No full textIncludes bibliographical references and index."Ever since Plato made the case for the primacy of ideas over names, philosophy has tended to elevate the primacy of its ideas over the more common understanding and insights that are circulated in the names drawn upon by the community. Commencing with a critique of Plato's original philosophical decision, Cristaudo takes up the argument put forward by Thomas Reid that modern philosophy has generally continued along the 'way of ideas' to its own detriment. His argument identifies the major paradigmatic developments in modern philosophy commencing from the new metaphysics pioneered by Descartes up until the analytic tradition and the anti-domination philosophies which now dominate social and political thought. Along the way he argues that the paradigmatic shifts and break-downs that have occurred in modern philosophy are due to being beholden to an inadequate sovereign idea, or small cluster of ideas, which contribute to the occlusion of important philosophical questions. In addition to chapters on Descartes, and the analytic tradition and anti-domination philosophies, his critical history of modern philosophy explores the core ideas of Locke, Berkeley, Malebranche, Locke, Hume, Reid, Kant, Fichte, Hegel, Schelling, Marx, Kierkegaard, Schopenhauer, Nietzsche, Husserl and Heidegger. The common thread uniting these disparate philosophies is what Cristaudo calls 'ideaism' (sic.). Rather than expanding our reasoning capacity, 'ideaism' contributes to philosophers imposing dictatorial principles or models that ultimately occlude and distort our understanding of our participative role within reality. Wayne Cristaudo argues that love is a materializing force, a force consisting of various distinctive qualities or spirits. He argues that we cannot understand Western civilization unless we realize that, within its philosophical and religious heritage, there is a deep and profound recognition of love's creative and redemptive power.
Cristaudo explores philosophical love (the love of wisdom) and the love of God and neighbor. The history of the West is equally a history of phantasmic versions of love and the thwarting of love. Thus, the history of our hells may be seen as the history of love's distortions and the repeated pseudo-victories of our preferences for the phantasms of love. Cristaudo argues that the catastrophes from our phantasmic loves threaten to extinguish us, forcing us repeatedly to open ourselves to new possibilities of love, to new spirits.

of the workforce, and of healthcare workers in particular, is increasing, resulting in a reduced work capacity. This
may prompt the occupational physician to issue fitness for work limitations. Objectives: To examine the health
surveillance data collected over 20 years on the employees of a large healthcare institution to identify the effects of the limitations imposed on their career paths. Methods: The database of health surveillance records gathered over the years was analysed using the same dedicated software. Fourteen types of limitations were classified via a “text mining” treatment. 3,653 subjects were selected, divided in two groups (A: with a limitation and B: without limitation) comprised of 655 and 2,998 subjects, respectively. The subjects were then ranked on the basis of departments and tasks involved. We also evaluated the number of departmental changes for each worker and the corresponding rate of change for the three groups A, B and B post-limitation. Results: Limitations have been increasing in parallel with the aging of workers, in particular those relating to Manual Load Handling/Posture (MLH/P). The limitations due to Allergy/Latex lasted longer, and in a greater proportion than MLH/P, particularly when compared to the limitation for Shift Work and those for “Other Limitations” that were shrinking faster. Conclusions: There is a clear relationship between certain types of limitations/prescriptions and workers’ ages. It is necessary to carry out an assessment of the association with the work performed in order to implement age management strategies aimed at maintaining work capacity in aging workers

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
