i-ReSISTANT: Intelligent Research Assistance System
Time management is a crucial for researchers to accomplish their researches. Unorganized and inappropriate information may lead researchers to spend more effort to make a correct decision. In this thesis, we design a system called i-ReSISTANT that adopt the I-centric concept for providing intelligent research assistance services. Moreover, we introduce an approach to enhance the recommendation performance by utilizing the user’s context. This approach is aimed to deliver more personalized and adapted services such as Call-For-Papers (CFP) recommendation. Furthermore, to provide assistance in traveling for conference attendees, our system provides Open API to establish the open market. Open market is the market that has the equal opportunity of entry for service providers. The main purpose of open market is to establish the competition between service providers, which can improve the quality of the service that is offered to users. We developed i-ReSISTANT prototype that uses the latest HTML5 technology and reuses the available information and services on Internet from Google, Facebook and Yahoo. It leverages Ajax technology to provide the lightweight platform that can be run in browser supported devices. Furthermore, we investigate different programming styles in order to enhance the data process in the Web SQL database. The prototype extensively use cloud services, which make it efficient and low cost for providing intelligent research assistance services
People’s fighters” from Nowy Port
In connection with the 10 th anniversary of creating PPR (Polish Workers’
Party), falling in 1952, various celebrations were organized throughout Poland. One
of the standing items of the anniversary program was the unveiling of memorial
plaques, dedicated to the members of PPR who died during “the consolidation
of the people’s power”. Similar celebrations also took place in Gdańsk, where
on 23 February 1952 on Freedom Square in Nowy Port a memorial plaque was
set, dedicated to three members of PPR: Jan Łodo, Kazimierz Łowczyński and
Karol Gronkiewicz, who – according to communist propaganda – died “fighting
with fascist gangs from NSZ”. Moreover, the National Council of Gdańsk adopted
a resolution on naming three streets in Nowy Port with their names.
Due to the fact that there remains very little information concerning the above
persons and part of the information is inaccurate, the author of this article
decided to determine the true identity of the communist party members honored in
such a specific way and find out whether they really died at the hands of soldiers
of the underground movement, which was implied in the inscription on the plaque
unveiled in Nowy Port.
As a result of tedious research, the author managed to determine detailed
personal data of the above-mentioned members of PPR, follow the paths of their
professional careers and type of political activity, as well as discover the cause and
circumstances of their deaths. This revealed the dissonance between the popular
propaganda version and the reality, which in turn exposed the heroes from Gdańsk
fighting for “the consolidation of the people’s power” and revealed the
mechanisms of creating a new communist pantheon
Nowy genotyp grochu pastewnego
W wyniku krzyżowania i selekcji otrzymano nowy genotyp trój strąkowego grochu pastewnego w typie zielonkowo-nasiennym. Niniejszą pracę poświęcono pamięci Profesora Zygmunta Tomaszewskiego - autora odmiany Karo.Multipodding of pea (3 or 4 pods per stipule) is heritable and determined by two recessive genes. By crossing Karo x Souchet cultivars and selection of some hybrids, a new three-podded genotype of fodder pea was obtained. This report is in commemoration of Professor Zygmunt Tomaszewski - the author of Karo cultivar

The Jewish Inhabitants of Nowy Targ and their Holocaust
Następnie czytamy o żydowskich robotnikach przymusowych zatrudnionych w okolicznych obozach pracy należących do firmy Hobag i przedstawione są realia życia w miasteczku Judenrein. Artykuł zamyka opis powojennych powrotów Ocalałych, dokonanych na nich mordów i końca żydowskiej obecności w Nowym Targu. The article presents the stories of Jewish inhabitans of Nowy Targ under German occupation. Nowy Targ is a relatively small Polish-Jewish town in Polish Podhale (South of Poland). Their fate is reconstructed based on diverse historical sources, administrative documents as well as personal evidence. With the events of the entire Nowy Targ community in context, stories of a few families have been chosen