The specimens sampled by Coelho (1972) were collected in four stations at northeastern of Brazil: one in Ceará, two in Pernambuco and one in Sergipe. Previous records in Sergipe. Thermal expansion anomalies of R(Fe, M)(12) (R=Y, Nd; M=Mo and Si)
Structural and thermal-expansion anomaly studies on R(Fe,M)(12) (R=Nd and and Y, M=Mo and Si) compounds were performed by x-ray diffraction. Mo atoms occupy the 8i site. While Si atoms occupy the 8f and 8j sites but not the 8i site. Thermal-expansion anomaly shows only in ab plane in the Mo compounds, while becomes very weak and along with only the c axis in the Si compounds. The anomaly was attributed to the contribution of the interactions of short Fe-Fe distances similar to the previous explanation on other R-Fe intermetallics and that of other strongly positive interactions such as 8j-8j. "Closing the R&D Gap, Evaluating the Sources of R&D Spending"
Both spending and tax policies have been implemented in the United States with the goal of stimulating private sector research and development (R&D). Karier questions whether current R&D policy, especially the research and experimentation tax credit, can contribute to closing the gap between nondefense expenditures on R&D in the United States and such expenditures in other countries, such as Japan and Germany. He also explores possible changes to our current R&D policy to make it more effective.

Western Atlantic—Mexico, Quintana Roo, and Brazil (from Piauí to São Paulo) (Coelho & Torres 1993; Melo 1996; Dall’Occo et al. 2004; Tamburus & Mantelatto 2012). Ecological notes. From shallow waters to 25 m. On hard substrates, sand bottoms or mostly associated with aquatic vegetation (Melo 1996). Acanthonyx dissimulatus is frequently found in association with algae, such as red algae, Sargassum sp. C. Agardh, unidentified brown algae, and on drifted algae on sand bottoms (Almeida et al. 2010). Remarks. Acanthonyx dissimulatus was considered endemic from Brazil (Coelho & Torres 1993) but recently the species geographic distribution was expanded to Mexico (Tamburus & Mantelatto 2012). Preparation of (R)-2-chloro-1-(m-chlorophenyl)ethanol by Lipozyme TL IM-catalyzed second resolution
(R)-2-Chloro-1-(m-chlorophenyl)ethanol, a precursor of (R)-3-chlorostyrene oxide which is the key chiral intermediate for the preparation of several beta 3-adrenergic receptor agonists was prepared in 40% yield and 99% ee by the Lipozyme TL IM-catalyzed second resolution of the corresponding racemate in the presence of vinyl acetate. Contribuição ao conhecimento dos fungos com poros (Basidiomycota) da Região de Santa Maria,RS, Brasil
Este estudo apresenta a descrição de 70 espécies de fungos com poros degradadoras de madeira encontradas em plantações de Pinus spp. ou selecionadas dentre as espécies coletadas em mata nativa. Estes dados foram obtidos a partir de um levantamento taxonômico de fungos com poros ou himenóforo similar (Basidiomycota) realizado na região de Santa Maria, RS, Brasil. Os resultados principais são relacionados a seguir. Oito novas espécies foram descritas sendo sete oriundas de Santa Maria e uma de São Francisco de Paula (Pró-Mata), são elas: Auriporia brasilica G. Coelho, Diplomitoporus marianoi-rochae G. Coelho, D. taquarae G. Coelho, Echinoporia inermis G. Coelho, Gloeoporus guerreroanus G. Coelho, R. M. Silveira & Rajchenb., Fomitiporia sanctichampagnatii G. Coelho, R. M. Silveira & Rajchenb., Polyporus cupressi G. Coelho & R. M. Silveira e Rigidoporus digitocystis G. Coelho & R. M. Silveira. Duas espécies de Phellinus s. l. (Hymenochaetales) conhecidas somente sobre bambus em decomposição foram recombinadas para o gênero Fomitiporia, quais sejam, F. spinescens (J. E. Wright & G. Coelho) G. Coelho, Guerrero & Rajchenb., comb. nov. de Santa Maria e da Argentina e F. uncinata (Rajchenb.) G. Coelho, Guerrero & Rajchenb., comb. nov. da Argentina. Duas espécies interessantes pela cor amarelo intenso do basidioma e himenóforo irpicóidemerulióide, Leucogyrophana pinastri (Fr.) Ginns & Weresub e Pseudomerulius curtisii (Berk.) Redhead & Ginns, têm sido associadas à degradação da madeira de Pinus e coníferas e foram notificadas pela primeira vez para a América do Sul. No Brasil, seis espécies foram coletadas, analisadas e descritas pela primeira vez: Antrodia aurantia Lodge, Ryvarden & Perd.