European Sharing and Collaborative Cities: The Italian Way

    No full text
The article analyses the issue of Sharing and Collaborative Cities from a primarily methodological perspective. Starting from statistical data that confirm the constant growth of the urban population, and taking into account the major issues that affect urban policies (environment, inequalities, poverty), the author focuses on the different methodological approaches in the study of collaborative cities. Subsequently, an Italian case study is presented, which involves shared administration and the main implementation tools involved (Regulation of the management and regeneration of urban commons, including collaboration agreements)

The author consider the problem of recostructing a periodic function when only an approximation of the sequence of its Fourier coefficients is known. A proposed method of regularization is tested from the qualitative point of view

Quality Improvement Project to Improve Hand Hygiene Compliance in a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

    No full text
This quality improvement project aimed to improve hand hygiene (HH) compliance in a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The project was conducted over three Plan–Do–Study–Act (PDSA) cycles, with each cycle lasting two months. The interventions included healthcare worker (HCW) education on HH, repetition of education, and immediate feedback to HCWs. Compliance data were collected through covert observations of HCWs in the NICU. The overall compliance rate increased from 31.56% at baseline to 46.64% after the third PDSA cycle. The HH compliance was noted to be relatively low after touching patient care surroundings, at entry and exit from the NICU main unit, before wearing gloves and after removing gloves, at baseline and throughout the three PDSA cycles. HCW education alone did not result in significant improvements, highlighting the need for additional interventions. The study underscores the importance of involving NICU leadership and providing immediate feedback to promote HH compliance. Further efforts should focus on addressing the false sense of security associated with glove usage among HCWs, individual rewards and involving the healthcare staff in the shared goal of increasing HH compliance. Consideration of workload metrics and their impact on compliance could steer future interventions

EFFECTS OF ADDING PET FLAKES TO CONCRETE BLOCKS

Abstract: Plastic, being one of the common material in our daily activities and we couldn't imagine a day without it. plastic contributes to major pollution as it involves many components like PELD,PELLD,PEHD,PP, ,PET and many other .major plastic pollution is due to single use plastic which is either trashed or crushed . Single use plastic involves many kinds of polymers out of which PET (Polyethylene terephthalate) is major with an average of 6.8% of total plastic pollution. This study involves determining the mechanical properties of concrete blocks added with PET flakes. It was observed that an optimum cracking and crushing strength of 7.2Mpa and 7.78 Mpa respectively at a proportion of 1:4(plastic: cement). An optimum flexural strength of 2.1 MPa was observed at a proportion of 1:2 ( plastic: cement) and it was observed that the dry density of pet flakes added concrete blocks decreases as the weight of the plastic added to the block increases . Keywords: Cracking strength, Crushing strength, Flexural strength, PELD, PET. Author Correction: 3D measurement techniques for the hindfoot alignment angle from weight-bearing CT in a clinical population

    No full text
Cone-beam CT (CBCT) scans now enable accurate measurements on foot skeletal structures with the advantage of observing these in 3D and in weight-bearing. Among the most common skeletal deformities, the varus/valgus of the hindfoot is the most complex to be represented, and a number of measure proposals have been published. This study aims to analyze and to compare these measurements from CBCT scans in a real clinical population with large such deformity. Ten patients with severe acquired adult fatfoot and indication for surgery underwent CBCT scans (Carestream, USA) while standing on that leg, before and after surgical correction. Corresponding 3D shape of each bone of the distal shank and hindfoot were defned (Materialise, Belgium). Six diferent techniques from the literature were used to calculate the varus/valgus deformity, i.e. the inclination of the hindfoot in the frontal plane of the shank. Standard clinical measurements by goniometers were taken for comparison. According to these techniques, and starting from a careful 3D reconstruction of the relevant foot skeletal structures, a large spectrum of measurements was found to represent the same hindfoot alignment angle. Most of them were very diferent from the traditional clinical measures. The assessment of the pre-operative valgus deformity and of the corresponding post-operative correction varied considerably. CBCT fnally allows 3D assessment of foot deformities in weight-bearing. Measurements from the diferent available techniques do not compare well, as they are based on very diferent approaches. It is recommended to be aware of the anatomical and functional concepts behind these techniques before clinical and surgical conclusions

This work presents the planning, development and execution of an Astronomy Club whose target audience were high school students in a private school located in the city of Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul. The objective of this work was to investigate the use of Literature as an instrument of reflection and transformation of society through the analysis of two of the most important works of Lygia Bojunga Nunes: "A Bolsa Amarela" (1976) and "A Casa da Madrinha" (1978). The methodology used throughout this work was the analysis of the resources used by the author to produce effects of complaint and reflection on the social reality on the narratives. It was possible to conclude, as a result, that the literary work, as fiction, besides being pleasant, it can provide the readers with answers about society and themselves. It's on this context that the works of the gaucha author Lygia Bojunga Nunes fit, considering that her stories, besides being able to arouse emotions and feelings, which are necessary to the process of character building, are also source of criticism she redirects to the society. Lygia Bojunga Nunes, through her works full of reality and fantasy, reaches the social objective of literature remarkably, for besides being filled with rich symbolic language to attract the interest in reading, it gives the readers the possibility to exercise thinking concerning their role inside society
