CoCo - A framework for multicore visuo-haptic in mixed reality
Mixed Reality applications involve the integration of RGB-D streams with virtual entities potentially extended with force feedback. Increasing complexity of the applications pushes the limits of traditional computing structures, not keeping up with the increased computing power of multicore platform. This paper presents the CoCo framework, a component based, multicore system designed for tackling the challenges of visuo-haptics in mixed reality environment, with structural reconfiguration. Special care has been also given to the management of transformation between reference frames for easing registration, calibration and integration of robotic systems. The framework is described together with a description of two relevant case studies
Il profilo filosofico e culturale di un metafisico neoclassico. A proposito di "Il filosofo e la fede. Il cristianesimo ‘moderno’ di Gustavo Bontadini" di Leonardo Messinese
This paper examines Leonardo Messinese’s volume, Il filosofo e la fede. Il cristianesimo ‘moderno’ di Gustavo Bon-tadini. From the book emerges a philosophical portrait of the Milanese thinker useful to understand the fun-damental points of his theoretical proposal: neoclassical metaphysics, brought out by the Author in relation to the dispute with Emanuele Severino. Some lesser-known cultural, civil and political aspects of Bontadini’s intellectual biography are also exposed. The intent of the volume is to spread a greater knowledge of the fig-ure of Bontadini within Italian philosophical culture, particularly that of Catholic inspiration
Factors affecting hesitancy to mrna and viral vector COVID-19 vaccines among college students in Italy
Vaccine hesitancy (VH) may be significant in jeopardizing efforts to mass containment of COVID-19. A cross-sectional survey was carried out on a sample of 2667 Italian college students, before the COVID-19 vaccines became available for this age group (from 7 May to 31 May 2021). An online survey was created to obtain information about socio-demographic, health-related, and psychological factors linked to mRNA and viral vector COVID-19 vaccines. Statistically significant higher VH (30.4%) and vaccine resistance (12.2%) rates were found for viral vector than mRNA COVID-19 vaccines (7.2% and 1.0%, respectively; p < 0.001). Factors related to viral vector VH were partially different from those related to mRNA VH. Students with greater endorsement on conspiracy statements and negative attitudes toward the vaccine had higher odds of being vaccine-hesitant or-resistant. Students who had received a previous COVID-19 test and who scored higher on the agreeableness personality dimension had lower odds to be vaccine-hesitant or-resistant. The willingness to choose the vaccine was related to the viral vector but not to the mRNA VH. Taking into consideration the factors involved in vaccine hesitancy/resistance in college students could represent a key public health strategy to increase vaccine coverage and reduce viral spreading
POST-TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER: A FREQUENT WORK-RELATED ILLNESS
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is an anxiety disorder that results from exposure to a traumatic event, and is characterized by hypermnesia of the traumatic event with frequent re-experiencing of the tragic occurrence, hyperarousal, and avoidance behaviour. Depression, anxiety, sleep dysfunction and substance abuse are also commonly reported. PTSD is highly prevalent both in the general population and in certain occupations that are particularly exposed to life-threatening situations, physically and psychological demanding activities, and physical assault, such as rescue workers, firefighters and paramedics. Recent advances in the comprehension of the epidemiology, physiopathology and clinical presentation of PTSD could push toward increased identification of this common psychiatric disorder with significant reflections on the chances of successful treatmen
Clindamycin-induced restless syndrome
Brief description: We presented a case of severe RLS associated with clindamycin (a lincosamide antibiotic frequently used in clinical practice) which was also a cause of a neurological emergency unit admissio
AI-aesthetics and the artificial author
Consider this scenario: you discover that an artwork you greatly admire, or a captivating novel that deeply moved you, is in fact the product of artificial intelligence, not a human’s work. Would your aesthetic judgment shift? Would you perceive the work differently? If so, why? The advent of artificial intelligence (AI) in the realm of art has sparked numerous philosophical questions related to the authorship and artistic intent behind AI-generated works. This paper explores the debate between viewing AI as a tool employed by human artists and perceiving AI as a new form of artistic expression with minimal human involvement. While we often seek a human mind behind certain artworks, we may still appreciate and engage with works that lack this element but have aesthetic value nonetheless. The paper also considers the traditional concept of “implied author”, suggesting that readers or artwork viewers might construct an authorial presence from the work itself, regardless of its actual origin. It will be finally suggested how AI-generated art might change our perceptions of human authorship itself
Inappropriate sexual behaviors associated with donepezil tratment: a case report
We documented a patient with Alzheimer's Disease with profound changes in sexuality after donepezil treatment. We suggested that inappropriate sexual behaviors associated with donepezil, although uncommon adverse event, could develop after donepezil should be taken into consideration by the phisicians prescribing this dru
A SICILIAN AUTHOR OF ACCOUNTING: EMANUELE PISANI AND HIS "STATHMOGRAPHY"
The paper intends to present the accounting method 'invented' by Emanuele Pisani,
the most relevant Sicilian author of the second half of the XIX century. His method was called "Stathmography" and it can be considered the "middle point" between the
"personalistic" approach to accounts - that dominated the scene with Cerboni's work and the "materialistic" approach - that was introduced by Crippa and continued by Besta.
Although its premises originated with previous authors, his idea was founded upon a new theoretical basis that was the first step to the greater development of the following accounting thought. Considering the importance of the context. A cross-fertilisation will be made within the contents of accounting and the context in which it operated, so a "cross-disciplinary" perspective will be adopted. In pursuing this aim, this paper seeks to explain how this method worked, what kind of implications it had and how the context
influenced its ideas. The author will also be considered in his local mainstream of
thought: the "Scuola Palermitana" from past times (Flori, 1636) up until contemporary
and present day developments
