Si tratta di tre lavori che, nella loro diversità, forniscono una serie di interessanti chiavi di lettura dell’architettura montana carnica attraverso un’analisi scrupolosa della letteratura e l’osservazione diretta delle costruzioni.
Il primo saggio è sulle case rurali della Val Pesarina (Luciano di Sopra), il secondo è dedicato alle case di Forni di Sopra (Gilberto Marzano), mentre il terzo analizza le tipologie delle case rurali del tarvisiano (Francesco Chinellato)
State, parameters and hidden dynamics estimation with the Deep Kalman Filter: Regularization strategies
No full textIn this paper we present in detail the various regularization strategies adopted for a novel scientific machine learning extension of the well known Kalman Filter (KF) that we call the Deep Kalman Filter (DKF), briefly presented in the conference paper (Chinellato and Marcuzzi 2024) . It is based on a recent scientific machine learning paradigm, called algorithm unfolding/unrolling, that allows to create a neural network from the algebraic structure dictated by an analytical method of scientific computing. We show the interpretable consistency of DKF with the classic KF when this is optimal, and its improvements against the KF with both linear and nonlinear models in general. Indeed, the DKF learns parameters of a quite general reference model, comprising: corrector gains, predictor model parameters and eventual unmodeled dynamics. This goes well beyond the ability of the KF and its known extensions
Enacting the Traces of Change: Urban Artistic Practices as Memory Work in the Historic City
No full textThe purpose of this chapter is to propose a critical examination of the rationale and modes of intervention employed by urban artistic practices. The aim is to illuminate their role in influencing the transformations occurring within historic cities. To this purpose, I will analyze the temporary art-work Loro-Them (Milan, 2019) by artist Krzysztof Wodiczko. I will illustrate how the interpretative stance of the artistic practice connects with memory work when it addresses socio-spatial challenges and processes of change in and of the historic urban context
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
