Reading acts of narrative appropriation: four instances of fraudulent memoir
PhDThis thesis examines acts of narrative appropriation, the telling of purportedly‘authentic’ life stories by those for whom the stories are not theirs to tell. This
misuse or subversion of genre - the discipline of historical writing and the category
of autobiography - becomes a means for cultural, social and political dissimulation,
and the analysis focuses both on the act: the event, trespass, or ‘theft’ of another’s
life story, and on the cultural meaning that this event reveals. These narrative acts
are approached theoretically through discussions of what it means to be an author, a
reader, and through the consideration of literary and social genre, category and form.
In exploring identities at particular risk of appropriation, this thesis shows how
fraudulent appropriated narratives affect our reading of the world, and in turn
influence our perception of already marginalized social groups. My primary
examples include prostitution ‘narratives’, Native North American ‘memoir,’ and
fraudulent Holocaust survivor ‘testimony,’ with each text providing decoded
evidence of ‘genre-bending’ exhibiting a social and political intent. These works
seek to be read as authentic personal narratives, as autobiography, and that is how
they have been presented to the reader. However, they are imposters – fictional tales
desiring the elevated status of historical authenticity and willing to bend the rules
and contracts of genre to achieve their end. Here the appearance of authenticity is
achieved through the use of cultural and social ‘myth,’ or perceptions of cultural
identity, and as such its fraudulent construction is first and foremost a social act,
with a social and economic motivation. As this thesis concludes, these texts are
most successful when their own political and social ideologies echo and confirm that
of the readership; when their subjects, the fraudulent ‘I’ at the center of the text is
also a performative elaboration of cultural belief
Growing occupation of professional writing in academic spaces: Combinations of theory and practice
The book chapter, "Growing occupation of professional writing in academic spaces: combinations of theory and practice" is written by the listed authors including Maureen Nicholson (Douglas College).Writing Centres, Writing Seminars, Writing Culture: Writing Instruction in Anglo-Canadian Universities brings together insights into the history of how writing has been taught in Canadian universities alongside profiles of how specific university academic units teach writing today. Engineering courses, writing centers, and writing programs are all represented, each one providing different models of how writing can be taught within their specific academic context. The editors' introduction, an essay surveying current practices throughout Canadian universities, and the Afterword by Russ Hunt suggest ways of making sense of the tangled garden that is the teaching of writing in Canadian universities. --From publisher description
Resonant Spaces: Electroacoustic Music and Ritual: A commentary on my recent music.
The following portfolio and commentary concerns music and performance works created between 2008 and 2012, and an exposition of the research, ideas, aesthetics and techniques that connect
these works. I will discuss in detail the role that archaeoacoustics has played in my composition of fixed and mixed media works and how it has influenced me aesthetically in my approach to live performance. I will also explain in each instance any actual data used from various research sources, and my metaphorical interpretation of various archaeological sites and acoustic phenomena. Similarly, I will discuss the concepts of shamanism, ritual and transcendence that have influenced me, and how these concepts are expressed in my instrumental works, fixed media and live performance pieces

Improved Program Planning Generates Large Benefits in High Risk Crop Farming – A Profitable Application of Time Series Models and Stochastic Optimization
Agricultural production relies to a great extent on biological processes in natural environments. In addition to volatile prices, it is thus heavily exposed to risks caused by the variability of natural conditions such as rainfall, temperature and pests. With a view to the apparently lacking support of risky farm production program decisions through formal planning models, the objective of this paper is to examine whether, and eventually by how much, farmers’ “intuitive” program decisions can be improved through formal statistical analyses and stochastic optimization models. In this performance comparison, we use the results of the formal planning approach that are generated in a quasi ex-ante analysis as a normative benchmark for the empirically observed ones. To avoid benchmark solutions that would possibly exceed the respective farmer’s risk tolerance, we limit the formal search to a subset of solutions that are second-degree stochastically dominant compared to the farmer’s own decision. We furthermore compare the suitability of different statistical (time series) models to forecast the uncertainty of single gross margins.stochastic optimization, program planning, time series analysis, Crop Production/Industries,

