Ensemble neuronal responses in a large-scale realistic model of the cerebellar cortex
Realistic simulation of central networks remains a challenge due to the complexity of internal connectivity and cellular mechanisms involved. We have recently built a realistic model of the cerebellar granular layer..
Quantum computation with programmable connections between gates
A new model of quantum computation is considered, in which the connections between gates are programmed by the state of a quantum register. This new model of computation is shown to be more powerful than the usual quantum computation, e.g. in achieving the programmability of permutations of N different unitary channels with 1 use instead of N uses per channel. For this task, a new elemental resource is needed, the quantum switch, which can be programmed to switch the order of two channels with a single use of each one
2 Timoteo 2,14-21 - note sull\u27esegesi
One of the fundamental preoccupations of the first Christian communities was the presence of heretical elements inside the preaching of the resurrection. How did late texts of the Pauline community deal with this matter? Which are the variations of the Greek lectio of 2 Tim 2, 14-21? To stand firm with faith means to struggle against these disruptive elements which worry the author of this letter. The charismatic fact of preaching in those days must not give a honest appearance to the rupture of the communion in the faith of the first Church. This article wants to be an academic exercise which links the exegetical analysis with later theological reflections.
Ancora oggi «History involves comparison» e viceversa.
The volume written by Marina Timoteo «Grammatiche del Diritto» bears a sub title «In dialogo con Paolo Grossi» which tells the whole story of how it was conceived and to what purpose. In fact, the Author has suc-cessfully sought to assert and fortify a number of relevant issues and related principles by way of a well conducted interview with one of the most eminent legal scientists in Italy, former Emeritus Professor of History of Law as well as Emeritus President of Corte costituzionale. In it one can find the most challenging and characteristic features of Italian Law, as it has been develop-ing from the Middle Ages through to the contemporary European scenario. Because it is history, as it has been made by single human beings and their deeds, that is a natural ingredient of the legal phenomenon with which it binds in order to give the reader a complete glimpse of what has happened in the legal world over the centuries. And this is also, according both to Ma-rina Timoteo and Paolo Grossi, a distinguishing factor of all comparative researches which, from Maitland on to Gorla in Italy, mutually imply history and comparison. All along the stimulating interview one can find a common thread which turns out to be the guiding light of the reflections made by the two participants in the dialogue, i.e. the attempt to try and find the most pro-found changes in the legal world originated in Europe by the gradual transi-tion from the Middle Ages, when ius commune europeum flourished, to the contemporary age. This is described by mutual agreement between Timoteo and Grossi as, on the one hand, being characterized by the prevalence of Statute law in Continental law, and, on the other hand, by the growing gap dividing the latter and the English common law, still faithful to its customary origins. The fruitful dialogue flows on to reach the conclusion that today in Europe there is a strong need to share a number of founding principles in order for values different from the pursuit of profit and aiming at solidarity to affirm themselves

Published by Oxford University Press on behalf of the European Society of Cardiology. In 2023, cardiovascular imaging has made significant advancements, in terms of technology, pathophysiology, and clinical application. In this review, the most recent research findings in the field of cardiovascular imaging are discussed. Artificial intelligence and large population cohorts, together with several technical improvements, have had a crucial impact on the technological advancements of echocardiography, cardiovascular magnetic resonance, computed tomography (CT), and nuclear medicine. In the field of ischaemic heart disease, it has been demonstrated that appropriate non-invasive imaging strategies improve patients' management and reduce invasive procedures and the need for additional testing at follow-up. Moreover, improvements in plaque characterization with CT are an expanding field of research with relevant implications for the prediction of disease severity, evolution, and response to treatment. In the field of valvular heart disease, imaging techniques have advanced alongside improvements in transcatheter treatment for aortic stenosis, mitral, and tricuspid regurgitation. Finally, in the field of heart failure and cardiomyopathies, cardiovascular imaging has reinforced its crucial role in early diagnosis and risk evaluation, showcasing advanced techniques that outperform traditional methods in predicting adverse outcomes.publishersversionpublishe
Marina Martín Garcia
