Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Get PDFO protagonismo de tribunais e de outras instituições judiciais, as mudanças nos métodos de trabalho dos juristas e os processos de mobilização do direito são parte incontornável da política contemporânea. As mudanças foram acolhidas como o despertar do “terceiro gigante” ou como a emergência de uma nova era das instituições representativas, na qual se daria uma dinâmica positiva para o escopo e a efetividade dos direitos nas democracias constitucionais. Outros, mais céticos, apontaram os interesses corporativos de juristas, ou a sua associação com forças políticas e sociais como a base explicativa das mudanças. Mas, como têm apontado as pesquisas, o processo apresenta inegável variedade empírica, nos diversos contextos nacionais, no interior de cada Estado, em diferentes domínios, ao longo do tempo ou em função de configurações de forças postas em conjunturas específicas. Como resultado, as bases teóricas e metodológicas para a pesquisa de ciência política sobre os tribunais, os juristas e o direito permanecem dispersas, fluidas e contestadas, o que se apresenta de forma muito clara nos trabalhos na área sobre o nosso país.

Desestabilização da democracia constitucional e políticas de direitos no mandato de Jair Bolsonaro (2019-2022)
No full textThe article analyzes the destabilization of Brazilian constitutional democracy during the mandate of Jair Bolsonaro and its significance for rights policies. It approaches the theme using the concepts of constitutional order and constitutional regime. It presents presidential performance as a staging of the grotesque of democracy, producing political instability through the disruption of normative foundations, the legal system, as well as the domain of the reality of the 1988 constitutional order, seeking to pave the way for a post-constitutional situation. Although the constitutional order was not overthrown by the Bolsonaro mandate, it reconfigured the neoliberal democratic constitutional regime with regard to the relations between State powers, electoral practices and development policies. The central focus of the analysis is on the effects of these changes on rights policies conducted to deflate agents' identities as citizens, undermining the institutional supports of their rights and promoting forms of subjectivation receptive to reactionary discourse and neoconservative policies. The research is based on bibliographic, documentary and media sources. However, the analysis is constructed mainly from the authors' discussions and reflections on their experience as protagonists and witnesses of their time.En este artículo analizamos la desestabilización de la democracia constitucional brasileña durante el mandato de Jair Bolsonaro y sus implicaciones para las políticas de derechos. Se aborda el tema desde los conceptos de orden constitucional y régimen constitucional. La actuación presidencial se presenta como una puesta en escena de lo grotesco de la democracia, produciendo inestabilidad política a través de la ruptura de los fundamentos normativos, el sistema jurídico y el dominio de la realidad del orden constitucional de 1988, con el fin de promover la transición hacia un régimen posconstitucional. situación . Si bien el orden constitucional no fue superado, con el mandato de Bolsonaro el régimen constitucional democrático neoliberal sufrió reconfiguraciones en las relaciones entre los poderes del Estado, en las prácticas electorales y en las políticas de desarrollo. El análisis tiene como foco central los efectos de estos cambios en las políticas de derechos en el sentido de vaciar la identidad de los agentes como ciudadanos, precarizar el apoyo institucional al ejercicio de sus derechos y promover formas de subjetivación receptivas al discurso reaccionario y a las políticas neoconservadoras. La investigación se basó en una revisión de fuentes bibliográficas, documentales y mediáticas, pero se sustenta principalmente en las discusiones y reflexiones de los autores sobre su experiencia como protagonistas de su tiempo.Neste artigo, analisa-se a desestabilização da democracia constitucional brasileira durante o mandato de Jair Bolsonaro e suas implicações para as políticas de direitos. Aborda-se o tema a partir dos conceitos de ordem constitucional e regime constitucional. Apresenta-se a atuação presidencial enquanto encenação do grotesco da democracia, produzindo instabilidade política por meio da desestruturação dos fundamentos normativos, do ordenamento jurídico e do domínio de realidade da ordem constitucional de 1988, de modo a promover a passagem a uma situação pós-constitucional. Ainda que não tenha havido a superação da ordem constitucional, com o mandato de Bolsonaro, o regime constitucional neoliberal democrático sofreu reconfigurações nas relações entre os poderes do Estado, nas práticas eleitorais e nas políticas de desenvolvimento. A análise tem como foco central os efeitos dessas mudanças para as políticas de direitos no sentido de esvaziarem a identidade dos agentes como cidadãos, precarizando os apoios institucionais ao exercício de seus direitos e promovendo formas de subjetivação receptivas ao discurso reacionário e às políticas neoconservadoras. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more

No full textWe have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