Lõputööks on äriplaan, bistroo avamiseks Ronyx Team OÜ restorani Old Trafford Narva näitel, toiduettevõtte süvaanalüüs äri avamiseks.
Autori eesmärk on alustada ettevõtlusega, mille esimeseks sammuks on äriplaani koostamine.
Äriplaanis on suur rõhk klientide, turu, konkurentsi, võimalike riskide analüüsil (teostatakse SWOT-analüüs).
Äriplaan sisaldab tegevus- ja finantsplaani. Finantsplaan on kirjeldatud finantsprognoosis..The following thesis Business Plan for Opening a Bistro on the Example of Ronyx Team OÜ Restaurant Old Trafford Narva is an in-depth analysis of the food company to open a business.
The main idea of the author is to open a food handling company with the production capacity to produce food to feed on a daily basis private and public institutions in the region, such as kindergartens, primary schools, secondary schools, vocational and higher education institutions, as well as large companies.
The author's aim is to start a business, the first step of which is to draw up a business plan.
The business plan describes the business idea, products, services, target audience and overall structure. The business plan sets objectives, missions, visions and action plans. It analyses the market, customers, competitors, legislation and financial situation.
The business plan is created to provide the entrepreneur with an adequate overview of what is needed to realise the idea and to give an overview to the parties involved - foundations, banks, investors, shareholders to be involved. A well thought-out and concrete business plan will help the start-up entrepreneur to plan thoroughly, get off to a fast start and grow rapidly.

The Australian Farm Institute held a conference in early May to discuss the effect of the Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme (CPRS) on agriculture. The Australian government had just announced changes to the proposed scheme so the conference was well timed. This is an edited summary of what the author said at the conference
Seafloor environments of the eastern Timor Sea, Northern Australia: Chlorophyll a,b,c and pheaophytin a concentrations in seabed sediments.
Maintenance and Update Frequency: asNeededStatement: Sediments were collected using either a Smith-McIntyre grab or a Shipek grab. For chlorophylls, 0.4 ml samples of surface sediment (0-0.5 cm) were syringed into plastic bags. The samples were wrapped in Al foil and frozen. Chlorophyll concentrations were calculated on sediment extracts (90% acetone + 0.1% MgCO3) at spectrophometric readings at wavelengths of 647, 630, 750 and 664 nm. For chlorophyll-a (Chl-a) and phaeophytin-a, wavelengths of 664 nm and 750 nm (before and after the addition of 200 -L-1 0.1 mol L-1 HCl per 2 mL extractant) and the equation derived by Lorenzen (1967) were used. Chlorphyll b and c concentrations were calculated according to equations provided by Jeffrey and Welschmeyer (2003). The reproducibility of the measurements is expected to be +/-10%. Lorenzen, C. J. Thanks to the crew of the RV Solander for help with sample collection. The Timor Sea and its tropical marine environment support significant and growing economic activity including oil and gas exploration. To reduce uncertainty in decision making regarding the sustainable use and ongoing protection of these marine resources, environmental managers and resource users require sound scientific information on the composition and stability of seabed environments and their biological assemblages. Surveys SOL4934 and SOL5117 to the eastern Joseph Bonaparte Gulf were undertaken in August and September 2009 and July and August 2010 respectively, in collaboration with the Australian Institute of Marine Science, with research collaborations from the RAN Australian Hydrographic Office, the Geological Survey of Canada and the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory. The purpose of these surveys were to develop biophysical maps, and deliver data and information products pertaining to complex seabed environment of the Van Diemen Rise and identify potential geohazards and unique, sensitive environments that relate to offshore infrastructure. This dataset comprises chlorophyll a,b, and c, and phaeophytin a concentrations in the upper 2cm of seafloor sediments.

Some relevant publications are listed below:

1.