Isla Martín Garcia is founded on a rock outcrop in the Río de la Plata which is a natural protected area between Argentina and Uruguay. Due to the extension of the runway at the local airport, wetlands between Isla Timoteo Domínguez and Isla Martín Garcia developed during the last decades. The bay, where the old port was located, was loaded with sediment. After the waters between the two islands sedimented, Isla Hércules is formed and a channel is created. For the location of the marina, three possible options are selected: at the pier, south of Isla Hércules and in the sedimented bay north of Isla Martín Garcia. By using a multi criteria analysis, a marina at the pier is chosen as the best option because of its small dredging area and minor environmental impact. In consultation with the consultative authorities, a marina at the bay is chosen as the elaborated alternative. The recovery of the old situation in which the marina is located in the bay is the main reason for this choice.Implementation of the marina at Isla Martín Garcia involves cooperation between two parties: the government and a second investor. The government is responsible for the island, and a certain amount of liquidity is required to boost tourism on the island. A second party, like a private investor, is introduced for the maintenance and exploration of the project. This cooperation needs to invest 22.9 million dollars; this includes the 16.4 million dollars for the government and 6.5 million dollars for the second party. Without involving an external investor the internal rate of return (IRR) is 1.77% which is very low. When involving a private investor the IRR increases, the external investor receives an IRR of 7.71 % over the entire lifetime of the marina.Hydraulic EngineeringCivil Engineering and Geoscience
Circ-ZNF609 regulates G1-S progression in rhabdomyosarcoma
Circular RNAs (circRNAs) represent a class of covalently closed RNAs, derived from non-canonical splicing events, which are expressed in all eukaryotes and often conserved among different species. We previously showed that the circRNA originating from the ZNF609 locus (circ-ZNF609) acts as a crucial regulator of human primary myoblast growth: indeed, the downregulation of the circRNA, and not of its linear counterpart, strongly reduced the proliferation rate of in vitro cultured myoblasts. To deepen our knowledge about circ-ZNF609 role in cell cycle regulation, we studied its expression and function in rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS), a pediatric skeletal muscle malignancy. We found that circ-ZNF609 is upregulated in biopsies from the two major RMS subtypes, embryonal (ERMS) and alveolar (ARMS). Moreover, we discovered that in an ERMS-derived cell line circ-ZNF609 knock-down induced a specific block at the G1-S transition, a strong decrease of p-Akt protein level and an alteration of the pRb/Rb ratio. Regarding p-Akt, we were able to show that circ-ZNF609 acts by counteracting p-Akt proteasome-dependent degradation, thus working as a new regulator of cell proliferation-related pathways. As opposed to ERMS-derived cells, the circRNA depletion had no cell cycle effects in ARMS-derived cells. Since in these cells the p53 gene resulted downregulated, with a concomitant upregulation of its cell cycle-related target genes, we suggest that this could account for the lack of circ-ZNF609 effect in ARMS. © 2019, The Author(s)

Direct recognition of crystal structures via three-dimensional convolutional neural networks with high accuracy and tolerance to random displacements and missing atoms
Computational methods and machine learning algorithms for automatic information extraction are crucial to enable data-driven materials science. These approaches are changing materials characterization and analytics, which often require a user-specified threshold to e.g. detect structure or symmetries in structures with defects. Here, we present a machine learning-based approach that directly works on the original periodic arrangements of atoms based on a three-dimensional convolutional neural network without any transformation of descriptors. Our approach shows a high classification accuracy and tolerance to the presence of random displacements and missing atoms. Experimentally, we successfully reconstruct the ordered L12 precipitates extracted from atom probe tomography data, consistent with segmentation based on isocomposition surfaces. The convolutional layers are essential for the simultaneous identification of compositional and structural information, which also give rise to its high tolerance. Our work advances machine learning-based crystal structure identification for incomplete crystal structural data
Cuerpos ambiguos.
Recent scholarship on the Pastoral Epistles shows that they are addressing several controversies. The author, on one hand, claims to be the legitimate heir to a long-standing Pauline tradition and, on the other, he seeks to advance a doctrine that provides important information about gender roles at the beginning of Christianity. The present article, drawing on Mary Douglas´ theory on the relationship between the social and the physical body, compares the gender ideals contained in the Pastoral Letters with those in the Apocryphal Acts of Paul and Thecla.
