Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Changes in lake percentage in the middle and lower Warta River Basin since 19 th century

Przeprowadzona analiza dotyczy dolnego i środkowego dorzecza Warty, stanowiącego około 10% kraju. Opracowano ją w oparciu o materiał kartograficzny (mapy topograficzne z końca XIX wieku oraz mapy topograficzne z końca XX wieku), w przedziale czasowym wynoszącym 110 lat. Uzyskane wyniki pokazują znaczny spadek zarówno wskaźnika jeziorności (o 10.7%), powierzchni jezior (o 10,8%) oraz liczby jezior (o 15,5%). Na podstawie analizy statystycznej ustalono, że największy związek występuje pomiędzy zanikiem powierzchni jezior a jeziorami najmniejszymi (1-5 ha).The present work touches upon the main problems of limnology: the disappearance of lakes, the pace at which this process occurs as well as its causes. It has analyzed the changes in lake density in the lower and middle Warta river basin. The hydrographic analysis of this area is particularly interesting – it focuses on inland stagnant waters owing to the postglacial character of the terrain (characterized by a large number of lakes) – the highest recorded water deficits in the country, and the economic advancement. The total lake area was calculated for the years 1890 and 2000, based on 1:25000 and 1:50000 scale topographic maps. They served as the basis for calculating changes which occurred in the course of 110 years. The following information was gathered on the basis of the maps from the earlier period: 2066 (100%) lakes with the area of 1 ha or more. The total lake area amounted to 62054.9 ha (100%). Lake density in the lower and middle Warta river basin at the end of the 19th century amounted to 1.78 (100%). The analysis of the data from the topographic maps edited at the end of the 20th century revealed the presence of 1744 (84.4%) lakes. The total lake area was 55365.5 ha (89.2%), while lake density totaled 1.59 (89.3%)
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. The lake-catchment systems of three Łęczna-Włodawa lakes with Cretaceous rocks in their catchment areas
Wydział Nauk Geograficznych i Geologicznych: Instytut Geografii Fizycznej i Kształtowania Środowiska PrzyrodniczegoGłównym celem rozprawy było wyjaśnienie złożonych procesów funkcjonowania układów zlewniowo-jeziornych trzech wybranych jezior łęczyńsko-włodawskich. Wyjaśnienie genezy procesów określających aktualny stan badanych układów zlewiowo-jeziornych, wymagało rozpoznania zarówno warunków zlewniowych jak i misowych. Badania prowadzono w latach hydrologicznych 2007-2009. Systematycznie rejestrowano parametry hydrologiczne wód powierzchniowych i podziemnych, cech atmosfery, litosfery, pedosfery oraz antroposfery. W pracy po raz pierwszy zestawiono równania bilansowe dla mis jezior Sumin, Rotcze i Syczyńskiego. Zrekonstruowano stopień wypełnienia mis w oparciu o plany batymetryczne z dwóch różnych okresów oraz przeanalizowano zmienność sezonową parametrów fizykochemicznych.We wszystkich zlewniach można było wyróżnić hydrogeologiczną dwudzielność. W części wierzchowinowo-stokowej, dominował warstwowo-szczelinowy sposób krążenia wód, natomiast w przyjeziernej części równinnej ruch wody był utrudniony, poprzez znaczne powierzchnie utworów słabo przepuszczalnych.Wszystkie badane zlewnie cechował podobny, reżim odpływu, z roztopowym maksimum wiosennym i drugim okresem zwiększonych przepływów po opadach letnich. Jeziora Rotcze i Sumin to akweny o wartościach odpływu typowych dla zlewni poleskich, natomiast Jezioro Syczyńskie miało parametry odpływu wód wyraźnie wyższe. Czas wymiany wody badanych jezior był także zróżnicowany. Najwolniej proces ten zachodził w największym jeziorze Sumin, najszybciej zaś wody wymieniały się w Jeziorze Syczyńskim.The main aim of the study was to explain multidirectional processes of lake-catchment system of chosen lakes. The subject was meaningful, taking into consideration that there are very few strictly hydrological papers concerning Łęczna-Włodawa Lakes. Territorial research was done during three water years 2007-2009.A condition of natural environment results mostly from human activity. The diverse methods were used to present complex relations among atmosphere, lithosphere, biosphere and anthroposphere. Hydrological, meteorological, lithosphere, pedosphere and anthroposphere parameters were observed continuously. A role of the factors that shape both qualitative and quantitative features of the three catchment areas was estimated using a comparative analysis. The functioning of catchments under study was determined by an interaction of hydrological (water budget, the pace of water exchange), hydrochemical (potential mineralization), and ecological processes. Water budget equations of lakes Sumin, Rotcze and Syczyńskie basins has been presented for the first time in this thesis. All the catchment areas under study were dual in terms of geological structure and relief. In the upper, eastern part of the catchment areas, water circulation was characteristic for fractured-porous mediums, while in the lower parts a pace of seepage was very low due to impervious rocks presence. A flow rate measured in catchments of lakes Rotcze and Sumin was typical of Polesie region, while in Syczyńskie the value of flow rate was significantly higher, similar to those observed in the Lublin Upland catchment
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more

