    Phillip Herring (1936- ) is a scholar and biographer, who taught English at the University of Wisconsin at Madison for over twenty five years. He attended the University of Texas at Austin, where he was awarded a Ph.D. in 1966, and later worked at the Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center. Herring is the author of Joyce's Uncertainty Principle (1987), Djuna: the Life and Work of Djuna Barnes (1995), and is the co-editor of Djuna Barnes's Collected Poems: With Notes Towards the Memoirs (2005). His papers consist of correspondence, photographs, and other materials accumulated during the writing of his Barnes biography. Subjects include Djuna Barnes, her family and friends, and locations relating to Barnes's life

The manuscript gives biographical information on Philip Gillett, a Springfield College graduate of 1901, a timeline of his life, and a listing of the materials he used in his research. The document was created for a class assignment for the Heritage and Value of Sport class given at Springfield College.Philip Loring Gillett graduated from Colorado College in 1891 and went on to attend Yale Divinity School. After graduating from Springfield College, he was hired as the general secretary for the YMCA’s International Committee for Korea, where he is widely credited with introducing baseball and basketball. Gillett continued to serve in this capacity in Shanghai, China (1913-1915), Nanking, China (1915-1930), and Taiwan (1931-1932). On October 21, 1932, he retired. Gillett died November 26, 1938

    Code optimization for the Choi-Williams distribution for ELINT applications

    This thesis investigates optimizing the speed of computation for computing the Choi-Williams distribution. The Choi-Williams distribution is a way of simultaneously representing a signal in both the time and frequency domains in a fashion that makes it possible to extract the waveform parameters of the signal. The Choi-Williams distribution is particularly useful for analyzing low probability of intercept signals for electronic intelligence applications. The usefulness of the distribution is directly correlated to the speed of computation. This thesis examines methods in which the Choi-Williams distribution can be modified to increase the speed of computation while still maintaining its ability to provide a clear picture of the signal characteristics. By eliminating the computation of near zero terms of the Choi-Williams kernel function, the speed of computation can be increased dramatically while still preserving, and improving, the time-frequency characteristics. The optimizations developed in this thesis reduced the time to compute a 512 sample CWD from 6.9 seconds, to 0.0466 seconds on an Intel chip, Linux based PC-an increase in speed of 147X.US Marine Corps (USMC) author.http://archive.org/details/codeoptimization10945442

    This thesis documents the use of the SRC-6 Reconfigurable Computer for use in analyzing low probability of intercept (LPI) signals using the Choi-Williams distribution. The SRC-6 is a reconfigurable computer manufactured by SRC Computers, Inc. which allows the user to tailor both the software and the hardware to a specific task. This increases the speed at which the task can be accomplished making it useful for applications in electronic intelligence (ELINT). The Choi-Williams distribution is a mathematical technique that was first created using MATLAB and then converted to C code for use on the SRC-6. The purpose of this study is to investigate the feasibility of using a reconfigurable computer for ELINT applications and the timely detection and classification of LPI signals.
