No full textThis is the introductory chapter of the book. This book explores the major historical phenomenon of the algebraization of mathematics in the second half of the 17th and 18th centuries, offering a
broader understanding of the consolidation of analytic geometry and infinitesimal calculus as disciplines. The authors examine the external (intellectual, geographical, and political) factors that influenced these transformations and shed light on the process of acquisition and integration of analytical mathematics into traditional curricula. Drawing on new trends in historiography of science, this book emphasizes the importance of "dwarfs", that is mathematicians but also technicians, artisans, military personnel, engineers, and architects, often ignored or marginalized in traditional histories, in the circulation of original mathematical knowledge, and of peripheral countries such as Italy and Spain as important sites for the appropriation and production of such knowledge

No full textIl libro illustra una “storia territoriale” che nel secolo scorso ha contrassegnato non solo lo sviluppo del distretto del Verbano Cusio Ossola, ma ha caratterizzato fortemente tutto il design italiano nel comparto del casalingo. Aziende come Alessi, Lagostina, Bialetti, Girmi, Calderoni, Piazza, La Nuova Faro hanno investito in ricerche per quegli anni avveniristiche e hanno tracciato nuove direzioni di sviluppo, costruendo delle storie “familiari” che sono poi entrate, con i loro prodotti, nelle famiglie di tutti. Il libro, focalizzato sul product design, sfocia spesso nel racconto di una dimensione domestica e d’interni, con frequenti rimandi al contesto sociale; gli oggetti diventano così testimoni di un’intera epoca, di cui restituiscono valori sociali, estetici e culturali. Con rigore scientifico e seguendo un’impostazione cronologica, l’autore ci conduce in quella dimensione immaginifica che ha reso l’affermazione di questo distretto un’avventura unica e pionieristica, una “piccola storia” che ha contribuito a rendere grande la Storia del design italiano

The absolute prominence of time is testified by important essays, first of all the historical Space, Time Architec- ture by Sigfried Giedion (1941), where he introduces the temporal component to read the Bauhaus revolution. Many years have passed since Gropius and his colleagues, and time has increasingly acquired a fundamental dimension, supplanting the space variable in interiors and architecture. An increasingly “relative” time (to steal Eiste- nian intuition) paradoxically transforms the temporary into the only constant of our lives. However, it is a category of thought and project which, in light of the environmental crisis we are experiencing, now requires urgent and new consideration.
The text, one of the first to systematically investigate the topic - considering its economic, social and productive, as well as environmental implications - offers a detailed reading of the Italian and European context, identifying some reference best practices that can be applicable to different dimensions planning. Analyzing the museum sector in a privileged way, but also opening the perspective to the trade fair, artistic and large events sector, the book therefore aims to provide new research trajectories, pilot projects, innovative governance and management models, in order to make the system’s actors fully aware of the issues at stake and equipped with new strategic and operational tools

No full textL’effimero e con esso la sua variabile tempo, sono il grande paradigma con il quale rileggere la disciplina del progetto contemporaneo. L’assoluto protagonismo del tempo è testimoniato da importanti saggi, in primis lo storico Spazio, tempo architettura di Sigfried Giedion (1941), dove per riuscire a interpretare la rivoluzione della Bauhaus si introduce proprio la componente temporale per dare lettura dello spazio. Da Gropius e colleghi sono passati molti anni e il Tempo ha acquistato sempre più una dimensione fondamentale andando a soppiantare lo variabile spazio negli interni e nelle architetture. Un tempo sempre più “relativo” (per rubare l’intuizione Einsteiniana) che trasforma paradossalmente il temporaneo nell’unica constante delle nostre vite. No full textEl objetivo de este trabajo es explorar el significado histórico y filosófico de las investigaciones axiomáticas de Hilbert sobre problemas de construcción geométrica en Fundamentos de la geometría (1899). En particular, nos ocuparemos de analizar el significado de estas investigaciones considerándolas desde la perspectiva del programa geométrico esbozado por Descartes en La Géométrie (1637), cuyo objetivo central consistía en ofrecer una clasificación de problemas geométricos de acuerdo con los medios más simples para su resolución. But this book is far more than a catalog: it is an essay on the state of the art of relationship between design and industry 4.0, the world of makers and fablabs. The unprecedented exhibition model, which ironically combines a “pop up hostel” and a “inhabited exhibition”, introduces a reflections on new models of hospitality and exhibition. All this takes place in a nascent innovation district. It was therefore necessary to reflect on what “innovation” means today. The red thread running through the pages leads us to think about the potentialities of the contamination between analog and digital. This book, produced both analogically and digitally, is just a small demonstration of the potential of this relationship
