NON-LINEAR ADJUSTMENT PROCESS IN WON/DOLLAR AND WON/YEN REAL EXCHAGE RATES
We examine the purchasing power parity (PPP) hypothesis in won/dollar and won/yen real exchange rates using a non-linear framework. Many empirical studies based on the linear framework have failed to find clear supporting evidence for the validity of PPP hypothesis. We test the PPP hypothesis using a two-stage procedure suggested by Engle and Granger (1987), and show that it fails to reject non-cointegration. Evaluating the linear model against the nonlinear STAR model, we find that linearity is clearly rejected, but ESTAR process is accepted. Moreover, the parameter estimates of the ESTAR model establish a certain pattern of random walk behavior for small deviations and of fast adjustment for large deviations, thus providing strong evidence for mean-reverting behavior in real won/dollar and won/yen exchange rates.Purchasing Power Parity, Non-linear Adjustment Process, ESTAR Model

AbstractThe data included in this article are associated with the article entitled βDNA-damage-induced apoptosis suppressor (DDIAS) is upregulated via ERK5/MEF2B signaling and promotes Ξ²-catenin-mediated invasionβ (J.Y. Im, S.H. Yoon, B.K. Kim, H.S. Ban, K.J. Won, K.S. Chung, K.E. Jung, M. Won) [1]. Quantitative RT-PCR data revealed that genetic or pharmacological inhibition of extracellular signal-regulated kinase 5 (ERK5) suppresses DDIAS transcription in response to epidermal growth factor (EGF) in Hela cells. p300 did not interact with myocyte enhancer factor 2B (MEF2B), a downstream target of ERK5 and affect transcription of DDIAS. Moreover, DDIAS transcription is activated by ERK5/MEF2B signaling on EGF exposure in the non-small cell lung cancer cells (NSCLC) NCI-H1703 and NCI-H1299. DDIAS knockdown suppresses lung cancer cell invasion by decreasing Ξ²-catenin protein level on EGF exposure

Bio-inspired design of an aerial-terrestrial multi-modal robot
This thesis is about the design and performance of a multi-modal robot capable of aerial and terrestrial locomotion. Versatile multi-modal robots are favorable for their wide range of operational environments. Although several multi-modal robotic platforms have been built, their performances in two different modes are not balanced. We took the design principles from Pteromyini, commonly known as the flying squirrelβwhich shows balanced performances in both aerial and terrestrial locomotionβto create a novel robotic platform. The flexible membrane and gliding method of Pteromyini have been applied to the robot design for gliding performance. The legs of the robot were designed to perform with regulated motor torques in both walking and gliding. The robot glided with an average gliding ratio of 1.88 and controlled its angle-of-attack for slowing down to land safely. The robot walked utilizing different gait patterns and could change its direction with its high degrees-of-freedom legs while walking. The Effect of First Wave Mandatory XBRL Reporting across the Financial Information Environment
This study examines the effect of mandatory XBRL disclosure across various aspects of the financial information environment. Our findings show an increase in information efficiency, a decrease in event return volatility, and a reduction of change in stock returns volatility for 428 firms (1,536 10-K and 10-Q filings) post-XBRL disclosure. In addition, this study shows that XBRL mitigates information risk in the market, especially when there is increased uncertainty in the information environment. Our results are robust to various alternative specifications and research modifications, such as a matched-pair control (326 XBRL versus 326 non-XBRL firms), current stock market condition, potential earnings releases, and corporate governance.This study contributes to the literature by systematically documenting evidence of how mandatory XBRL disclosure decreases information risk and information asymmetry in both general and uncertain information environments. Our evidence could potentially assist the SEC in their effort to expeditiously assess the benefits of XBRL.Peer reviewe

μ (Dreaming of the Snipe / Meditation on a Snipe) and Hui-jin Kang\u27s 2011 μ λ Ή (The Ghost). Because of the war as many as ten million Koreans were displaced and separated from their families and they struggle with war trauma. Won-Chung Kim\u27s analysis of the two texts suggests the interconnectedness of life writing and the trauma of war. Further, as the recent surge of the North Korean defectors shows, the (im)migration of the Korean War diaspora and inter-Korean (im)migration is still an ongoing process. These (im)migrants\u27 life writing demonstrates that memory works in an opposite way for each group providing a lifeline through which the war diaspora sustains life while hindering the defectors in relocating themselves to the South successfully
