    Guided Super Resolution of Land Surface Temperature Using Multisatellite Imageries

    As understanding and monitoring global warming and heatwaves have become increasingly important, the demand for higher spatial and temporal resolution in satellite-observed land surface temperature (LST) data has risen. LST derived from geostationary satellite observations plays a crucial role in temperature monitoring, offering high temporal resolution across wide areas. However, a primary limitation of geostationary satellite-derived LST products is their low spatial resolution. In this study, we aim to overcome this limitation by employing a deep learning-based super-resolution (SR) approach and propose a model called References and residual in residual blocks to perform SR Network (3R-Net). This model incorporates terrain-guided reference images and residual blocks to enable more accurate SR. By using LST products from GEO-KOMPSAT-2A (GK2A) as low-resolution (LR) input, visible channel imagery from GEO-KOMPSAT-2B (GK2B) as terrain-reflective high-resolution (HR) reference, and Landsat-8 LST products as HR target images, our model effectively enhances the 2 km resolution of GK2A LST products to the 500 m resolution of Landsat-8 with improved spatial detail and accuracy. Unlike many previous studies relying on single-image SR with synthetically downsampled inputs, our approach uses real-world LR inputs, HR targets, and reference images, making the learning process more realistic and practical. Experimental results show that, when clear guidance is provided through reference images, 3R-Net surpasses existing SR methods, achieving higher peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR), structural similarity index measure (SSIM), and lower root mean square error (RMSE) while capturing critical spatial and temporal features, including surface characteristics and daily heating patterns. By integrating residual-in-residual (RIR) blocks, our model achieves a simple yet powerful enhancement in capturing fine-grained spatial and temporal patterns. These advancements suggest that 3R-Net can provide enhanced LST data crucial for climate research, environmental monitoring, and early warning systems.

    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed.     Variations on the Author

    “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

    We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used

    학위논문(석사) -- 서울대학교 대학원 : 의과대학 의과학과, 2022. 2. 김동현.The contribution of host genetic variants and other environmental changes have been implicated in the pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). A variety of studies have shown that shifts in gut microbiome (dysbiosis) which is one of the major environmental factors contributes to increasing IBD susceptibility. Nuclear factor of activated T cells 5 (NFAT5), a critical component of the osmotic-stress response, was reported that the expression of NFAT5 in intestinal tissue biopsies from IBD patients is significantly reduced, however, the role of NFAT5 in the intestine remains to be explored. In this study, Nfat5 deficient mice and dextran sodium sulfate-induced colitis murine model were used to verify the effect of Nfat5 in colitis. In results, Nfat5 deficiency accelerated colitis and downregulated expression of intestinal barrier-related genes, mucin2, and tight junction proteins, zonula occludens-1 and occludin, with increased intestinal permeability. Especially, 16S rRNA gene-sequencing showed that Nfat5 deficiency changed gut microbial configuration causing colitis severity. I found that this dysbiosis was mediated by the diminished expression of antimicrobial peptides (AMPs). Indeed, the depletion of Nfat5 reduces Paneth cells and stem cells that reside in the small intestinal epithelium and consequently decreased the expression of AMPs. The results from this study will provide insight into the role of gut microbiota modulated by Nfat5 in the development of colitis.만성 염증성 장 질환은 유전적 소인과 여러 외부 환경적인 요인에 의해 발병된다고 알려져 있다. 다양한 연구에서 주요 환경 요인 중 장내 마이크로바이옴의 변화 (dysbiosis)가 염증성 장 질환 환자들의 질환 발병과 연관이 있음이 밝혀졌다. Nuclear factor of activated T cells 5는 세포의 삼투압 스트레스 반응의 중요한 구성요소로써, IBD 환자의 장에서 낮아진 발현이 보고되었지만 장에서의 그 역할은 잘 알려져 있지 않다. 본 연구에서 Nfat5 결핍 마우스와 대장염 마우스 모델을 사용하여 Nfat5의 대장염에서의 역할에 대해 살펴보았다. 그 결과, Nfat5의 결여는 대장염 발병을 촉진하고, 장 장벽 기능 관련 유전자인 muc2, 밀착 연접 단백질 ZO-1 및 occludin의 발현을 감소시키며 장 투과성을 증가시켰다. 특히, 16S rRNA 염기서열분석법을 통해 Nfat5의 결여가 장내 미생물 구성을 변화시켰고, 대장염이 유발됨을 알 수 있었다. 또한 항균 펩타이드 발현의 감소가 dysbiosis와 관련될 가능성을 확인했다. 뿐만 아니라, Nfat5의 손실은 소장 상피세포인, 파네스 세포와 장 줄기세포 감소에 영향을 미치고 결과적으로 줄어든 항균 펩타이드의 발현과 연관이 있음을 확인하였다. 따라서, 본 연구의 결과는 Nfat5가 장내 미생물 균 총의 조절을 통해서 대장염 발병에 영향을 미칠 수 있다는 것을 밝혔다.Abstract ⅳ Table of Contents ⅴ List of Tables and Figures ⅵ Introduction 1 Materials and Methods 6 Results 15 Discussion 49 References 57 Abstract in Korean 65석
