    Autodrop‐Enabled Aqueous Deposition of BiVO4–FePO4 Photoanodes for Stable Water Splitting

    Scalable and sustainable methods for fabricating stable photoelectrodes are essential for advancing solar-driven water splitting. Here, an automated aqueous deposition approach is demonstrated, which is named “Autodrop”, for the fabrication of BiVO4–FePO4 photoanodes via a modified successive ion layer adsorption and reaction (SILAR) process. The method enables precise control over film thickness and morphology using low-toxicity precursors and ambient conditions. The integration of an amorphous FePO4 layer on top of the BiVO4 photo-absorber serves as both a passivation coating and co-catalyst, resulting in a 50% photocurrent increase and excellent operational stability, with over 80% of the initial current retained after 2 h of continuous chronoamperometry under AM 1.5G illumination at 1.23 V versus RHE. These results establish Autodrop as a versatile platform for scalable, multi-layer photoelectrode fabrication, supporting the development of next-generation PEC devices

    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Systematic Investigation on the Surfactant‐Assisted Liquid‐Phase Exfoliation of MoS2 and WS2 in Water for Sustainable 2D Material Inks

    MoS2 and WS2 have gathered significant attention due to their tunable properties and wide range of applications. Liquid-phase exfoliation (LPE) is a facile method to prepare 2D MoS2 and WS2. Currently, the principally employed solvents for LPE of MoS2 and WS2 are expensive and toxic, and have high boiling points. These drawbacks encourage to find more sustainable alternatives to the liquid medium used for the preparation of 2D material inks. Water is the best option, but surfactants are necessary for LPE in water, since MoS2 and WS2 are hydrophobic. Organic molecules with amphoteric character such as sodium dodecyl sulfate, sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonate, and sodium hexadecyl sulfonate (SHS) are selected as suitable candidates for the role. However, the study of these surfactants used in LPE is barely systematically reported. In this work, a detailed investigation is presented on their impact on the LPE of MoS2 and WS2, which are representatives of transition-metal dichalcogenides. By characterizing and qualifying the products from average number of layers, it is found that all the surfactants work efficiently to exfoliate MoS2 and WS2 into few layers, and SHS stabilizes the 2D layers better than the other two. However, in terms of yield and relative surfactant concentration, a real trade-off is not identified between maximized quantity of exfoliated materials and minimized surfactant concentration, which prompts to select the colloidal ink based on the specific further needs for processing

    In situ growth of layered 1T-MoS2 onto carbon nanofibers as a strategy towards advanced hybrid materials for electrochemical energy storage and catalysis

    Supercapacitors for electrochemical energy storage and electrocatalysts for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) are pivotal in addressing global energy challenges. However, their widespread use is hindered by the limitations of the currently available functional materials. This study explores the in situ hydrothermal growth of 1T-phase MoS2 directly onto the surface of carbon nanofibers (CNFs), forming 3D hierarchical nanostructures with potential for both supercapacitor and HER applications. The effect of reaction time on the thickness of the 1T-MoS2 outer layer is systematically investigated, revealing a stepwise relationship between layer thickness and reaction time. The resulting 1T MoS2/CNFs hybrids, with varying MoS2 layer thicknesses, exhibit distinct specific capacitance behaviors under varying scan rates, due to differences in conductivity and ion diffusion distances. Post-electrochemical testing analysis reveals 1T-MoS2 inherent instability, which, rather than transitioning to the 2H-phase, predominantly oxidizes to form molybdenum oxides. Despite this limitation, the hybrids demonstrate promising performance in HER electrocatalysis, with thicker MoS2 layers offering more active sites, despite an unfavorable trade-off in conductivity. This study provides a mechanistic understanding of 1T-MoS2/CNFs nanohybrids in electrochemical applications, highlighting the interplay between MoS2 phase composition, thickness and electrochemical performance. Our findings underscore both the potential and challenges in optimizing these nanohybrids for enhanced energy storage and hydrogen evolution, paving the way for future advancements in multifunctional energy materials

    “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

    We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
