Measuring and analyzing German and Spanish customer satisfaction of using the iPhone 4S Mobile Cloud service

    No full text
This paper presents the customer satisfaction analysis for measuring popularity in the Mobile Cloud, which is an emerging area in the Cloud and Big Data Computing. Organizational Sustainability Modeling (OSM) is the proposed method used in this research. The twelve-month of German and Spanish consumer data are used for the analysis to investigate the return and risk status associated with the ratings of customer satisfaction in the iPhone 4S Mobile Cloud services. Results show that there is a decline in the satisfaction ratings in Germany and Spain due to economic downturn and competitions in the market, which support our hypothesis. Key outputs have been explained and they confirm that all analysis and interpretations fulfill the criteria for OSM. The use of statistical and visualization method proposed by OSM can expose unexploited data and allows the stakeholders to understand the status of return and risk of their Cloud strategies easier than the use of other data analysis

An Introductory Approach to Risk Visualization as a Service

    No full text
This paper introduces the Risk Visualization as a Service (RVaaS) and presents the motivation, rationale, methodology, Cloud APIs used, operations and examples of using RVaaS. Risks can be calculated within seconds and presented in the form of Visualization to ensure that unexploited areas are ex-posed. RVaaS operates in two phases. The first phase includes the risk modeling in Black Scholes Model (BSM), creating 3D Visualization and Analysis. The second phase consists of calculating key derivatives such as Delta and Theta for financial modeling. Risks presented in visualization allow the potential investors and stakeholders to keep track of the status of risk with regard to time, prices and volatility. Our approach can improve accuracy and performance. Results in experiments show that RVaaS can perform up to 500,000 simulations and complete all simulations within 24 seconds for time steps of up to 50. We also introduce financial stock market analysis (FSMA) that can fully blend with RVaaS and demonstrate two examples that can help investors make better decision based on the pricing and market volatility information. RVaaS provides a structured way to deploy low cost, high quality risk assessment and support real-time calculations

Interview with Dr. Victor Rodriguez, educator and author of the memoir "The Bell Ringer," about his life and career. Dr. Rodriguez is a North Texas alumni, member of the UNT Athletic Hall of fame, member of the Geezles Fraternity, and pioneer Mexican American educator. Dr. Victor Rodriguez spotlights significant insights into his storied career through five eras: his early all-Hispanic elementary school training; his continued study and budding athletic prowess in the Edna, TX, school district; his Victoria Junior College athletic achievements and learning; his higher education, Geezle membership, and track accomplishments at North Texas State College; and his 37-year career as a teacher, coach, and superintendent in the San Antonio school district. Inspired by his Anglo third-grade teacher in an all-Hispanic school in Edna, TX, Rodriguez responded to his teacher's challenge to be a civic contributor by becoming a daily bell ringer at the local Catholic church (described in detail in his book, The Bell Ringer), a job requiring him to arise at 4:30 each morning and to run two miles one way amid nipping dogs to ring the bell. This discipline and activity would tap his athletic ability later as he surfaced as a distance district winner despite running barefoot, in blue jeans, and in an oversized t-shirt. From this beginning, he would emerge as a state champion and win a track scholarship to Victoria Junior College where he would win the national junior college title; that accomplishment would earn him track scholarship offers from many top-level four-year college programs of which he selected North Texas State College to continue his running and educational pursuits. While at NTSC, he joined the Geezle Fraternity and captured attributes of group cohesion, solidarity, and mutual benefit/trust. On the cinder track, his talents earned him gold medals in national events such as the Kansas and Drake Relays. After college and military service, Victor joined the San Antonio ISD to begin a 37-year career journey, first as a classroom teacher for bilingual children, then to increasing levels of responsibility as coach, teacher, principal, area coordinator, climaxing at the pinnacle of leadership as superintendent for the district. Along the way, he earned a PhD from the University of Texas-Austin and a year-long fellowship at Yale

Aprendizagem Significativa na Educação a Distância: um Estudo sobre as Práticas Docentes no Diagnóstico dos Conhecimentos Prévios de Alunos de Licenciatura em Informática

    No full text
This study addresses the importance of the diagnosis of prior knowledge in promoting meaningful learning, emphasizing its vital role in connecting new knowledge with existing cognitive schemes. The focus was to investigate whether professors working in a higher education distance learning program perform such diagnosis and how they implement it. Through a qualitative exploratory research approach, evidence was found that, despite possibilities to promote meaningful learning in distance education through Moodle interactive tools, professors pointed out that communication delays and the rigidity in content structure can hinder the practice of diagnosis and the development of potentially meaningful material for students. These findings underscore the need for adaptive pedagogical strategies to ensure an effective approach in distance education.   Keywords: Meaningful learning. Distance education. Prior knowledge. Teaching practice. Educação a distância. Prática docente.

Human CD8+ T cells mediate protective immunity induced by a human malaria vaccine in human immune system mice

AbstractA number of studies have shown that CD8+ T cells mediate protective anti-malaria immunity in a mouse model. However, whether human CD8+ T cells play a role in protection against malaria remains unknown. We recently established human immune system (HIS) mice harboring functional human CD8+ T cells (HIS-CD8 mice) by transduction with HLA-A∗0201 and certain human cytokines using recombinant adeno-associated virus-based gene transfer technologies. These HIS-CD8 mice mount a potent, antigen-specific HLA-A∗0201-restricted human CD8+ T-cell response upon immunization with a recombinant adenovirus expressing a human malaria antigen, the Plasmodium falciparum circumsporozoite protein (PfCSP), termed AdPfCSP. In the present study, we challenged AdPfCSP-immunized HIS-CD8 mice with transgenic Plasmodium berghei sporozoites expressing full-length PfCSP and found that AdPfCSP-immunized (but not naïve) mice were protected against subsequent malaria challenge. The level of the HLA-A∗0201-restricted, PfCSP-specific human CD8+ T-cell response was closely correlated with the level of malaria protection. Furthermore, depletion of human CD8+ T cells from AdPfCSP-immunized HIS-CD8 mice almost completely abolished the anti-malaria immune response. Taken together, our data show that human CD8+ T cells mediate protective anti-malaria immunity in vivo

Does the author write words, or do words "write" him? : a study of metafiction in Victor Pelevin’s literary works

    No full text
The subject of the following article, shown on a background of several fields (literary theory, cultural studies, philosophy) centers around Victor Pelevin’s novel "T". The main objective is not only to analyze it as a model example of postmodern literature (focusing on postmodern common themes, motifs and techniques) but also to describe various contexts and traditions, which are featured in Pelevin’s literary works. The authoress pays special attention to the novel’s intertextuality and metafiction featured in it. On the background of such discourse, using "T" as a reference book, the conclusion of the essay covers the issues stated in Pelevin’s novel, emphasizing the ambivalence of emptiness, that can play both destructive and liberative role
