Environmental toxicity, redox signaling and lung inflammation:the role of glutathione

    No full text
Glutathione (gamma-glutamyl-cysteinyl-glycine, GSH) is the most abundant intracellular antioxidant thiol and is central to redox defense during oxidative stress. GSH metabolism is tightly regulated and has been implicated in redox signaling and also in protection against environmental oxidant-mediated injury. Changes in the ratio of the reduced and disulfide form (GSH/GSSG) can affect signaling pathways that participate in a broad array of physiological responses from cell proliferation, autophagy and apoptosis to gene expression that involve H(2)O(2) as a second messenger. Oxidative stress due to oxidant/antioxidant imbalance and also due to environmental oxidants is an important component during inflammation and respiratory diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, acute respiratory distress syndrome, and asthma. It is known to activate multiple stress kinase pathways and redox-sensitive transcription factors such as Nrf2, NF-kappaB and AP-1, which differentially regulate the genes for pro-inflammatory cytokines as well as the protective antioxidant genes. Understanding the regulatory mechanisms for the induction of antioxidants, such as GSH, versus pro-inflammatory mediators at sites of oxidant-directed injuries may allow for the development of novel therapies which will allow pharmacological manipulation of GSH synthesis during inflammation and oxidative injury. This article features the current knowledge about the role of GSH in redox signaling, GSH biosynthesis and particularly the regulation of transcription factor Nrf2 by GSH and downstream signaling during oxidative stress and inflammation in various pulmonary diseases. We also discussed the current therapeutic clinical trials using GSH and other thiol compounds, such as N-acetyl-l-cysteine, fudosteine, carbocysteine, erdosteine in environment-induced airways disease

The role of tourism entrepreneurship businesses in the economic development: an overview

Tourism entrepreneurship is considered as a recent phenomenon in the academic literature. Although the existing literature explored much on the role of entrepreneurship in the tourism industry as well as the role of entrepreneurship in the economic development, investigation of the role of tourism entrepreneurship businesses on the tourism development and consequently, on the economic development is not done extensively. The study provides a brief overview of the contribution of the entrepreneurship businesses in the economic development. Moreover, it also shortly describes the role of entrepreneurship in tourism businesses that stimulate tourism development. Thus, the study tried to explore the contribution of the tourism entrepreneurship businesses to the tourism development as well as economic development of the country. However, this study focused the three main contributions of tourism entrepreneurship businesses that require in the economic development of any country: (1) tourism entrepreneurs can create employment opportunities for themselves as well as for others (2) tourism entrepreneurship businesses can improve life standard of the people through earning more income and (3) rural development occurs through this tourism entrepreneurship businesses. Further depth study might be possible for providing some empirical evidence based on these three aspects of economic development that would investigate how employment opportunities, the standard of life as well as rural development can be possible through tourism entrepreneurship businesses. Moreover, a future study needs to explore how tourism entrepreneurship helps bring business benefits and tourism development that contribute to these three aspects of economic developmen

International Conference on Numerical Analysis and Applied Mathematics 2018, ICNAAM 2018 -- 13 September 2018 through 18 September 2018 -- -- 149843In this work, optical solitons are obtained for the Biswas - Milovic equation as a generalized model via the extended generalizing Riccati mapping method. This method reveals several optical solitons including traveling wave solutions. The found solutions are identified with two different forms including the hyperbolic functions, the rational functions and the trigonometric functions. Reliability of our solution is given graphical consequens. © 2019 Author(s)

    On connections on principal bundles

AbstractA new construction of a universal connection was given in Biswas, Hurtubise and Stasheff (2012). The main aim here is to explain this construction. A theorem of Atiyah and Weil says that a holomorphic vector bundle E over a compact Riemann surface admits a holomorphic connection if and only if the degree of every direct summand of E is zero. In Azad and Biswas (2002), this criterion was generalized to principal bundles on compact Riemann surfaces. This criterion for principal bundles is also explained

Link to publisher's homepage at http://ijbt.unimap.edu.myThis study aims to investigate entrepreneurial intention among the Bangladeshi tourism students. This study is quantitative in nature and questionnaire survey method is used to obtain the information for this study. This study found that Bangladeshi tourism students are not interested in entrepreneurship. Most of the participants want to choose their future career as an employee in any company or organization. They are not eager to accept risk or challenges. Although maximum respondents want to implement their tasks innovatively, they will not choose their career as an entrepreneur. Since this study is intention and perception based, it is possible that future research may generate different result in relation with the change in student intention about entrepreneurship. The study will be useful to the researchers who want to know the tourism student intention on entrepreneurship. Further research should be preceded by providing some suggestions and guidelines to motivate Bangladeshi tourism students to choose the entrepreneurial as their career and this will be very beneficial for the development of the tourism sector in Bangladesh. The findings of this study will be beneficial for practitioners who are interested in understanding tourism student’s entrepreneurial intention. The development of conceptual framework in this study will enrich the literature regarding the construct of tourism student intention about entrepreneurship. This study will be useful in providing an insight of entrepreneur and entrepreneurship as well as some factors of entrepreneurship such risk-taking propensity, innovativeness, as well as education and training

A Thesis Submitted to the Department of Agricultural Economics Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka In partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of MASTER OF SCIENCE (MS) IN AGRICULTURAL ECONOMICSNow a days organic farming is an important and most demandable method in agriculture. Rice plays a pivotal role in all sphere of life and when it comes to food security of the rural farmers. It is the most important commodity in terms of livelihood and food. It is not only staple food but also center of the entire Bengali life. Among various types of rice, Boro rice is grown all over the Bangladesh for export as well as domestic market. The present study was designed to analyze the socio-economic profile of the respondent, find out the determinants of organic fertilizer use on Boro rice production and identify the problems of organic fertilizer use on Boro rice production. Three villages were selected under Sujanagar Upazila and others two villages from Bera Upazila. Farmers are mainly using cowdung and compost as the organic fertilizer in the Boro rice production. Primary data were collected through purposively random sampling from 120 farmers. About 60 farmers use organic fertilizer in Boro rice production, whereas others 60 farmers who did not use organic fertilizer. Descriptive Statistics, Binary Logistic Regression model used in the study. Majority of the farmers who used organic fertilizer was medium aged farmers with medium family size, and they had completed their secondary level of schooling with medium income. In the contrary, who did not use organic fertilizer, had medium family size with medium income, and they had no formal education. Most of the organic fertilizer user did not use of credit facility, whereas inorganic fertilizer user use credit facility, although organic fertilizer user more engaged on various organizational membership than inorganic fertilizer user. Organic fertilizer user having livestock, but most of the inorganic fertilizer user have no livestock. The Logistic Regression Model reveals that education, training, extension service, information access, livestock, market distance, bicycle/van ownership were significant and positive, on the other hand age, family size, credit facility were significant and negative. Among various problems of using organic fertilizer on Boro rice production, lack of credit facility ranked first, high price of inputs ranked second, and lack of training ranked third position in the study area. This scenery will be changed with adequate use of credit facility, provision of organic fertilizer to the farmers. Government should give more emphasis on training and raising awareness on organic fertilizer use on Boro rice production
