Liu & N.J. Chung (1977: 23) in sharing epiphytic life-form, alternate and ±flattened leaves and fused calyx, while the former is readily distinguished in having longer calyx (1.5–2.0 vs. 0.8–1.0 mm) that are only fused at the base (vs. nearly entirely fused).

Morphological descriptions and illustrations: —This species has been described by Liu & Chung (1977: 21) and illustrated by Tang & Huang (1989: 27, pl. 15, as Sedum microsepalum), Chen et al. (2017: 329) and Ito et al. (2017: 11, fig. 1D).

Distribution and ecology: — Sedum triangulisepalum is endemic in Taiwan, where it occurs in the northern and eastern portions of the main island and usually grows on tree trunks in montane cloud forests at 500–2000 m elev. (Liu & Chung 1977; Chen et al. 2017; Ito et al. 2017).

Etymology: —The specific epithet is composed of two Latin elements: triangulus, triangular, and sepalum, sepal, referring to its triangular calyx lobes. It should be spelt as “ triangulisepalum ” instead of “ triangulosepalum ” as originally published by Liu & Chung (1977) according to Art. 60.10 of the ICN.

Note: —Two gatherings, “ Suzuki s.n. ” collected from Wulai and “ Chuang 280 ” collected from Lomawanshan, were cited under Sedum triangulisepalum by Liu & Chung (1977), and “ Chuang 280 ” is presumably a typo of “ Chung 280 ” since the “ N.J. Chung 280 ” gathering, collected by the second original author and currently preserved in NTUF, matches well with the data given in the original publication (Liu & Chung 1977). There are nine duplicates of Chung 280, including one (barcode: F00008307) labelled as “ holotype ” and the others (barcodes: F00008308–F00008315) as “isotype”. Although these labels could not be archived as the legitimate designation of types as they are not effectively published (see Art. 7.10 of the ICN), they supposedly reflect the original author’s intention and are thus adopted here. Images of all type materials are available in the “Plants of Taiwan ” database [http://tai2.ntu.edu.tw].
Published as part of Hsu, Tian-Chuan & Chung, Shih-Wen, 2022, Validation of the name Sedum triangulosepalum (Crassulaceae), pp. 215-216 in Phytotaxa 547 (2) on page 215, DOI: 10.11646/phytotaxa.547.2.10, http://zenodo.org/record/6571375</a&gt

Exploring Three East Asian Composers: Toru Takemitsu, Chen Yi, and Jiyoun Chung

    No full text
In a society where studying and composing in the traditional Western classical style is more common, there has been a large growth of non-Western composers and musicians in the twentieth and twenty-first century, especially from the East Asian countries. This presentation will examine three East Asian composers’ works: Toru Takemitu’s Rain Tree Sketch, Chen Yi’s Variations on “Awariguli”, and Jiyoun Chung’s 가위 (“Scissors”): Fantasia Toccata. Just as there are multiple aspects to a culture, there are multiple ways composers can portray these aspects within their music. The similarities between Takemitsu, Chen, and Chung lie in the fact that they synthesize cultural aspects from their native countries with traditional Western musical techniques. However, the journey each composer took to create their works differs immensely. Takemitsu did not begin to appreciate Japanese musical tradition and regularly incorporate aspects of it in his compositions until he had been composing for over a decade. Chen had a greater appreciation for Chinese musical tradition early on and incorporated it into her early compositions and continues to infuse traditional Chinese elements into almost all of her works. Although integrating traditional Korean elements does not come as a priority for Chung, depending on what she specifically wants to communicate through her music, it provided her with a larger musical vocabulary. How Takemitsu, Chen, and Chung preserve aspects of their native culture, ranging from music to aesthetics while fusing traditional Western music techniques, will be observed mainly through their compositional and culture’s influences

Optical Properties of ZnO with In inclusion and Spiral Growth of ZnO/ZnS Composites on Mica

This paper has two parts. Part 1 is about the morphology and optical properties of undoped and In-doped ZnO nanostructures synthesized on upside-down silica; part 2 is about the spiral growth of nanostructures of ZnS-ZnO composites on mica. ZnS is used as sources. The ZnO nanostructures were all synthesized by a no-catalyst thermal evaporation method. The morphology of the samples was examined by scanning electron microscope (SEM). X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman scattering and electronic energy-dispersive X-ray experiments were also performed. The optical properties were investigated by cathodoluminescence and photoluminescence; the spectra will be shown. In part 1, incisive undoped ZnO nanopins were fabricated, and shows the result that doping indium will change the morphology of ZnO nanopins to nanowires. It is reported that In inclusion will improve the crystallization of zinc oxide, and enhance the UV emission of ZnO. The green luminescence could be diminished by inclusion of In, and then the origin of the defect of ZnO nanostructures will be discussed. In part 2, we will show that different substrates can influence the morphology, orientation and optical properties of ZnO nanostructures. The photoluminescence spectra indicate that the ZnO/ZnS composites have potential application for green light emitter.口試委員審定書............................I謝.....................................IIbstract................................III要.....................................IV.Introduction............................1 Reference...............................3.Theoretical Background..................4.1.Scanning Electron Microscopy..........4.2.Photoluminescence Spectroscopy.......11.2.1.Photoluminescence Emission.........11.2.2.Recombination processes............15.2.3.Photoluminescence Apparatus........17.3.Cathodolumniescence Spectroscopy.....19.4.Energy-dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy.22.5.Raman Spectroscopy...................24.5.1.Anti-Stokes and Stokes lines.......25.5.2.Raman Scattering Apparatus.........27 Reference..............................31.Effects of In inclusion on the growth of ZnO nanostructures...........................32.1.Introduction.........................32.2.Experimental Details.................33.3.Results and Discussion...............34.4.Summary..............................37 Reference..............................42.Spiral Growth of Nanostructured ZnS-ZnO Composites on Mica.....................................44.1.Introduction.........................44.2.Experimental Details.................44.3.Results and Discussion...............45.4.Summary..............................48 Reference..............................53.Conclusion.............................5

Isomorphic immigrant effect in foreign entry

The key problem for commitment to international business activities is the limited knowledge of a host country. A firm’s host country experience and its history of entry patterns in other countries shapes entry preferences into a foreign country (Pan and Tse, 2000; Chung and Enderwick, 2001; Yiu and Makino, 2002; Li and Meyer, 2008). In the past decade, scholars became aware of the effect of a specific kind of international experience within the firm: the immigrant effect (Chung and Enderwick, 2001; Tadesse and White, 2008; White and Tadesse, 2008; Madhavan and Iriyama, 2009). The present paper reports on the role immigrants fulfil in foreign entry plans and how their involvement relates to the outcome of the foreign entry go/no-go decision. Findings confirm that among the firms that continue in entry, the presence of immigrants in the firm is relatively high. But, and this is unexpected, the same is true for firms that cancel entry plans (Oortwijn, 2010a)
