Evaluación del forraje hidropónico de cebada (Hordeum vulgare) en sistemas de alimentación durante el crecimiento del Cuy (Cavia porcellus)

Departamento Académico de Producción AnimalEl estudio se llevó a cabo en el Laboratorio de Animales Menores de la Universidad Nacional Agraria La Molina, entre setiembre y noviembre de 2017, con la finalidad de analizar y comparar diversos sistemas de alimentación en el crecimiento de cuyes (Cavia porcellus), teniendo como base vegetal el forraje verde hidropónico (FVH) de cebada (Hordeum vulgare); y como control, forraje fresco de maíz (chala). Se trabajó durante 68 días, desde la producción del FVH, empleándose 80 cuyes machos mejorados de 14 ± 5 días de edad, con una adaptación de cinco días, antes del inicio del experimento durante siete semanas. Los animales se distribuyeron al azar en cinco tratamientos con cuatro repeticiones cada uno. Los tratamientos fueron: Alimento balanceado integral (T1), solo FVH (T2), solo chala (T3), alimento balanceado mixto más FVH (T4) y el testigo, que consistía en alimento balanceado mixto más chala (T5). Los resultados reafirmaron que los sistemas de alimentación, donde se suministró solo forraje (T2 y T3) son significativamente ineficientes (p0.05) en los diversos parámetros productivos entre la alimentación mixta e integral; ni tampoco entre el uso de FVH y la chala de maíz. Por lo expuesto, el FVH de cebada puede usarse como sustituto de la chala en sistemas de alimentación mixta para cuyes en la etapa de crecimiento; debiendo tener en cuenta los costos de forraje alternativo, el balanceado, así como el valor del cuy en cada etapa de producción y lugar de crianza, ya que la opción integral, fue en general la de mejor resultado técnico económicoThe study was conducted at the Laboratory of Minor Animals of the La Molina National Agrarian University between September and November 2017. The purpose of the research was to analyze and compare different feeding systems in the growth of guinea pigs (Cavia porcellus). The plant-based hydroponic green fodder (HGF) corresponded to barley (Hordeum vulgare) and the control to fresh maize forage (chala). The work was carried out for 68 days, from the production of the HGF, using 80 improved male guinea pigs of 14 ± 5 days of age, with an adaptation of five days before the beginning of the experiment for seven weeks. The animals were randomly distributed in five treatments with four repetitions each. The treatments were: integral balanced feed (T1), only HGF (T2), only chala (T3), mixed balanced feed plus HGF (T4) and the control, which consisted of mixed balanced feed and chala (T5). The results reaffirmed that the feeding systems that only supplied forage (T2 and T3) are significantly inefficient (p0.05) in the various productive parameters between mixed and integral feeding, nor between the use of HGF and maize (chala). Therefore, the barley HGF can be used as a substitute for chala in mixed feeding systems for guinea pigs in the growth stage. It is necessary to consider the costs of alternative forage, the balance, and the value of the guinea pig in each stage of production and place of rearing, since the integral option was, in general, the one with the best technical and economic result
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Endozoochory by Goats and White-Tailed Deer: Type of Ruminant Affect Recovery and Germination of Neltuma pallida Seeds
The "algarrobo", Neltuma pallida is a key tree species in the seasonally dry tropical forests in Equatorial Pacific South America, currently at risk. Its regeneration depends on endozoochorous seed dispersal, in which seeds are ingested and later defecated by animals, helping to release and scarify them. This study compared the role of the native white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) and the introduced goat (Capra hircus) in seed dispersal. Seeds were recovered from the dung of both species after experimental feeding and from free-ranging goats grazing in fruiting N. pallida forests. Seed recovery was higher in deer dung (9.4%) than in goat dung (3.1%). Retention time was also shorter in deer (peak at 48 hours) than in goats (peak at 84 hours). Only deer scarification significantly improved germination percentage (Tukey test, p < 0.001) and germination speed (T25 = 8.98 days). Goats reduced germination speed under experimental conditions (T25 = 19.25 days), but slightly improved it under forest conditions (T25 = 12.81 days). These differences are attributed to the morphophysiological traits of each species. Although goats did not enhance overall germination, they maintained it at ~44% and contributed to seed dispersal and dormancy release.This research was funded by the Vice-Rectorate for Research of the National Agrarian University La Molina through a thesis grant competition, and the APC was funded by the Instituto Nacional de Innovación Agraria (INIA), through the research goat project (CUI Nº 2506684)
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more

We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
