Educational changes attachment style and the Italian phenomenon of long family. A research conducted with the undergraduate students of the University of Padua
In Italy the transition to adulthood is constantly lengthening. Youths seem to be suspended between two polarities: a good capacity to adapt to social conditions versus an insecure attachment style. The inability to manage solitude, to accept personal limits and the limits of life show a tendency to dependence behaviours. The research on 1570 students reveals how their attachment style affects their attitude towards death; their choice of habitation; their beliefs; their civic engagement and wellbeing. The analysis confirms that “anxious” participants feel anguish about their own death, are afraid about other’s loss; are incapable of conquering independent beliefs and residence. “Secure” ones face separations calmly and develop a stronger civic sense. The “avoidant” individuals become independent through strong beliefs and refuse to be tied on to anyone and to any spiritual conception
Engagement, beliefs, autonomy & happiness. A survey conducted with undergraduates of University of Padua
We are carrying out a piece of qualitative research with 1570 students from the University of Padua, whose ages range from 18 to 38 years old (mean average of 22,11; std. 2,508). Among the participants 580 are males (37%) and 990 females (63 %). The Faculties which they are registered in are either scientific (48,5 %) or humanistic (41,3 %). In particular the Faculties of Medicine (11,0%), Engineering (13,0%), Mathematic Physic and Naturalistic Sciences (12,8%), Pharmacy (11,7%) belong to the first group; while the Faculties of Literature and Philosophy (13,1%), Science of Training (17,6%), Low (10,6%) belong to the other one. The Faculty of Psychology (10,2%) has been considered in the middle of two categories.
The theoretical background of this survey is composed by the Social Cognitive Theory of Bandura (1986); contemporary theories of happiness (Lyubomirsky and Ross, 1997), the research about Italian families conducted by Scabini (1995) and IARD Institute (2007); developmental systems theories of positive youth development (Lerner, Brentano, Dowling & Anderson, 2002).
We intend to discover how the level of personal, spiritual and religious beliefs (SRPB) and the grade of civic and moral engagement are connected to the subjective happiness (SHS) of undergraduates and to their living autonomy (considered as an indicator of general autonomy) . The data has been gathered with the WHO QOL SRPB (2002), the subjective happiness scale (Lyubomirsky e Lepper, 1997), the civic and moral disengagement scale (Caprara, Bandura, 1996). The quantitative data analysis used the software SPSS, version 17; while we are using the software SPAD for the qualitative one.
On the basis of the results we have created and test an equation structural model.
The research goal is to promote happiness and autonomy of italian undergraduates, through the organization of University seminars focused on the strengthening of beliefs and civic and moral engagement
Attachment style and representation of death among Padova University students.Stile di attaccamento, rappresentazione della morte e della felicità. Un'indagine condotta con gli studenti dell'Università di Padova
In ltaly the transition to adulthood is constantly lengthening Youths seem to be suspended between two polarities: a good capacity to adapt to social conditions versus an insecure attachment style. The inability to manage solitude, to accept personal limits and the limits of life show a tendency to dependence behaviours The regressive adaptation to primary relationships is connected to anguish about death and to the Church's incapacity to resolve it Mikulincer and Florian examined the connection between attachment and death's terror and they discovered that "secure" individuals are able to transcend terror at a symbolic level, "anxious" ones are invaded by fear; "avoidant" 0nes, even if they are able to dismiss anxiety, show that they haven't elaborated it The research on 1570 students reveals how their attachment style affects their attitude towards death; their choice of habitation; their beliefs; their civic Disagagement and wellbeing. Civic and moral disangagement, weak personal beliefs and unhappiness: A survey study of the "famiglia lunga" phenomenon in Italy
In Italy, the transition from adolescence to adulthood has been lengthening. There is disagreement about whether this is a healthy adaptation to current socioeconomic conditions or a sign of excessive dependency and insecure anxious attachment (Flett, Endler, & Besser, 2009; Maione & Franceschini, 1999; Scabini & Cigoli, 1997; Scabini & Marta, 1996). We report a study of 1570 Italian undergraduates at the University of Padova, exploring relations between: living choice; attachment style; religious, spiritual, and personal beliefs; civic and moral disengagement; and perceived happiness. Living on one’s own was associated with avoidant or secure attachment, being more engaged in society, and stronger personal and spiritual beliefs. Living both with parents and in other living conditions was associated with anxious attachment, weaker personal beliefs but stronger religious beliefs, greater civic and moral disengagement, and greater unhappiness. Regardless of living arrangements, anxious attachment was related to civic and moral disengagement, weaker personal beliefs, and greater unhappiness. Insecure avoidant attachment was related to civic and moral disengagement and weaker religious and spiritual beliefs
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
