recent years and on the other, there is a strong tendency of contemporary conservatism to hierarchize emotions. In this work we wonder where to place enthusiasm in this context, understood as an historical-political affection. To do this, we will dwell on the Kantian philosophy of history, which in the context of the French Revolution, identifies it as a political sign of progress. The author of the critics points out that since universal history must be understood as an idea, we can only think of it as a guiding thread. There then the shared enthusiasm of the spectators -who do not actively participate in the revolutionary events- would come to demarcate the possibility of progress, of which we can never have absolute certainty. Finally, we will stop at the political productivity of this affection, in relation to desire and the sublime, exploring its link with fraternity and its distance from illusion.

In this paper, I explore the theoretical contributions made by Mexican writer Cristina Rivera Garza in her work Los muertos indóciles. Necroescrituras y desapropiación (2019), particularly those concerning the relationship between writing and death, the notion of “author” and “desapropiación” (disappropriation). These notions propose alternative forms of writing and even an alternative language—that respond to an atrocious reality. First, I examine the relevance of a mode of thought that oscillates between journalism and the essayistic spirit of Rivera Garza’s theoretical project, especially as it entails a stance on the act of speaking. Secondly, I explore the challenges that destabilize conventional understandings of “author” and “literature”, placing emphasis on writings that resist dehumanizing environments. Finally, I argue that, in dialogue with American philosopher Judith Butler, as well as other authors from the critical tradition, Rivera Garza advocates for the articulation of a different language from and for the dead, a language capable of processing grief and collectivizing language.
