Impact of road traffic tendency in Europe on fatigue assessment of bridges
Fatigue load models for road bridges given in the Eurocode EN1991-2 have been calibrated considering real traffic measurements that became available around 1990. Since then, traffic composition has evolved considerably, also considering the issuing of the 96/53/EC Directive, which legitimated member states, on an equal and not discriminatory basis, to allow the circulation of Long and Heavy Vehicles (LHVs). Thus, the appropriateness of fatigue load models to cover also the effects of these vehicles, which are longer, heavier and potentially more damaging than common Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs), became an issue. The aim of the study is to assess how the evolution of European traffic influences the fatigue assessment of bridges. To capture the essence of the problem, three different real traffic measurements are compared in terms of fatigue damage: the Auxerre (FR) traffic, adopted to define fatigue load models in EN1991-2; the Moerdijk (NL) traffic, characterized by a high percentage of LHVs; and the Igualada (ES) traffic. To assess the current relevance of fatigue load models LM2 and LM4 of EN1991-2, the aptitude of these models to adequately reproduce the effects caused by LHVs is discussed in detail. The results demonstrate that the Auxerre traffic is still the most onerous; that the Moerdijk traffic is generally more severe than the Igualada traffic, and that the fatigue load models of Eurocode do not require major updates. The study is further supplemented by investigating the suitability of the formulae provided in the Eurocodes for the damage equivalence factors λ2 and λ3 to express the influence of the total lorry volume on the fatigue damage. In that latter case, the conclusion is that the formulae proposed in the Eurocodes, based on the assumption of a linear fatigue strength S-N curve with constant conventional slope m, could lead to erroneous, even unsafe, estimates of the fatigue life, especially when details are characterized by constant amplitude fatigue limit DD, thus calling for further improvements of the formulae themselves
DD-Pose: A large-scale Driver Head Pose Benchmark
We introduce DD-Pose, the Daimler TU Delft Driver Head Pose Benchmark, a large-scale and diverse benchmark for image-based head pose estimation and driver analysis. It contains 330k measurements from multiple cameras acquired by an in-car setup during naturalistic drives. Large out-of-plane head rotations and occlusions are induced by complex driving scenarios, such as parking and driver-pedestrian interactions. Precise head pose annotations are obtained by a motion capture sensor and a novel calibration device. A high resolution stereo driver camera is supplemented by a camera capturing the driver cabin. Together with steering wheel and vehicle motion information, DD-Pose paves the way for holistic driver analysis. Our experiments show that the new dataset offers a broad distribution of head poses, comprising an order of magnitude more samples of rare poses than a comparable dataset. By an analysis of a state-of-the-art head pose estimation method, we demonstrate the challenges offered by the benchmark. The dataset and evaluation code are made freely available to academic and non-profit institutions for non-commercial benchmarking purposes
Assessing Clinical Features of Adolescents Suffering from Depression Who Engage in Non-Suicidal Self-Injury
Depressive disorders (DDs) and non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) are important juvenile mental health issues, showing alarming increasing rates. They frequently co-occur, mainly among adolescents, increasing the suicide risk. We aimed to compare the clinical features of two groups of adolescents with DDs, differed by their engagement or not in NSSI (“DD + NSSI” and “DD”). We hypothesized that NSSI would characterize particularly severe forms of DDs suitable for becoming specific phenotypes of adolescent depression. We enrolled 56 adolescents (11–17 years) diagnosed with a DD according to the DSM-5 criteria. They were assessed for NSSI endorsement (Ottawa Self-Injury Inventory), depressive symptoms (Children’s Depression Inventory 2), emotional dysregulation (Difficulties in Emotional Regulation Scale), and anxiety symptoms (Screen for Child Anxiety-Related Emotional Disorders). The two groups accounted for 31 (“DD + NSSI”) and 25 (“DD”) individuals. The “DD + NSSI” group had significantly higher suicidal ideation (p 0.0039), emotional dysregulation (p 0.0092), depressive symptoms (p 0.0138), and anxiety symptoms (p 0.0153) than the “DD” group. NSSI seemed to characterize more severe phenotypes of adolescent depression, applying for a potential role as a “specifier” of DDs, describing relevant information for their management. Further studies are needed to support this hypothesis and its potential opportunities for prevention and treatment

Evidence for B-0 -> D+D- and observation of B-->(DD-)-D-0 and B-->(DD*-)-D-0 decays
We report evidence for B-0 -> D+D- and the first observation of the decay modes B-->(DD-)-D-0 and B-->(DD*-)-D-0 based on a sample of 152x10(6) B (B) over bar events collected by the Belle detector at KEKB. The branching fractions for B-0 -> D+D-, B-->(DD-)-D-0, and B-->(DD*-)-D-0 are found to be (1.91 +/- 0.51 +/- 0.30)x10(-4), (4.83 +/- 0.78 +/- 0.58)x10(-4), and (4.57 +/- 0.71 +/- 0.56)x10(-4), respectively. Charge asymmetries in the B-->(DD-)-D-0 and B-->(DD*-)-D-0 channels are consistent with zero
The Influence of Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities (I/DD) Curriculum Content on Career Interests for Social Work Students
This study examines how curriculum content on Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities (I/DD) impacts the career interests of social work students. With the growing demand for social workers proficient in I/DD services, it is crucial to understand how educational experiences shape career choices. Using a QUANT→Qual mixed-method approach, this quasi-experimental pre/post-test survey combined quantitative data (N 66 [experimental group]; N =103 [control group] and open-ended survey questions (N = 66 [experimental group]; N =103 [control group] from social work students.
The author-constructed survey assessed student attitudes, perceptions, preparedness, ability to identify I/DD, knowledge of I/DD, and willingness to practice with individuals with I/DD before and after exposure to I/DD-focused curriculum content over a 15-week period. The quantitative findings indicated that exposure to I/DD-focused curriculum content significantly improved students’ preparedness, ability to identify I/DD, knowledge about I/DD, and willingness to work with this population. Qualitative findings indicated that students who completed the I/DD courses reported increased confidence and interest in pursuing careers involving I/DD roles. The study findings emphasize the importance of including dedicated I/DD content in social work education to better equip future practitioners
Comparison of magnetic couplers for IPT-based EV charging using multi-objective optimization
Inductive power transfer (IPT) is becoming increasingly popular in stationary electric vehicle (EV) charging systems. In this paper, the influence of the different IPT coupler geometries on the performance factors such as efficiency, power density, misalignment tolerance, and stray field is studied. Four different coupler topologies, namely the circular, rectangular, double-D (DD-DD), and the double-D transmitter with double-D-quadrature receiver (DD-DDQ) are considered in this study. The electromagnetic behavior of the couplers is modeled using three-dimensional finite-element method, which is validated by experiments on a laboratory prototype. A multi-objective optimization (MOO) framework is developed to analyze the Pareto tradeoffs between conflicting performance metrics for the couplers. Optimization results depict that the circular topology performs best among the selected topologies regarding higher coupling coefficient, and efficiency for similar active mass and coupler area. Circular and rectangular couplers perform better than the polarized couplers like DD-DD and DD-DDQ regarding stray field exposure in both vertical and lateral direction of the coupler position in the EV. However, polarized couplers show more tolerance toward misalignment compared to circular and rectangular couplers.
