Extraction of nuclear matter properties from nuclear masses by a model of equation of state

    No full text
The extraction of nuclear matter properties from measured nuclear masses is investigated in the energy density functional formalism of nuclei. It is shown that the volume energy a, and the nuclear incompressibility K-0 depend essentially on mu N-n + <(<mu>)over bar>(p)Z - 2E(N), whereas the symmetry energy J and the density symmetry coefficient L as well as symmetry incompressibility K-s depend essentially on mu (n) - <(<mu>)over bar>(p), where <(<mu>)over bar>(p) = mu (p) - partial derivativeE(C)/partial derivativeZ, mu (n) and mu (p) are the neutron and proton chemical potentials respectively, EN the nuclear energy, and EC the Coulomb energy. The obtained symmetry energy is J = 28.5 MeV, while other coefficients are uncertain within ranges depending on the model of nuclear equation of state.Physics, MultidisciplinarySCI(E)0ARTICLE5583-5883

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Growth properties and critical current measurements of Sm1+xBa2-xCu3O7-delta films on biaxially textured Ni tapes

The growth properties and field dependent critical current densities of Sm1+xBa2-xCu3O7-delta (SBCO) films on biaxially textured Ni tapes with CeO2/YSZ/CeO2 buffer layers were investigated. The window of substrate temperature (T-s) for c-axis normal growth in 5 mTorr of oxygen pressure were wider than 150 degreesC. The upper limit of T-s-window was much higher than that of Y1Ba2Cu3O7-delta (YBCO) films. Around the lower limit of T-s, SBCO films grew in [103] normal textures. The zero field critical currents (J(c)) were similar to6 times smaller than those of YBCO films, while the estimated pinning energies were less dependent on external fields than that of YBCO. Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

Measurements and analyses of hysteretic field dependences of critical currents in bicrystalline Nd1Ba2Cu3O7 films

We measured the critical current densities (J(cb)) of grain boundaries (GB) in the bicrystalline Nd1Ba2Cu3O7 films Of several misorientation angles under various applied fields. J(cb)'s showed hysteresis curves as functions of fields. The main features of the data were qualitatively consistent with the calculation results. In the calculations, J(cb)'s were expressed as functions of the densities of Josephson vortices, which were estimated from the field distributions around GB. We calculated the field distributions using the Brandt's formula and expressed J(cb) by the modified Kim's model. (C) 2003 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved

Comparative studies on the growth conditions of CeO2 andY2O(3) buffer layers on NiW tapes

We comparatively studied the growth conditions of Y2O3 films and CeO2 films on biaxially textured Ni and NiW tapes. We found that the windows of both substrate temperatures and oxygen partial pressures for the proper growth of CeO2 films were wider than those of Y2O3 films. XRD data showed that the qualities of in-plane and out-of-plane textures of the two types of films were almost similar. The SEM observations indicated that the surface of the CeO2 films was smoother than those of Y2O3 films. The inferiority of CeO2 films to Y2O3 films was crack formation. However, we found that if YSZ over-layers were grown on the CeO2 films using dc-reactive sputtering, the cracks were not observed on the surface of the YSZ films anymore
