    Perceived instability of virtual haptic texture. II. Effect of collision-detection algorithm

    This article reports the second study in a series that investigates perceived instability-unrealistic sensations associated with virtual objects-of virtual haptic texture. Our first study quantified the maximum stiffness values under which virtual haptic textures were perceived to be stable (Choi & Tan, 2004). The present study investigated the effect of the collision-detection algorithm by removing the step changes in force magnitude that could have contributed to perceived instability in the first study. Our results demonstrate a significant increase in the maximum stiffness for stable haptic texture rendering. We also report a new type of perceived instability, aliveness, that is characterized by a pulsating sensation. We discuss the possible cause of aliveness and show that it is not always associated with control instability. Our results underscore the important roles played by environment modeling and human haptic perception, as well as control stability, in ensuring a perceptually stable virtual haptic environment.X1118sciescopu

DISCUSSION 13 REFERENCES 18 국문요약 24MasterBackground: The covered self expanding metal stent (SEMS) has become the main treatment option of malignant esophageal obstruction. However, the fully covered SEMS has not been as popular as the partially covered one for the fear of migration in spite of much advantage. So, we performed a prospective study to evaluate clinical efficacy of the fully covered SEMS. Methods: Between October 1998 and February 2009, 100 consecutive patients with malignant esophageal obstruction who were treated with the fully covered Niti-S stent (Niti-S, Taewoong Medical, Seoul, Korea) were included. Data collected contained technical success rate of deployment and retrieval, dysphagia score changes, success rate of esophagorespiratory fistula (ERF) resolution, survival, stent patency and complications. We also conducted analyses concerning the associations between results and variables. Result: Technical success rate of stent deployment was 100%. Dysphagia score was improved significantly from a mean of 3.1±0.8 to 1.3±0.7 (p=0.000) and 13 of 14 patients(14/100,14%) with ERF were resolved successfully with the initial stent(13/14, 92.9%). Median survival and stent patency was 74(51~97) and 54(47~67) days respectively. Recurrent dysphagia occurred in 19 patients (19/100,19%) with tumor ingrowth (2/100,2%), tumor overgrowth(7/100,7%), stent migration(6/100,6%), and food impaction(4/100,4%). Among other complications, early(≤7days) complications were chest pain (12/100, 12%), regurgitation (2/100 2%), tracheal compression (1/100, 1%) and late(>7days) ones were bleeding (2/100, 2%), persistent chest pain (2/100, 2%), and GERD (7/100, 7%). Reintervention had to be done in 19 patients (19/100,19%). Among them, endoscopic stent retrieval and replacement was done in 17 patients (17%) with 100% success rate and additional stents were inserted for the remaining two patients. There was no stent related mortality or 30 day mortality. In our analyses, there was no significant variable associated with clinical outcomes and complications. Conclusions: The fully covered Niti-S metal stent has proved its effectiveness in palliation of malignant dysphagia and safety of endoscopic retrieval with a comparably low migration rate maintaining its good advantage of lower incidence of tumor ingrowth and overgrowth. As she wrote, she developed her position as a recognized and award winning author into that of a literary mediator for socially marginalized subjects, actively working to represent certain conditions of exclusion due to social, racial, economic, and sexual factors during the 1970's and 1980's.     Both theatrical performance and theoretical study, the realm of present-day Korea Dance show a marked trend toward quantitative and qualitive increment. But the epoch of shinmuyong, a historical upheaval under the Japanese rule has been be negligent to this day. Accordingly, Choi, Seong Hee has neglectedin estimation about her , even she was the pioneer of Shinmuyong and Pre-eminent dancer over our country during that time. That reason is that a natinal humilitation by colonialization was mixed up a special political situation. The intention of this research, the proper understanding of the current of our dance hisory, especially in the 1930s, through study of Choi, Seong Hee who was the symbol of that date. First of all, the concept and the peculiarity of Shinmu-yong were refered. The study of the life, work, and view of art of Choi, Seong Hee was also given. Based upon these consideration, I want to go deep into the study of correlation about the Shinmuyong and the Modern Dance of Korea. The results were as follows. In affirmative points, Choi as a matchless dancer during the epoch of Shinmuyong builds up new dance style, which was a compromise between Western style and Korean hue. On the other hand, in negative points, she made fall into confusion Dance native to Korea in the beginning of development on the stage by her superficial view of traditional aesthetics and partial appropriation of convential dance techniques. In all sense, Choi, Seong Hee had agre at influence on Shinmuyong. Such as pecial condition of Modern Dance was connected continuously by the Shinmuyong of Korea.     Generalized Choi&ndash;Davis&ndash;Jensen&rsquo;s Operator Inequalities and Their Applications

    The original Choi&ndash;Davis&ndash;Jensen&rsquo;s inequality, known for its extensive applications in various scientific and engineering fields, has inspired researchers to pursue its generalizations. In this study, we extend the Choi&ndash;Davis&ndash;Jensen&rsquo;s inequality by introducing a nonlinear map instead of a normalized linear map and generalize the concept of operator convex functions to include any continuous function defined within a compact region. Notably, operators can be matrices with structural symmetry, enhancing the scope and applicability of our results. The Stone&ndash;Weierstrass theorem and the Kantorovich function play crucial roles in the formulation and proof of these generalized Choi&ndash;Davis&ndash;Jensen&rsquo;s inequalities. Furthermore, we demonstrate an application of this generalized inequality in the context of statistical physics
