Developmental Characterization of Cara Mitad: A Drosophila Nuclear Receptor Co-Regulator
In insects and vertebrates, hormone titers drive cellular proliferation and differentiation events that guide proper development. Nuclear receptors (NR) respond to these hormone signals by activating cascades of gene expression, along with coregulator protein complexes. In Drosophila melanogaster, fluctuating titers of the steroid hormone ecdysone are responsible for coordinating the timing of organismal development. Despite major advances in our understanding of Drosophila NR activities, we lack essential knowledge of the coregulators that are required for their proper function.
We have recently identified the Drosophila cara mitad (cmi) (`dear half\u27) gene. The deduced CMI protein is closely related to the N-terminal half of the ALR-1/MLL-2 vertebrate NR coactivator that functions in several hormone regulated response pathways. The Drosophila TRR protein is an ortholog of the ALR-1 C-terminus that encodes a histone methyltransferase required for hormone-stimulated transcription. The evolutionary split of ALR-1 raises interesting questions regarding the conserved functions of each `half\u27.
We have shown that CMI serves as an essential coactivator of the hormone response pathway using genetic, molecular and biochemical tools. Genetic studies using cmi mutants, RNA-mediated gene silencing and over-expression of the wild type gene revealed that cmi is essential throughout development. Loss of function phenotypes include early lethality and morphological defects consistent with reduced hormone signaling. Over-expression of cmi revealed a variety of phenotypes in different tissues, suggesting widespread roles for cmi in body patterning. Biochemical experiments have shown that CMI can act directly in concert with hormone response regulators.
The BMP/TGFβ signaling pathway is highly conserved among higher eukaryotes and is essential for various cellular processes. In Drosophila, the DPP (TGFβ) signaling pathway is used to control many aspects of hormone regulated development. Our study revealed an important role of CMI in wing patterning through the regulation of dpp transcription. This regulation of dpp happens through both the 3\u27 regulatory region at the larval stage and the 5\u27regulatory region at the pupal stage by a novel mechanism of dpp transcriptional regulation. Our study is the first one to describe the role of TRR in wing patterning. This function of TRR is synergistic with CMI and is likely through the DPP signaling pathway. The results from this study open new avenues to study the mechanisms involved in dpp transcription and DPP signaling. It also opens avenues to explore the DPP signaling pathway in wing patterning and in the patterning of other tissues where DPP signal is known to play a critical role.

Semantic pattern discovery in open information extraction
Open information extraction (OpenIE) is a novel paradigm that produces structured information from unstructured text with minimum or no supervision. The task involves extracting relevant relation tuples or expressions from a text corpus. Existing methods in the domain tend to produce a large percentage of ill-structured, incomplete or redundant extractions which cannot be directly used in downstream applications, and often fail on sentences with long and complex structures. In this paper, we propose a novel semantic pattern-discovery for OpenIE (SemPatIE) framework which extracts relations in the form of typed textual pattern structures, called meta patterns and groups semantically similar pattern structures. To perform these tasks, the framework uses three techniques: (1) it simplifies complex sentence structures by performing a context-aware sentence segmentation method which splits the dependency graph of sentences at noun or verb level and enables pattern extraction between distantly placed entities; (2) it extracts meta patterns and handles its pattern sparsity problem by introducing a novel idea of iterative frequent pattern mining and nested push-ups; (3) it generates semantic pattern clusters by embedding a multi text-based network between entities, entity types, extracted meta patterns and context words. Experiments show SemPatIE outperforms state-of-the-art OpenIE baselines in handling structurally complex sentences and has a significantly higher recall than existing pattern-based methods. Studies on Phytochemical investigation of Medicinal Plant Mesua Ferrea
Abstract: The methanolic extracts of leaves and flowers of Mesua Ferrea have exhibited significant broad spectrum antimicrobial activity. Further work is being carried out to isolate and identify the active constituents of the plant responsible for antimicrobial activity. The purpose of our research was methanolic extract of the plant was qualitatively investigated for phytochemicals using standard procedures which revealed the presence of various important bioactive chemical entities.

Ethics of AI in Pathology: Current Paradigms and Emerging Issues
Deep learning has rapidly advanced artificial intelligence (AI) and algorithmic decision-making (ADM) paradigms, affecting many traditional fields of medicine, including pathology, which is a heavily data-centric specialty of medicine. The structured nature of pathology data repositories makes it highly attractive to AI researchers to train deep learning models to improve health care delivery. Additionally, there are enormous financial incentives driving adoption of AI and ADM due to promise of increased efficiency of the health care delivery process. AI, if used unethically, may exacerbate existing inequities of health care, especially if not implemented correctly. There is an urgent need to harness the vast power of AI in an ethically and morally justifiable manner. This review explores the key issues involving AI ethics in pathology. Issues related to ethical design of pathology AI studies and the potential risks associated with implementation of AI and ADM within the pathology workflow are discussed. Three key foundational principles of ethical AI: transparency, accountability, and governance, are described in the context of pathology. The future practice of pathology must be guided by these principles. Pathologists should be aware of the potential of AI to deliver superlative health care and the ethical pitfalls associated with it. Finally, pathologists must have a seat at the table to drive future implementation of ethical AI in the practice of pathology
Response of Strawberry plant (Fragaria ananassa Duch.) to inoculation with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi and Trichoderma viride
The present paper represents the positive role of Arbuscular Mycorrhizal (AM) fungi as biofertilizers in strawberry. Experiments were carried out to assess the effectiveness of Trichoderma viride and AM fungi (Glomus mosseae and Acaulospora laevis) alone or in combination, on the growth and biomass production of strawberry. After 120 days, dual inoculation of A. laevis + T. viride showed maximum increase in plant height (30.5±0.3), fresh shoot weight (10.16±0.20), dry shoot weight (2.82±0.02), fresh root weight (6.70±0.10), total chlorophyll (0.841±0.05) and phosphorus content in root (1.13±0.02) as compared to control. However root colonization and AM spore number were maximum in G. mosseae + A. lavies (90.76±1.32) and in G. mosseae (211.16±2.56) respectively as compared to uninoculated plants.
