    Aggressività in Larus Cachinnans

    No full text

I certainly did appreciate and I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. Army Life is still about the same as ever for me. My job deals with appropriation of funds and it is quite interesting. It is surprising how the accounting knowledge I picked up at Bryant helps me now. Most of my spare time is spent in playing softball. I am on the base softball team and this certainly takes most of my leisure hours. It is quite warm down here now and I have acquired a good tan by going down to the beach. I wish to thank you again for the package you sent me. Bryant certainly never forgets their graduates. Sincerely yours, Carlo Conte Class of ‘40 [Transcription ends

Berkeley Nov 10th My dear Mrs. Muir; The box of beautiful grapes arrived in fine condition, and I can assure you we have all enjoyed them, and appreciate your thoughtfulness in sending them. Probably you have enjoyed fruit fresh from vine and tree so long that you have forgotten what a vast difference there is between that and store fruit! Please remember me kindly to Helen, I hope she has entirely recovered from her severe illness. Such a siege as she passed through however takes a long time to rally from. Again thanking you I am very sincerely yours Mary H. Le Conte 2301 Piedmont Ave

Stem cell protection mechanisms in planarians: the role of some heat shock genes

    No full text
Planarians contain a large population of stem cells, named neoblasts, and use these for continuous turnover of all cell types. In addition, thanks to the amazing flexibility of these cells, planarians respond well to the effects of stressful situations, for example activating regeneration after trauma. How neoblasts respond to stress and support continuous proliferation, maintaining long-term stability, is still an open question. Heat shock proteins (HSPs) are a complex protein family with key roles in maintaining protein homeostasis, as well as in apoptosis and growth-related processes. We recently characterized some planarian homologs of hsp genes that are highly expressed in mammalian stem cells, and observed that some of them are critical for neoblast survival/maintenance. The results of these studies support the notion that some HSPs play crucial roles in the modulation of pathways regulating stem cell activity, regeneration and tissue repair. In this review we compare the evidence available for planarian hsp genes and focus on questions emerging from these results

[Transcription begins] March 23, 1943 To the Bryant Service Club: The other day I received your most enlightning [sic] letter and I wish to thank you very much for it. There is really no other event I look forward to more than receiving letters for it brings back sweet memories to me. Since I have been in the Army I have been very lucky for I have seen Miami Beach, Florida and from there I was sent to Los Angeles, California for training in the Administrative and Technical School. There I studied to be an Engineering and Operations Clerk which deals mainly in forms and the preparation of them for planes and their flights. It is really most interesting and I only hope that I can continue in this type of work. After Los Angeles I was shipped to the Army Air Base at Colorado Springs, Colorado where I was put through thirty days of overseas training which every one who comes on this field must go through. My thirty days has just ended and now I am in the 11th Photographic Mapping Squadron for additional training in my type of work. However, so far they have me in the supply department, but this is only temporary as we are waiting for our Line Passes so that we can go on the field and work in either the Engine ring or the Operations offices. I believe that by the end of next week I will be stationed in the office where I shall get trained for the type of work I shall do. Receiving your letters brought back many of the events that happened to me during the years 1938-1940 and started me thinking about the many friends I had made during the time I spent there. It really was the best two years of my life, and I shall never forget the good times I had there. I only hope that some day I will be able to get near enough to Providence so that I will be able to come in and say hello to all of you. I must at this time convey my best wishes to Prof. Shors and Prof. Lee for their commissions in the armed forces. I am sure they will go just as far in their new endeavor as they did as professors. I had both of them and they did much in getting over to me the complicated subject of Accounting. Also, I wish to send my regards to all the other professors that I had at the time I was in Bryant and hope they have continued success in whatever they are doing. Well, I guess I must end this letter now as work never stops in the Army. However before I do I wish to say that the Bryant Service Club is one of the best organizations I have found since I have been in the Army, and congratulations are really in order for all you have done and will do. Conte-me sua história...: narrativas visuais sobre mulheres artistas independentes

    No full text
Motivated by the desire to use Visual Design at the service of making multiple narratives visible about being an independent woman artist nowadays, Conte-me sua história was born, a long-term personal project that aims to be a series of visual narratives in animation, telling the stories of these women. The present investigation is the development of the pilot project for this series, with the aim of experimenting with a methodology for co-creating this visual narrative in partnership with the artist herself, in response to the need to have more and more stories of women artists told by women, narrated in first person. In addition to the production of the “object” (visual narrative in animation), it was understood that the process of revisiting her trajectory to elaborate this narrative would provide the artist with an opportunity to reframe herself, thus being a possible tool for personal empowerment. With this experience, it was possible to identify in what ways this co-creative biographical methodology can contribute to the development and production of the visual narrative in question, in addition to evaluating the use of each of the tools used in this journey and identifying possible improvements to be implemented. in the process as a whole. Thus, it was possible to conclude that the methodology is adequate for the development of Conte-me sua história serie, considering the visual narratives as an instrument of personal contact and making these stories visible
