Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Full text linkThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Full text link“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Full text linkWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Impression Materials: A Comparison Of Their Biological Characteristics
No full textThe aim of this study was to assess the cytotoxicity of two types of impression dental materials: polyethers (Impregum Penta, Permadyne Penta Heavy and Light) and vinyl polysiloxanes (Elite Mono Tray, Medium, Low viscosity and Elite H-D Putty). Their cytotoxic effects were studied by indirect and direct tests. The indirect tests were performed by incubating impression materials in serum free cell culture medium to prepare the soluble extracts. Balb/c 3T3 cells were incubated with extract dilutions (25, 50, 75 and 100%) for 24 h. The extracts of polyether materials caused a decrease of cellular viability, evaluated by light microscopy, by cell counting and by MTT test. The extracts of vinyl polysiloxanes materials induced a slight effect on cellular number and viability. The direct tests were performed by placing the impression materials in the centre of Petri dishes while Balb/c 3T3 were settling. The cellular proliferation was drastically reduced by polyethers and it was unaffected by the presence of vinyl polysiloxanes. These results show that: (a) the polyether materials are more toxic than vinyl polysiloxanes in our experimental conditions, (b) the impression materials are cytotoxic to the same degree in all assay methods

No full textCon il termine di “nitrurazione” si indicano genericamente una serie di procedimenti tecnici che permettono di ottenere un sottilissimo film di Nitruri su metalli e leghe diverse, tra cui anche le leghe di Cromo-Cobalto o di Titanio utilizzate comunemente in odontoiatria. Tali procedimenti comprendono la Physical Vapour Deposition (PVD), la Chemical Vapour Deposition (CVD), la Nitrurazione tradizionale, la Nitrurazione Ionica e I’Impiantazione Ionica.In campo medico, la valutazione della biocompatibilità e delle proprietà fisiche, chimiche e meccaniche di questi rivestimenti è in gran parte legata agli studi compiuti nell’ambito di altre specializzazioni, in modo particolare in ortopedia, dove sono utilizzati per rivestire le superfici articolari nelle protesi d’anca e di ginocchio, ed in cardiochirurgia, nella quale il Nitruro di Titanio è usato per rivestire le protesi valvolari.Nelle applicazioni odontoiatriche, la deposizione di un sottile film di Nitruro di Titanio si pone l’obiettivo di migliorare le caratteristiche meccaniche di superficie della protesi (durezza, resistenza all’usura, alla scalfittura ed alla corrosione), di migliorarne la biocompatibilità, di risolvere i problemi legati alla corrosione delle leghe normalmente utilizzate e di eliminare i fenomeni di bimetallismo, soprattutto nel caso di protesi su impianti.Questi sottili film ceramici, inoltre, applicati su Titanio permettono di ottenere uno strato superficiale che, oltre alle eccellenti proprietà fisiche e meccaniche, garantisce anche una bassa adesività batterica, favorevole ad un ottimale mantenimento igienico della protes

No full textIn this article possible applications of mini-dental implants for removable and fixed prosthetic treatments are shown together with their characteristics, advantages and limitations. Many clinical cases of fixed, removable and mixed prosthesis both in the lower and upper jaw are reported. The use of mini implants as temporary and definitive abutment is shown. The mini implants may be inserted by a standard surgical approach (muco-periostal incision and flap opening) or by a "transmucosal approach", without any incision. Their main indication is between mental foramina by transmucosal approach where 4 mini implants may be inserted. Easiness, flexibility and low cost should convince the clinician about the strategic importance of mini implants

Attori e personaggi dello spettacolo contribuiscono, poi, a rendere nota la reale possibilità di ottenere un sorriso bianchissimo quale modello estetico di riferimento.Il trattamento cosmetico trova indicazione nel caso di sbiancamento di denti sani e in caso di denti discromici (per la presenza di vecchi restauri, discromie da tetraciclina, fluorosi, macchie di natura esogena, effetti del tabagismo, materiali da otturazione canalare)1.L’odontoiatria, quindi, tende a soddisfare le richieste del paziente trasformando il concetto di terapia del bisogno in trattamento del desiderio.Scopo del presente articolo è la sperimentazione in vivo, su un campione di dieci soggetti di un recente prodotto per sbiancamento ambulatoriale valutando l’efficacia del trattamento mediante analisi allo spettrofotometro.La tinta, il croma e il valore degli elementi frontali superiori (da canino a canino) sono stati valutati prima di iniziare il trattamento e dopo nove mesi al fine di verificare il mantenimento del colore raggiunto
