I piani regolatori di Luigi Dodi per Cremona, Piacenza e Pavia del secondo dopoguerra

    No full text

Starting from an ongoing research, this paper intends to investigate the town plans for Cremona, Piacenza and Pavia designed after World War II in consultation with Luigi Dodi. First of all, it intends to bring out the design approach of these town plans as regards the issues of zoning, roads and transport, historical centres and urban design. Furthermore, it intends to reflect on Dodi’s contribution to the culture of modern town planning

The research about meanings and ways in which Urban Design has been interpreted during last century in Italy involves some issues. The last ones especially deal with the meaning of the expression "Urban Design", the identification of the most significant sources, the definition of some interpretative categories. This article deals with some methodological issues necessary to start the outline of a critical phenomenology of Urban Design in the Italian architectural and town planning journals published between 1945 and 1980. It offers as well some first interpretative hypotheses of the outcomes of this research. Among others, the one that highlights the significant role played by Urban Design in the Italian architectural and town-planning culture of the late Twentieth Century

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    No full text
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

Novelty and learning in cognitive control: evidence from the Simon task

    No full text
While information that is associated with inappropriate responses can interfere with an ongoing task and be detrimental to performance, cognitive control mechanisms and specific contextual conditions can alleviate interference from unwanted information. In the spatial correspondence (Simon) task, interference has been consistently shown to be reduced by spatial non-correspondence in the previous trial (i.e., correspondence sequence effect, CSE); however the mechanisms supporting this sequential effect are not well understood. Here we investigated the role of novelty and trial-to-trial changes in stimulus and response features in a Simon task, observing similar modulation of CSE for novel and non-novel stimulus changes. However, changing the response modality from trial to trial dampened CSE, and this dampening was more pronounced when the probability of switch trials was higher, suggesting a role for long-term learning. The results are consistent with recent accounts, which indicate that spatial interference can be prevented by cognitive control mechanisms triggered by learned bindings
