Data on safety and efficacy of second-line tuberculosis drugs in pregnant women and their infants are severely limited due to exclusion from clinical trials and expanded access programs.
Methods
Pregnant women starting treatment for multidrug/rifampicin-resistant (MDR/RR)-tuberculosis at King Dinuzulu Hospital in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, from 1 January 2013 to 31 December 2017, were included. We conducted a record review to describe maternal treatment and pregnancy outcomes, and a clinical assessment to describe infant outcomes.
Results
Of 108 pregnant women treated for MDR/RR-tuberculosis, 88 (81%) were living with human immunodeficiency virus.. Favorable MDR/RR-tuberculosis treatment outcomes were reported in 72 (67%) women. Ninety-nine (91%) of the 109 babies were born alive, but overall, 52 (48%) women had unfavorable pregnancy outcomes. Fifty-eight (54%) women received bedaquiline, and 49 (45%) babies were exposed to bedaquiline in utero. Low birth weight was reported in more babies exposed to bedaquiline compared to babies not exposed (45% vs 26%; P = .034). In multivariate analyses, bedaquiline and levofloxacin, drugs often used in combination, were both independently associated with increased risk of low birth weight. Of the 86 children evaluated at 12 months, 72 (84%) had favorable outcomes; 88% of babies exposed to bedaquiline were thriving and developing normally compared to 82% of the babies not exposed.
Conclusions
MDR/RR-tuberculosis treatment outcomes among pregnant women were comparable to nonpregnant women. Although more babies exposed to bedaquiline were of low birth weight, over 80% had gained weight and were developing normally at 1 year.Publisher’s versio

A Study on Abstractive Summarization Techniques in Indian Languages
AbstractNatural Language Processing is a vast area which has great importance when people started to interpret human language from one form to another. Summarization is one of the research works in NLP which concentrates on providing meaningful summary using various NLP tools and techniques. Since huge amount of information is used across the digital world, it is highly essential to have automatic summarization techniques. Extractive and Abstractive summarization are the two summarization techniques available. A lot of research works are being carried out in this area especially in extractive summarization. Even though more works are carried out using extractive method, meaningful summary can be attained using abstractive summary techniques which make it more complex. In Indian languages, very few works are carried out in the field of abstractive summarization and there is high need for having research works being carried out in this area. Here, we are concentrating on the various techniques available for abstractive summarization and also try to explain the limited works currently available in abstractive summary field of Indian languages
A Study on Byzantine Fault Tolerance Methods in Distributed Networks
AbstractWith the evolution of new technologies, the growing reliance on networks has increased immensely. Such an advancement induces malicious attacks and software errors to occur frequently. Building robust network services that can tolerate a wide range of failure types is a fundamental problem in distributed systems. The most fundamental approach, called Byzantine fault tolerance, helps mask arbitrary failures exhibited by failing nodes. Here, the problem of reliably broadcasting messages in a mutli hop network is dealt, where some nodes are likely to fail. Most of the existing solutions require high network connectivity and these requirements become difficult to satisfy when the network grows large. In this paper, a study on various Byzantine fault tolerant methods has been carried out which has been developed and implemented by research experts in this field. These solutions are particularly customized to adapt to sparsely connected networks
Sentiment Analysis: A Comparative Study on Different Approaches
AbstractSentiment analysis (SA) is an intellectual process of extricating user's feelings and emotions. It is one of the pursued field of Natural Language Processing (NLP). The evolution of Internet based applications has steered massive amount of personalized reviews for various related information on the Web. These reviews exist in different forms like social Medias, blogs, Wiki or forum websites. Both travelers and customers find the information in these reviews to be beneficial for their understanding and planning processes. The boom of search engines like Yahoo and Google has flooded users with copious amount of relevant reviews about specific destinations, which is still beyond human comprehension. Sentiment Analysis poses as a powerful tool for users to extract the needful information, as well as to aggregate the collective sentiments of the reviews. Several methods have come to the limelight in recent years for accomplishing this task. In this paper we compare the various techniques used for Sentiment Analysis by analyzing various methodologies
A Study on Deduplication Techniques over Encrypted Data
AbstractIn the current digital world, data is of prime importance for individuals as well as for organizations. As the amount of data being generated increases exponentially with time, duplicate data contents being stored cannot be tolerated. Thus, employing storage optimization techniques is an essential requirement to large storage areas like cloud storage. Deduplication is a one such storage optimization technique that avoids storing duplicate copies of data. Currently, to ensure security, data stored in cloud as well as other large storage areas are in an encrypted format and one problem with that is, we cannot apply deduplication technique over such an encrypted data. Thus, performing deduplication securely over the encrypted data in cloud appears to be a challenging task. Various methods that address this challenge are studied in this paper
A lipidomic approach to identify cold-induced changes in Arabidopsis membrane lipid composition
Lipidomic analysis using electrospray ionization triple quadrupole mass spectrometry can be employed to monitor lipid changes that occur during cold and freezing stress of plants. Mass spectral data are processed using the online capabilities of LipidomeDB Data Calculation Environment
Comparison of Definitions of Tantrayukti Mentioned by Neelamegha Bhishak and Arunadatta
Tantrayukti is one among the techniques used by Acharyas for understanding and interpreting scientific literature of Ayurveda. Tantrayukti is defined as a methodology that helps us to interpret scientific treatise correctly and intelligently and it enables us to set optimum standardization in the interpretation of scientific material and to minimize subjective variation in understanding the treatise. There are some controversies existing regarding the enumeration and definitions of Tantrayukti. Even though names of 36 Tantrayukti mentioned by Neelamegha Bhishak, the author of Tantrayuktivichara and Arunadatta, the commentator of Ashtanga Hridaya are almost similar, there is dissimilarity existing regarding the definitions of Tantrayukti. This study is intended to make an attempt to compare definition of Tantrayukti of Neelamegha Bhishak and Arunadatta
