The object of the report was to elucidate in detail the various features of the research program in meteorology being carried on at the Daniel Guggenheim Airship Institute in Akron, Ohio. Mr. L. J. Fangman, of the U.S. Weather Bureau, was collaborating with the author in carrying out work such as a study of autographic records of the various meteorological elements during frontal passages with a view to the possible prediction of the intensity of the accompanying disturbance as it may affect the operation of aircraft and a study of atmospheric gustiness with a view to finding the dependence between frequency end amplitude of velocity fluctuations and the vertical temperature and velocity gradients

(Fourth) Report on Meteorological Activities at the DGAI (8-1-36)(Weather Bureau Copy)

    No full text
This report is on the investigations of frontal phenomena at the Daniel Guggenheim Airship Institute in Akron, Ohio from January 1, 1935 through August 1, 1936. The investigation was carried out with the cooperation of the U.S. Bureau of Aeronautics, the U.S. Weather Bureau, the California Institute of Technology, and the Guggenheim Airship Institute. Mr. R.C. Robinson of the Weather Bureau cooperated with the author in carrying out the investigation. The object of the investigation was to determine the intensity of the atmospheric disturbances (i.e. rapidity of wind shift and gustiness) accompanying the passage of cold fronts, along with a study of the characteristics of the air masses involved and other features which might affect the intensity of the disturbance. The report treated thirty cold fronts which passed the station during 1935 to 1936

De la hiérohistoire : portrait de Henry Corbin

The work and thought of Henry Corbin are still largely unknown, because no overall work has sought to bring out historically his own philosophical thought. The first part is an exploration of some commentators of Corbin’s work. After some remarks on Daryush Shayegan and Tom Cheetham, our exploration of the reviews of Peter Lamborn Wilson (Hakim Bey) shows that spiritual anarchism is perhaps the only political thought applicable to Corbin. Then, by analyzing the work of Christian Jambet, it is possible to understand how his philosophical legacy was transmitted and why there is no “corbinian school”. Finally, this first part concludes with a critique of Steven Wasserstrom’s fascistic insinuations. The reader is then led to read the first complete portrait of Henry Corbin. Through extensive archival and bibliographic work, it was possible to contextualize chronologically the different stages of his life. From his childhood to his academic training, we dive into the thirties where we discover a orientalist-librarian versed in dialectical theology and German philosophy. Then, it is the oriental adventure that begins with his stay in Istanbul and Tehran. In 1946, he founded the department of iranology in Teheran and succeeded Louis Massignon in 1954. Finally, it is the role of Eranos Circle and its relations with Carl Gustav Jung, Mircea Eliade and Gilbert Durand that are analyzed. The portrait concludes with a reflection on the meaning of his spiritual chivalrous commitment and an exploration of musical notions in his metaphysics. The last part is concerned with the actuality of the corbinian thought, wondering how the philosophical reflections of his time were able to influence his thought and what could be its meaning in the present world. The debates around the notion of Christian philosophy are thus examined in order to put into perspective his notion of Islamic philosophy. Spiritual realism then makes it possible to situate his conception of divino-humanity in relation to his docetism and reveals the structure of his theophanic ontology. Hence the spiritual hermeneutics constructed around the significatio passiva opens up to its spiritual comparativism thematized here by an examination of the spissitudo spiritualis and its references to the Cambridge Platonists.L’œuvre et la pensée de Henry Corbin sont encore largement méconnues, car jusqu’ici aucun travail d’ensemble n’avait cherché à faire ressortir sa pensée philosophique propre tout en la contextualisant historiquement.