-Sánch., A. variiformis (Peck) Donk, Ceriporia spissa (Schwein. ex Fr.) Rajchenb., Ceriporiopsis subvermispora (Pilát) Gilb. & Ryvarden, Hapalopilus albocitrinus (Petch) Ryvarden e Parmastomyces transmutans (Overh.) Ryvarden. & Gilbn. - exceto Ceriporia spissa, encontrada em angiospermas, todas estas espécies cresciam sobre madeira de Pinus spp. na área estudada. Como resultados adicionais, foram construídas três chaves mundiais de fungos com poros coletadas em Santa Maria ou registradas na literatura: uma para o gênero Gloeoporus Mont., uma para o gênero Rigidoporus Murril, e uma terceira para as espécies conhecidas até o momento como degradadoras de bambus.This study represents a taxonomical survey of poroid Basidiomycota undertaken in the region of Santa Maria, a municipality in Rio Grande do Sul State, southern Brazil. It includes 70 wood-inhabiting species either from native subtropical forests (selected species) or from Pinus spp. plantations. As main results, this work allowed the description of eight new species of poroid fungi, being seven from Santa Maria and one from São Francisco de Paula (Pró-Mata), namely: Auriporia brasilica G. Coelho, Diplomitoporus marianoi-rochae G. Coelho, D. taquarae G. Coelho, Echinoporia inermis G. Coelho, Gloeoporus guerreroanus G. Coelho, R. M. Silveira & Rajchenb., Fomitiporia sanctichampagnatii G. Coelho, R. M. Silveira & Rajchenb., Polyporus cupressi G. Coelho & R. M. Silveira and Rigidoporus digitocystis G. Coelho & R. M. Silveira. Two species of Phellinus s. l. (Hymenochaetales) so far known growing on bamboos were recombined into Fomitiporia, i.e., F. spinescens (J. E. Wright & G. Coelho) G. Coelho, Guerrero & Rajchenb., comb. nov. from Santa Maria and Argentina and F. uncinata (Rajchenb.) G. Coelho, Guerrero & Rajchenb., comb. nov. from Argentina. In Pinus plantations, specimens of Leucogyrophana pinastri (Fr.) Ginns & Weresub and Pseudomerulius curtisii (Berk.) Redhead & Ginns, two wood-decaying species of pines and conifers previously unrecorded from South America, were collected and analyzed. The following six species were recorded for the first time in the Brazilian territory: Antrodia aurantia Lodge, Ryvarden & Perd.- Sánch., A. variiformis (Peck) Donk, Ceriporia spissa (Schwein. ex Fr.) Rajchenb., Ceriporiopsis subvermispora (Pilát) Gilb. & Ryvarden, Hapalopilus albocitrinus (Petch) Ryvarden, and Parmastomyces transmutans (Overh.) Ryvarden. & Gilbn., all of them growing on wood of Pinus spp. in the study area, except for C. spissa, which was found only on angiosperm wood. This work includes three worldwide keys based on the literature records and field data, one being to Gloeoporus Mont., another to Rigidoporus Murril, and another to all the species of poroid fungi known growing on bamboos

Nevertheless, the material examined by him, deposited in the Crustacea Collection of the Museu Nacional in Rio de Janeiro is not <i>P. r i i s e i</i>, but <i>P. brasiliensis</i>, as verified by one of us (P. A. Coelho). Abrolhos is the southern range known for this species. A 2 h periodic variation in the low-mass X-ray binary Ser X-1
Spectroscopy of the low-mass X-ray binary Ser X-1 using the Gran Telescopio Canarias have revealed a ?2 h periodic variability that is present in the three strongest emission lines. We tentatively interpret this variability as due to orbital motion, making it the first indication of the orbital period of Ser X-1. Together with the fact that the emission lines are remarkably narrow, but still resolved, we show that a main-sequence K dwarf together with a canonical 1.4 M? neutron star gives a good description of the system. In this scenario, the most likely place for the emission lines to arise is the accretion disc, instead of a localized region in the binary (such as the irradiated surface or the stream-impact point), and their narrowness is due instead to the low inclination (?10°) of Ser X-1
