Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    Get PDF
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Uranium dioxide in Fe(III)-containing ionic liquids with DMSO: Dissolution, separation, and structural characterization

    No full text
UO2 can be successfully dissolved in imidazolium-based Fe(III)-containing ionic liquids (ILs) with the help of DMSO. Spectroscopic studies and X-ray diffraction show that UO2Cl42- is the principal product. The dissolved uranyl species can be easily separated from the ILs via a combination of crystallization and solvent extraction. Moreover, even if 15.2 wt% of the rare-earth elements of Sm, Eu, and Gd, compared with the total amount of uranium and the rare-earth elements, exist in the IL, only uranium -containing crystals would be selectively formed and separated from the system. The solvents of acetone and acetonitrile could be used to separate the rare-earth elements from uranium in the IL with the help of imidazolium chloride. Considering the complete process from the dissolution of UO2 and some rare-earth oxides to the separation of uranium and rare-earth elements in the IL, the facile approach is promising for the spent nuclear fuel reprocessing. Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

Fe-containing ionic liquids as effective and recoverable oxidants for dissolution of UO2 in the presence of imidazolium chlorides

Imidazolium-based Fe-containing ionic liquids (ILs) can directly dissolve UO2 in the presence of their corresponding imidazolium chlorides without additional oxidants. The dissolution process follows pseudo first-order kinetics initially. Raman spectroscopic studies indicate that FeCl42- is the predominant reduction product after UO2 dissolution, and attenuated total reflection-Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy indicates that the UO22+ complex is the principal product in the ILs. The dissolved uranyl species can be successfully separated from the Fe-containing ILs via a combination of centrifugation and solvent extraction, and also, the Fe-containing ILs can be recovered easily. In conclusion, imidazolium-based Fe-containing ionic liquids in the presence of imidazolium chlorides could be used as effective and recoverable oxidants for the dissolution of UO2.Chemistry, Inorganic & NuclearSCI(E)EIPubMed1ARTICLE238413-84194

In vivo click reaction between Tc-99m-labeled azadibenzocyclooctyne-MAMA and 2-nitroimidazole-azide for tumor hypoxia targeting

    No full text
The bioactivity of nitroimidazole in Tc-99m-labeled 2-nitroimidazole, a traditional solid tumor hypoxia-imaging agent for single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT), is reduced by the presence of large ligand and metallic radionuclide, exhibiting lower tumor-to-nontumor ratios. In an effort to solve this general problem, a pretargeting strategy based on click chemistry (strain-promoted cyclooctyne-azide cycloaddition) was applied. The functional click synthons were synthesized as pretargeting components: an azide group linked to 2-nitroimidazole (2NIM-Az) serves for tumor hypoxia- targeting and azadibenzocyclooctyne conjugated with monoamine monoamide dithiol ligand (AM) functions as radiolabeling and binding group to azides in vivo. 2NIM-triazole-MAMA was obtained from in vitro click reaction with a reaction rate constant of 0.98 M-1 s(-1). AM and 2NIM-triazole-MAMA were radiolabeled with Tc-99m. The hypoxia-pretargeting biodistribution was studied in Kunming mice bearing S180 tumor; Tc-99m-AM and Tc-99m-triazole-2NIM were used as blank control and conventional control. Compared to the control groups, the pretargeting experiment exhibits the best radio-uptake and retention in tumor, with higher tumor-to-muscle and tumor-to-blood ratios (up to 8.55 and 1.44 at 8 h post-Tc-99m-complex-injection, respectively). To some extent, the pretargeting strategy protects the bioactivity of nitroimidazole and therefore provides an innovative approach for the development of tumor hypoxia-SPECT imaging agents. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    Get PDF
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

Recent Advances on Radionuclide Labeled Hypoxia-Imaging Agents

    No full text
Hypoxic tissue exists in most of the solid tumors and hypoxia is a common character of these tumors. The existence of hypoxic tissue in the tumor decreases the efficacy of radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Radiolabeled hypoxia markers have been developed to measure the hypoxic tissue together with non-invasive imaging techniques such as PET, SPECT, and PET/CT. This offers a convenient approach to delineate the tumor providing useful information for diagnosing cancer and guiding the treatment plan. Bioreducible organic compounds have been developed as the hypoxia markers to probe tissue hypoxia noninvasively because they can be reduced and metabolized under hypoxic conditions; form adducts with cell components, and thus be trapped in the hypoxic tissue. These compounds include nitroimidazoles and other redox-sensitive compounds such as BnAO and ATSM. Different radionuclides have been used to label these compounds such as technetium-99m, iodine-123, fluorine-18, copper-64, etc. In addition, to detect hypoxia with endogenous hypoxia markers such as carbonic anhydrase IX (CA IX) and hypoxia-inducible factor-1 (HIF-1), some radiolabeled tracers have also been developed. This article is an overview of the progress in this area in the past decade including the development of radiolabeled compounds for hypoxia detection and problems associated with the hypoxia marker development.Pharmacology & PharmacySCI(E)PubMed6REVIEW81084-10971
