On the Translation of Nikolay Gogol’s Conceptosphere Units: “Bogatyrstvo” or “Heroism”?
The translation of Nikolay Gogol’s legacy into foreign languages is traditionally associated with a number of difficulties, ignoring which leads to a distortion of the idiostyle of the classic. The article defines the main reason for the distance between Nikolay Gogol’s works and their foreign transcriptions. It lies in the translator’s indistinguishability of those original writer’s concepts, which are built on the basis of national-patriotic constants and supplemented with semantic stresses that are priority for Gogol the Christian. The argumentation of the proposed thesis is carried out in the article in stages. The first stage is connected with the reconstruction of the “core” of Gogol’s concept “Bogatyrstvo” based on the material of “Selected Passages from Correspondence with Friends” and “Dead Souls.” The second stage is the semantic volume of the “core” of Gogol’s concept “Bogatyrstvo” and the ways of its exposition in foreign translations. It turns out that the reduction of the essence of the author’s concept of “Bogatyrstvo” proposed by the majority of translators to the culturally neutral category of “heroism” is irrational and superficial. The author of the article proposes transliteration of Nikolay Gogol’s conceptosphere units as a solution to the problem of its untranslatability
Nikolay Kirsanov in the System of Characters in the Novel “Fathers and Sons” by Ivan Turgenev
The aim of the article is to study the character of Nikolay Kirsanov and its role in the novel “Fathers and Sons” since, until recently, this character has been rather neglected, and both national and foreign critics have focused on a standard, and often schematic, enumeration of some positive qualities of the character’s personality. In order to achieve the aim and to probably reconsider the ideas and thematic plot of the novel by I. Turgenev in general, the hermeneutic, biographical and cultural-historical methods are used in the article in the context of receptive aesthetics. The suggested approach has enabled the author to argue that the personality traits of Nikolay Petrovich are determined by his relationship with Fenechka because in this case they find themselves under pressure of social inequality, significant age difference, and their mutual illegitimate son. Such an unusual behavior of a basically positive character is motivated by his belonging to the infernal sphere, which is interpreted by means of the image of “le Diable Boiteux”, i.e. “a lame devil”, with all customs and traditions of the landowners and nobility represented in it. Moreover, the character of Nikolay Petrovich Kirsanov embodied Turgenev’s personal traumatic experience concerning the writer’s illegitimate daughter. All this has allowed the author to make a conclusion that it is possible to partially reconsider most of the novel characters due to their involvement into the ambiguous situation which formed because of one of the Kirsanov brothers. The role of the character of Nikolay Petrovich and its place in the system of characters in the novel “Fathers and Sons” consists in the fact that thanks to this contradictory character, the book obtains additional pier- cing human impulse, which ensures immortality of the genius Russian writer’s literary work
Porovnání dvou nederivatizujících solventních systémů a vliv aditiv
Název práce: Rozpouštění celulózy: Porovnání dvou nederivatizujících solventních systémů a vliv aditiv Autor: Nikolay Kotov Ústav: Ústav makromolekulární chemie, Akademie věd České republiky, v. v. i. Vedoucí disertační práce: RNDr. Jiří Dybal, CSc. Konzultant: Mgr. Adriana Šturcová, Ph.D. Ústav makromolekulární chemie, Akademie věd České republiky, v. v. i., Odděleni vibrační spektroskopii Abstrakt: Celulóza je snadno dostupný a hojně využívaný materiál získávaný z obnovitelných zdrojů. Pozornost je věnována vlivu...Title: Cellulose dissolution: Comparison of two non-derivatizing solvent systems and the effect of additives Author: Nikolay Kotov Institute: Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry, Czech Academy of Sciences Supervisor of the doctoral thesis: RNDr. Jiří Dybal, CSc. Consultant: Mgr. Adriana Šturcová, Ph.D. Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry, Czech Academy of Sciences, Department of Vibrational Spectroscopy Abstract: Cellulose is an abundant renewable material, which processing and applicability is limited owing to cellulose inability to dissolve in commonly used solvents. Only specific solvents or their combinations are able to dissolve cellulose and its dissolution processes remain unclear till nowadays. Aim of this thesis was to acquire new experimental information on the changes which cellulose exhibits upon dissolution in two exemplary solvents: an ionic liquid 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride (bmimCl) and in an organic solvent N,N-dimethylacetamide (DMAc) with lithium chloride (LiCl). The main tool for that investigation is vibrational spectroscopy which provides valuable information about the polymer structure. Similarities and differences found in the spectra of cellulose in those two solvents and influence of cellulose on the solvents are analyzed. Furthermore, influence of additives on the...Matematicko-fyzikální fakultaFaculty of Mathematics and Physic

Евгений Дмитриевич Поливанов: Абхазский Аналитический Алфавит. Издание текста с переводом на английский язык
The present paper features the publication of an unedited manuscript by the Soviet linguist E.D. Polivanov, submitted in November 1927 by its author not for publication but just as a contribu- tion to the discussion around the so-called Abkhaz Analytical Alphabet. is graphic system was devised by the academician Nikolay Yakovlevich Marr on the basis of the Latin alphabet for the representation of all Japhetic (Caucasian) languages. In the rst section of the introduction, the main characteristics of Marr’s Analytical Alphabet are presented; the second section addresses the linguistic discussion that followed its introduction in Abkhazia as the o cial alphabet in 1926 and its replacement two years later by a Latin-based alphabet. e third section gives comment on some questions of Abkhaz phonetics and transcription; the fourth is devoted to textual and editorial is- sues. e edition of the Russian text is accompanied by an English translation, prepared by Grazia Giannetta (Macerata)
Tuponia (Tuponia) soongorica Drapolyuk 1980
Tuponia (Tuponia) soongorica Drapolyuk, 1980 So far was known from eastern Kazakhstan, adjacent area of Russian Altai, and Mongolia. First record for China. Material examined: CHINA: Xinjiang Uygur Zizhiqu: Wenquan, 44.98475 ° N 81.03147 ° E, 1321 m, 22 Jul 2010, N.N. Discussion. Drapolyuk (1980) noted in the original description of T. soongorica that the species is closely related to and may represent only a subspecies of T. roseipennis (Reuter, 1878). In her opinion, subsequent studies of both species in sympatry were needed to reveal the status of T. soongorica. Both species were sampled by the junior author within the same site in Wenquan, China. Examination and redetermination of all available material allows us to conclude that the distributional ranges of both species are largely sympatric (Fig. 27) and there is no intergradation of distinctive characters. T. soongorica can be separated from T. roseipennis by having two keels at the base of the sclerotized part of the phallotheca and a narrower, more strongly sinuate large blade of the vesica. The phallotheca of the latter species is devoid of any keels, while the large blade of the vesica in ventral view is wider and slightly sinuate (see Figs. 15–23 in Drapolyuk 1980). Besides the characters mentioned in the Drapolyuk’s key, specimens of T. soongorica are somewhat larger, with yellowish hemelytra, more or less darkened inner margin of the clavus and lateroapical area of corium. Specimens of T. roseipennis are smaller on average, with hemelytra not darkened, ranging in color from bright rose to almost entirely yellow.Published as part of Konstantinov, Fedor V. & Vinokurov, Nikolay N., 2011, New species and new records of Plant Bugs (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Miridae) from Northwestern China, pp. 27-43 in Zootaxa 2836 on page 41, DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.20150
