Akin, Senay, Metin Bastug, Ridvan Colak, Hakan Ficicilar, Betul Simten Saglam, Nazan S. Kosar, and Haydar Demirel. Possible adaptation of the adrenal gland Hsp72 expression to hypoxic stress. High Alt Med Biol. 00:000-000, 2021. Background: Adrenal glands play a central role in the general response to stress and controlling wholebody homeostasis. One of the most severe environmental stresses encountered by high-altitude climbers is hypoxia. Since the 72 kDa heat shock protein (Hsp72) has a critical role in cellular homeostasis, regulation of Hsp72 in adrenal glands seems to be crucial for maintaining cellular integrity of the gland and sustaining an adequate whole-body stress response in a hypoxic environment. Therefore, this study investigated if 15 days of hypoxia results in the induction of Hsp72 in adrenal glands. In addition, we examined whether heat treatment had any effect on adrenal Hsp72 expression to hypoxia, as cellular and systemic physiological cross-adaptation was suggested between heat stress and hypoxic stress. Materials and Methods: Male 4-month-old Wistar rats were randomly assigned to one of the four experimental groups (n = 8 each group): (1) control (C), (2) heat treatment (15H), (3) heat treatment and 15 days of normobaric hypoxia (15HHp), and (4) 15 days of normobaric hypoxia (15Hp). Three one-hour heat treatment sessions at 41 degrees C were applied on the first two days before hypoxic exposure and on the day 7. Hypoxic exposure was consisting of normobaric hypoxia containing 9.7% O-2. Results: Fifteen days of hypoxia did not increase the adrenal Hsp72 levels (p = 0.99). Furthermore, when hypoxia was added to the heat treatment, heat-related increases in adrenal Hsp72 levels disappeared. Adrenal weight to body weight ratio was not different among groups (p = 0.11). Plasma corticosterone levels were significantly lower in all experimental groups compared with control (p 15H>15HHp >15Hp; p < 0.05). Conclusions: These data demonstrate the adaptation of the adrenal gland to 15-day chronic normobaric hypoxic stress as well as possible cross-adaptation between heat and hypoxic stress in the adrenal gland

Nonlinear system identification with regularized Tensor Network B-splines
This article introduces the Tensor Network B-spline (TNBS) model for the regularized identification of nonlinear systems using a nonlinear autoregressive exogenous (NARX) approach. Tensor network theory is used to alleviate the curse of dimensionality of multivariate B-splines by representing the high-dimensional weight tensor as a low-rank approximation. An iterative algorithm based on the alternating linear scheme is developed to directly estimate the low-rank tensor network approximation, removing the need to ever explicitly construct the exponentially large weight tensor. This reduces the computational and storage complexity significantly, allowing the identification of NARX systems with a large number of inputs and lags. The proposed algorithm is numerically stable, robust to noise, guaranteed to monotonically converge, and allows the straightforward incorporation of regularization. The TNBS-NARX model is validated through the identification of the cascaded watertank benchmark nonlinear system, on which it achieves state-of-the-art performance while identifying a 16-dimensional B-spline surface in 4 s on a standard desktop computer. An open-source MATLAB implementation is available on GitHub.Team Jan-Willem van Wingerde
Tensor Network B-splines for high-dimensional function approximation
B-splines are basis functions for the spline function space and are extensively used in applications requiring function approximation. The generalization of B-splines to multiple dimensions is done through tensor products of their univariate basis functions. The number of basis functions and weights that define a multivariate B-spline surface, therefore, increase exponentially with the number of dimensions, i.e. B-splines suffer from the curse of dimensionality. Tensor network theory provides a mathematical framework to alleviate the curse of dimensionality of B-splines by representing the high-dimensional weight tensor as a low-rank approximation. This thesis presents the Tensor Network B-spline (TNBS) model, along with an optimization algorithm that allows the estimation of the exponentially large weight tensor directly from data, without ever needing to explicitly construct it. P-spline regularization is incorporated to induce additional smoothness and ensure the B-spline hypersurface generalizes well across the high-volume domain. The developed TNBS framework opens doors for the application of B-spline theory in high-dimensional function approximation. This thesis provides an overview of both B-spline and tensor network theory, then uses it to derive the TNBS model. We validate the effectiveness of the model through an application in black-box nonlinear system identification using a NARX approach. An open-source MATLAB implementation of TNBS is made available on GitHub. The work is concluded with some recommendations for further research on this topic.Mechanical Engineering | Systems and Contro