to illustrate the individual dimension of the Holocaust. The article begins with a descripton of selected families; next, the author focuses on events from the period of indirect extermination which included economic repression, ghettoisation and social exclusion of Nowy Targ Jewry. The following part concerns the actual Holocaust (extermination) with special attention paid to the stories of individual people – the first executions and deportations in June 1942 as well as the events from August 30, 1942 when several hundred people were shot at the Nowy Targ cemetery while the remaining Jews were deported to Bełżec. Next, one reads about Jewish forced laborers employed in local work camps belonging to Hobag company and the reality of life in the town of Judenrein is presented. The article closes with a description of some after-war returns of the Survivors, the murders perpetrated on them and the end of the Jewish presence in Nowy Targ
"Nowy Dziennik" and the Polish Emigration in USA
The article contains a versatile characterization of the newspaper "Nowy Dziennik". The author has been its editor since 1970. He presents the origin of the daily, its aims, its particular columns devoted to various subjects, sources of information, the network of correspondents throughout the world, and the ideological orientation which is not limited to 013e party s program. The opinions prevailing in J. Piłsudski’s and R. Dmowski’s camps as well as those of socialists and the peasants party are presented. This corresponds with the present political preferences among Polish emigrants. The newspaper sets itself the goal of fighting for a proper place for the Polish ethnic group in the American social and political life. News from Poland constitute a considerable par of the daily s contents and one of its important functions is the one of educating and mobilizing Polish emigrants. It is especially important now, that Polish parishes tend to disappear. The mobilizing function is expressed in supporting relief action for Poland, and the educational one in pointing to the tasks facing the Polish community.
At present "Nowy Dziennik" is Polish biggest daily in USA. It has twelve pages /on Sundays - twenty-four/ and a circulation of 20 thousand copies /on special occasions up to 25 thousand/. The circulation is not very big compared with the number of Polish emigrants in USA, but this is due to the processes going on in the Polish community. "Nowy Dziennik" also runs its own mailorder book-shop and its own publishing office which publishes books concerned with Poland and her problems.
The same staff also edits the English-language menthly entitled "New Horizon - Polish American Review", designed for the Polish American intelligentsia. "Nowy Dziennik" is financially independent
Tajemnica koguta z „Od Nowy”
The graphic symbol (logo) of Toruń’s students’ club ‘Od Nowa’, in the form of a stylised rooster with the club’s name inscribed in its tail, first appeared on invitations, entry cards and club programmes at the turn of the 1960s/70s. The ‘Od Nowa’ rooster is, however, not only a graphic symbol with over 50 years of tradition, but above all a witness to the continuity of cultural activity of many years of students of the Toruń University, especially at a time when student culture was the only significant, bold and creative alternative to the mass culture promoted, imposed and censored by the communist authorities. Who was the author of the ‘Od Nowa’ logo? There is no clear answer to this question.
The Jewish Quarter in Nowy Wiśnicz
The former Jewish quarter (16th to 20th century) of Nowy Wiśnicz (henceforth: Wiśnicz, Yid. ווישניצא Vischnitsa) has so far only been mentioned on a few occasions and with little precision, in the books by Stanisław Fischer (1927/28), Mieczysław Książek (1976, 1979, 1988, 1990), and Adam Bartosz (1992). The last decades saw a handful of publications regarding this subject. The first one to touch upon it was Iwona Zawidzka, who described the cemetery and gave a brief account of the town’s history. She was followed by Elżbieta Ostrowska, who focused on relations between Christian and Jewish inhabitants of the town from the 17th to the 19th centuries. Adam Bartosz, Stanisław Fischer, Mieczysław Książek and Iwona Zawidzka incorrectly ascribed the lack of any photographic record of both synagogues and the public buildings to having been demolished by Germans during the Nazi occupation. I. Zawidzka1 mentions an essay by Julia Goczałkowska2 in which the author describes what she refers to as the Wiśnicz “Jerusalem.
