OPTIMIZING PROJECT TIME-COST-QUALITY BY USING GENETIC ALGORITHMS
Project management causes the problem of efficient resource assignment, activity, time constraints and relationships between activities. Traditional scheduling methods like CPM and PERT are incomplete tools to use in practice because they do not consider constraints regarding resources and cannot be realistic as they consider infinite resources. Optimization of project time-costs-quality is very complex and can be achieved by using meta-heuristic methods as Genetic Algorithms, Ant Algorithm, Tabu Search. In this article we study the state of the art in this domain, define the optimization problem we want to solve and propose some improvements for a genetic algorithm, starting from GENOCOP I (Genetic Algorithm for Numerical Optimizations of Constrained Problems) developed by Michalewicz and Janikow[12], later improved to GENOCOP V (Suzuki [9]).planning and scheduling, time-costs trade-off problem, genetic algorithms
Competence Development in IT Projects through Education and Training Programmes
The paper refers to the quality of training and education on IT project management. A survey was made and the main results are presented. 81 % of the responses came from China. The rest were professionals of different EU nationalities. The percentage of Project Managers who answered the questions is rather low – 8%. In the “Others” category, we have software developers, financial managers and professors, who are involved in both training on project management, but also as team members or team managers in IT and research projects, thus ensuring a balanced overview of both theory and practical issues.quality; IT Project management; training and education; project manager; competence.
Evaluation of the Project Management Competences Based on the Semantic Networks
The paper presents the testing and evaluation facilities of the SinPers system. The SinPers is a web based learning environment in project management, capable of building and conducting a complete and personalized training cycle, from the definition of the learning objectives to the assessment of the learning results for each learner. The testing and evaluation facilities of SinPers system are based on the ontological approach. The educational ontology is mapped on a semantic network. Further, the semantic network is projected into a concept space graph. The semantic computability of the concept space graph is used to design the tests. The paper focuses on the applicability of the system in the certification, for the knowledge assessment, related to each element of competence. Inter-Organizational Co-Creation: An Approach to Support Energy Transition Projects
Societal challenges such as climate change and inefficiency of energysystems more and more crave for a sustainable environment. Research proved thatrestructuring energy systems into more sustainable forms, called “Energy Transition”, has faced challenges. How to deal with these challenges requires the cocreation between various actors with multiple disciplines, expertise, and perspectivesfrom different organizations. The research question to be answered here is whetherco-creation helps the interaction between different actors in an inter-organizationalproject for the sake of better project results. By doing case study research in theNetherlands, an example of co-creation project in its front-end phase was investigatedregarding the interaction among different actors involved in the project. The researchrevealed that in the case of a co-creation project the multiple actors collaborate acrossorganizational boundaries in order to unite. This leads to a better solution-findingapproach. Openness, trust and respect are valued more in co-creation. Moreover,the project team is better integrated to work towards a shared interest which aresocial benefits. The co-creation facilitated the data-sharing among the key actorsin the project which traditionally is influenced highly by the mother-organizations’culture. Factors Affecting the Integration of Sustainability in the Early Project Phases in an Integrated Project Management Model
This study investigates the factors affecting the integration of sustainability into the project management of infrastructure projects, specifically highway projects during early phases. The research was drawn upon previous studies in order to develop a sustainability framework for measuring the project success in three aspects of sustainability: People, Planet, and Prosperity (triple bottom line). Next, Critical Success Factor (CSF) framework in the construction sector was extracted through a comprehensive literature review. A qualitative cross-case analysis was conducted on three sustainability-oriented highways projects in the Netherlands. Data were collected through document review and twelve in-depth interviews with different roles of Integrated Project Management (IPM) model. The findings suggest that each IPM role is inclined towards specific sustainability dimension which affects the application of sustainability CSFs. The results reveal that among the sixteen identified CSFs promoting the integration of sustainability, following factors were acknowledged by all the IPM roles: awareness of project external factors, clearly defined scope, clearly defined goals/ambitions. Further, the paper conceptualizes a model for integrating key roles involved in the project management of infrastructure projects. A Training Software Platform for the Research Projects Evaluation
The paper presents a training software platform which can be used by the evaluators for learning how to perform the research project evaluation and how to document the whole process, writing consistent comments. For the moment, the platform is ready for use on the proposals evaluation phase, but it can be easier extended in order to also cover the interim and the final evaluations of the research projects.services; goods; industrial society; knowledge-based society.
CONTRIBUTIONS TO MULTI-AGENT SYSTEMS IMPLEMENTATION FOR PROJECT SCHEDULING
Increasing project complexity makes scheduling problems more difficult to solve and requires more versatile algorithms. Two different approaches for the project scheduling optimization could be considered: TCPSP (Time-Constrained Project Scheduling), and RCPSP (Resource-Constrained Project Scheduling). In this paper we study thepossibility to apply Multi-Agent Systems (MAS) for these scheduling problems regarding different fitness functions. Sustainable Project-oriented Careers: A Conceptual Model
An area of interest for project participants is career management. Some active network to find their next consulting engagement, upskill or prepare for major life changes (e.g. marriage or promotion). We find in the literature improved results for those who pursue a sustainable career path. We examine sustainable project-oriented careers and offer error messages that indicate career turbulence such as infrequent upskilling. The sustainable project-oriented career model is reviewed within the context of the Gig Economy where significant turbulence exists (e.g. COVID-19 pandemic) with the mediating role of training and continuing education. We conclude with an overview of innovations in post secondary education that facilitate a sustainable project-oriented career. We bring together evolving career sustainability concepts within the project environment and provide guidance for developing a sustainable project-oriented career, especially important in our current tempestuous times
Assessment, Review, and Evaluation of the Project Management Education and Training Portfolio
the paper presents a portfolio approach that facilitates strategic planning for education programs and trainings, and guides the operational activities. The portfolio approach assure a holistic view of all education programs, and trainings delivered by the organizer, assuring that all education programs are aligned with the strategy and the selection and assessment of the new and ongoing education investments are made properly. The roles and responsibilities, and other organizational issues related to the portfolio management are presented. An important part of the paper deals with the education programmes evaluation. The paper address this issue using a case study developed for the Academy of Economic Studies is finally discussed
KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT IN HIGHER EDUCATION – AN ONTOLOGICAL APPROACH IN COLLABORATIVE ENVIRONMENTS
The paper presents an ontology-based knowledge management system developed for a Romanian university. The university used a classic Management Information System (MIS), which was the starting point for developing the knowledge management system. The developed knowledge management system has a general ontology, containing terms which are valid for a public institution, and specific ontology for two process categories, didactic and research process.
