No full textThe censure of the war bishops by the Germanic Council (743) gave rise in Francia to in-depth thoughts on the role and mission of the bishops, next to the great laymen, in parallel with the implementation of the reform of the ecclesiastical mores. Based upon quick re-reading of some epistolary and liturgical witnesses of the Franco-Pontifical exchanges during the 740s, the author wonders about the impact of this reform on the 751 coup d’état.La condamnation des évêques guerriers par le concile germanique (743) a suscité en Francie une réflexion en profondeur sur le rôle et la mission des évêques au côté des grands laïcs, parallèlement à la mise en oeuvre de la réforme des moeurs ecclésiastiques. Au gré d’une rapide relecture de quelques témoins épistolaires et liturgiques des échanges franco-pontificaux durant les années 740, l’auteur s’interroge sur l’impact de cette réforme sur le coup d’État de 751.De veroordeling van de oorlogsbisschoppen door het Germaanse concilie (743) deed in Francia diepgaande gedachten rijzen over de rol en de missie van de bisschoppen, naast de grote leken, samen met de uitvoering van de hervorming van de kerkelijke zeden. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. La succession d’Étienne de Liège († 920) : une vacance épiscopale dans l’attente d’un arbitrage pontifical ?
No full textFolgt man der gängigen Ansicht der Forschung, so löste der Tod Bischof Stefans von Lüttich (19. Mai 920) einen erbitterten Streit um seine Nachfolge zwischen dem Lütticher Kleriker Hilduin, Kandidat Herzog Giselberts von Lotharingien, und Richer, Abt von Prüm und Kandidat des Karolingers Karls des Einfältigen, aus. Er wurde 922 von Papst Johannes x. entschieden. H. Zimmermann veröffentlichte 1957 einen Beitrag, der für die Beschäftigung mit den Quellen zu diesem Thema grundlegend ist und auch heute noch allen Forschern, die sich mit diesem Streit befassen, als Referenz dient. 60 Jahre nach Erscheinen des Aufsatzes bietet der vorliegende Beitrag eine Bilanz der Fortschritte, welche die Forschung inzwischen machte und die es erlauben, die Ereignisse im Zusammenhang mit der Vakanz des Bistums Lüttich zu Beginn des 10. Jahrhunderts in neuer Perspektive zu untersuchen. Er geht insbesondere der Frage nach der tatsächlichen Vakanz des Lütticher Bischofssitzes während der Jahre 920 bis 922 nach.If one follows the common view of research, the death of Bishop Stephan of Liège (19 May 920) triggered a bitter dispute about his succession between the Liège cleric Hilduin, candidate of Giselbert, Duke of Lorraine, and Richer, abbot of Prüm and candidate of the Carolingian Charles the Simple. The quarrel was solved in 922 by Pope John x ’ s arbitration. In 1957, H. Zimmermann published a contribution which is fundamental for the study of the sources on this subject and which still serves as a reference for all scholars working on this conflict. 60 years after the publication of this essay, this article provides an overview of the progress made by research in order to establish a new perspective by examining the question of the actual vacancy of the bishop’s seat of Liège during the years 920 to 922.La mort de l’évêque de Liège Étienne (19 mai 920) inaugura, à en croire une tradition bien établie, une âpre querelle de succession entre Hilduin, clerc liégeois, candidat du duc de Lotharingie Gislebert, et Richaire, abbé de Prüm, candidat du carolingien Charles le Simple, finalement tranchée par l’arbitrage du pape Jean x en 922. En 1957, H. Zimmermann consacrait un article substantiel à l’étude du corpus de sources de cette affaire, qui demeure aujourd’hui la référence de tous les auteurs amenés à évoquer cette querelle. Soixante années après sa parution, le présent article propose un bilan des avancées de la recherche susceptibles d’éclairer, sous un jour neuf, les événements qui jalonnèrent la vacance du siège épiscopal de Liège à l’aube du Xe siècle. Se pose alors la question de la réalité de la vacance du siège épiscopal de Liège durant les années 920-922.Volgens een gevestigde traditie gaf het overlijden van bisschop Stefaan van Luik (19 mei 920) aanleiding tot een bittere vete tussen Hilduinus, een Luikse geestelijke, kandidaat van Giselbert, hertog van Lotharingen, en Richarus, abt van Prüm, kandidaat van de Karolingische koning Karel de Eenvoudige. Deze werd uiteindelijk beslecht door arbitrage van paus Johannes x, in 922. In 1957 wijdde H. Zimmermann een zeer diepgaande studie aan het corpus van de bronnen voor deze zaak, vandaag nog steeds de referentie. Zestig jaar na deze publicatie biedt volgend artikel een overzicht van de vorderingen in dit onderzoek en laat toe een nieuw licht te werpen op de gebeurtenissen die de bisschoppelijke zetel van Luik in het begin van de tiende eeuw markeerden.