Anthropogenic impact on bacterioplankton and autotrophic picoplankton in Strzeszyńskie Lake
Wydział BiologiiGłównym celem rozprawy było poznanie dynamiki zmian bakterioplanktonu (BP) oraz autotroficznego pikoplanktonu (APP) na tle wybranych czynników środowiskowych w zmieniającym się pod wpływem antropopresji Jeziorze Strzeszyńskim. W związku z postępująca eutrofizacją wód, jezioro to od roku 2012 poddawane jest zabiegom rekultywacyjnym. Próbki wody z jeziora do analiz BP, APP i biogenów pobierano z głęboczka północnego co miesiąc, od marca do listopada 2012 roku. Ponadto w każdym miesiącu tego roku pobierano próbki wody na dopływie do jeziora - Rowie Złotnickim oraz z jeziora w pobliżu kąpieliska. Analizy mikroskopowe BP i APP (liczebność, biomasa, zróżnicowanie morfologiczne) wykonano za pomocą mikroskopu Olympus BX-60 z wyposażeniem do epifluorescencji. Uzyskane wyniki badań terenowych, laboratoryjnych i prac kameralnych pozwoliły na zweryfikowanie postawionych hipotez. Stwierdzono, że liczebność BP zmieniała się istotnie w ciągu roku, natomiast w kolumnie wody zmieniała się istotnie biomasa BP. W przypadku APP sezonowe zmiany liczebności były istotne, z dwoma szczytami: wiosną i latem. Oszacowane roczne ładunki azotu i fosforu przekroczyły wartości dopuszczalne, a nawet niebezpieczne wg kryteriów Vollenweidera. Wody Rowu Złotnickiego wnosiły do jeziora zagrażające jakości jego wód ładunki biogenów oraz bakterii z grupy coli. Istotny wpływ miała na to zmiana zagospodarowania zlewni jeziora – stwierdzono dwukrotny wzrost udziału terenów zabudowanych. Pod względem wskaźnika TSI jezioro zaklasyfikowano do wód mezo-eutroficznych, natomiast liczebność BP wskazywała na eutroficzny charakter zbiornika.The main purpose of the dissertation was to investigate the dynamics of changes in bacterioplankton (BP) and autotrophic picoplankton (APP) concentrations when compared to selected environmental factors in Strzeszyńskie Lake, which changes due to anthropogenic activities. Since 2012, due to progressive eutrophication of the lake, the restoration programme has been launched. In order to analyze the concentration of BP, APP and nutrients, sampling was carried out in monthly intervals in 2012, in the northern basin of the lake. In addition, water samples were collected in Rów Złotnicki, the tributary of the lake, and near the lake’s bathing water area. The microscopic analysis of BP and APP (abundance, biomass, morphological diversity) was performed using an Olympus microscope BX-60 equipped with epifluorescence imaging. It was found that BP abundance changed significantly throughout the year, whereas BP biomass changed significantly in the water column. As regards APP abundance, a considerable seasonal change was observed with two peaks in spring and summer. The estimated annual nitrogen and phosphorus loading exceeded the permissible levels, or, according to Vollenweider's criteria, the concentration was even above the dangerous levels. The water of Rów Złotnicki which flows into the lake contributes to nitrogen, phosphorus and coliforms bacteria concentrations that pose risk to lake water quality. When interpreted according to the trophic state index, the lake was classified as being meso-eutrophic, whereas BP abundance points to the eutrophic class of the water body

We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
