    The reaction of [RhCl2(Ph)(PPh3)2] with purine-6-thione (H2tp) in alcohol produced the title compound which consists of aggregates of [Rh(C6H5)(H1,H9 -H2-tp)2(PPh3)]2+ and [Rh(C6H5)(H1, H9-H2tp)(H9-Htp)- (PPh3)]+ cations held together by a N(1) - H···N-hydrogen bond assisted by weak C - H···S interactions from an unusual {H2tp···Htp}- base pair. The formation energy for the metal free base pair as computed through DFT methods is -27.912 kcal, larger than previously reported GC - Watson - Crick base-pairing energy

    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Metal complexes of the antiinflammatory drug piroxicam

    The synthesis and characterization of Fe(II), Co(II), Zn(II), and Cd(II) complexes with a potent antiinflammatory drug piroxicam [4-hydroxy-2-methyl-N-2-pyridyl-2H-1,2-benzothiazine-3-carboxamide 1,1-dioxide] are described. The crystal and molecular structures of M(Pir)2(DMF)2 (M = Cu, Cd; Pir = piroxicam; DMF = N,N-dimethylformamide) are also reported. Crystallographic data are as follows: Cd(Pir)2(DMF)2, monoclinic, P2(1)/c, a = 9.890 (2) angstrom, b = 8.076 (2) angstrom, c = 24.998 (4) angstrom, beta = 100.16 (2)degrees, Z = 2. The structure was refined to R(F(o)) = 0.039 for 2321 reflections with I > 3-sigma(I). Cu(Pir)2(DMF)2, monoclinic, P2(1)/c, a = 10.142 (2) angstrom, b = 7.855 (3) angstrom, c = 24.053 (4) angstrom, beta = 97.79 (2)degrees, Z = 2. The refinement yielded the final R(F(o)) of 0.059 for 797 reflections with I > 3-sigma(I). Both Cd(II) and Cu(II) ions bind to the piroxicam molecule through its amide O and pyridyl N atoms

    “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