Robot Journalism : People's perceptions of automated contents
This study examines the capabilities of news writing robots as well as people's perceptions of these articles by providing texts written by robots to participants. The participating groups were divided into two groups: the first group had background knowledge about machine learning, and the second group did not have machine learning knowledge. Participants also had to rate some quality attributes of the text based on their perception. Based on the results, the group with a background of machine learning knowledge had a better performance in recognizing the author of the text than the group without machine learning knowledge, and the difference between the two groups was statistically significant. The results also showed that there is no relationship between the qualitative attributes of a text and the diagnosis of whether the text is robotic or not. The results also showed that the background of the news could negatively or positively affect the quality evaluation of the readers of that news. Therefore, these specific backgrounds and details in the news can affect the reader's final judgment in identifying the author of the news.Ridvan KaramanMasterarbeit Universität Klagenfurt 202

Immersions preserved under rotations with totally reducible focal set
In [1] Carter and the author introduced the idea of an immersion f : M m → Rn with totally reducible focal set (TRFS). Such an immersion has the property that, for all p ∈ M, the focal set with base p is a union of hyperplanes in the normal plane to f(M) at f(p). Here we show that if we take two immersions with TRFS then we can construct new immersions with TRFS. In particular, rotating an immersion with TRFS about an axis gives a new immersion with TRFS. © TÜBİTAK
Effects of conjugated linoleic acid supplementation and exercise on post-heparin lipoprotein lipase, butyrylcholinesterase, blood lipid profile and glucose metabolism in young men
This study was designed to investigate the effects of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) supplementation and endurance exercise training-induced changes on post-heparin lipoprotein lipase (PH-LPL) and butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) activities along with leptin, insulin and lipid levels in plasma by a randomized double blind experiment. Eighteen sedentary male volunteers were randomly divided into CLA and Placebo (PLC) supplementation groups. Both groups underwent daily supplementation of either 3 g CLA or 3 g placebo for 30 days, respectively, and performed exercise on a bicycle ergometer 3 times per week for 30-40 min at 50% VO2 peak workload. For plasma glucose, insulin and leptin levels and BChE activity fasting blood was used. For PH-LPL measurements, blood was collected 15 min after 50 IU/kg iv heparin injection. In all groups, there is a statistically significant decrease in BChE (p = 0.03, p = 0.02) and leptin (p = 0.002), insulin and HOMA-IR levels (p = 0.02). Exercise with or without CIA supplementation decreased insulin levels and increased insulin sensitivity. PH-LPL activity was increased significantly in both groups, displaying increased fatty acid mobilization. We conclude that though CLA supplementation and exercise can affect these parameters, CLA is not more effective than exercise alone. Hence, a prolonged supplementation regime may be more effective. Taken together in our small study group, our findings display that BChE is a potential marker for synthetic function of liver, fat metabolism, an obesity marker, a function long overlooked. Ismâil Sâdık Kemâl Pasha's Tefsîr-i Kemâl (analysis-text-index)
Şair bu üslûbu nedeniyle teknik bazı özelliklere takılmadan eserlerini telif etmiştir.İsmâil Sâdık Kemâl Pasha lived between 1824-1892. He witnessed many events that took place due to the fact that he was a Pasha during the late stages of Ottoman Empire. The works of the poet, who lived as a political exile, are generally of religious content. We observe in his works that İsmâil Sâdık Kemâl Pasha, who is capable of expressing all kinds of meanings in verse, received a good education. In addition, his father's duty in various regions of the Ottoman Empire had an important effect on the education life of the poet. İsmâil Sâdık Kemâl wrote his work titled Tefsîr-i Kemâl to provide spirituality and offer a solution for crisis of faith during the collapse of the Ottoman Empire. The author gave detailed information about both the principles of Islamic belief and the principles of Islamic worship in his work. The poet, who wrote his interpretation in verse -unlike the usual method of prose in the last period of the Ottoman Empire- benefited from the views and writings of other commentators via the rich library he established. İsmâil Sâdık Kemâl Pasha, who had a Sufi-like abstinent lifestyle, included miracles of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and Düğümlü Baba to break monotony in his work. İsmâil Sâdık Kemâl Pasha, who authored works with religious content, gave importance to content rather than form. As he styled his poems with this approach, his works lack some technical features
