Abstract
47,XXY chromosome complement is relatively frequent (1/750-1000 male newborns) but has so far not been reported in association with malformative syndromes. Three cases of 47,XXY karyotype associated with an unrelated malformative pattern, the Silver-Russell syndrome in two cases and Noonan syndrome in one case are reported. The possibility of a phenotypic alteration of patients with the XXY karyotype by these malformative syndromes is considered

Full text linkThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

No full textPer quali ragioni in alcuni paesi europei, in particolare in quelli dell’Europa meridionale tra cui l’Italia, è cresciuta la domanda di lavoro domestico? Per quale ragione questa crescita ha riguardato in modo par- ticolare il lavoro domestico co-residente, piuttosto che quello a ore, ovvero ha riguardato quella forma specifica di lavoro domestico considerata un residuo preindustriale? Che tipo di relazioni si instaurano tra datore di lavoro e dipendente nel lavoro domestico coresidente? Come spiegare i cambiamenti, rapidissimi e apparentemente strutturali, nella composizione nazionale dei lavoratori domestici, ovvero perché sempre di più essi sono stranieri, non solo in Italia, ma in tutte le grandi città del- l’Europa, degli Stati Uniti e del Canada – ma anche dei paesi del Golfo? E, infine, perché i paesi di arrivo sembrano interessati non solo a definire condizioni giuridiche e sociali particolari, discriminatorie per la precisione, per tali lavoratori al fine di mantenerli in uno stato di precarietà e segregazione occupazionale permanente? Ma perché sembrano anche interessati a negare che essi sono, oltre che forza lavoro, anche uomini e donne, madri o padri, figli o figlie, mariti o mogli, filippini o eritrei, interessati a prendere la cittadinanza o intenzionati a rientrare al più presto al proprio paese di provenienza? L'articolo analizza e ricostruisce i risultati delle ricerche internazionali più importanti e recenti che hanno cercato di rispondere a questi interrogativi

Full text linkThe COVID-19 pandemic and the disordered reactions of most governments made the importance of mathematical modelling and model-based predictions evident, even outside the scientific community. The basic reproduction number quickly entered the common jargon, as a concise but effective tool to communicate the spreading power of a disease and estimate, at least roughly, the possible outcomes of the epidemic. However, while is easily defined for simple models, its proper definition is more subtle for larger, state-of-the-art models. Here we show that it is nothing else than the spectral radius of the gain matrix of a linear system, and that this matrix generalizes in the computation of the vector-valued final epidemic size and epidemic threshold, in a large class of finite-dimensional SIR-like models

Variations on the Author
Full text link“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
