Patent Protection with Cooperative R&D Option
No full textWe investigate R&D incentive under patent protection with cooperation option. Chowdhury [Economics Letters, 2005, 89(1), 120-126] claims that patent protection may decrease R&D incentive when the tournament effect (TE) is negative. However, We show that patent protection in the presence of R&D cooperation option always increases R&D incentive. In addition, to increase R&D incentive, this option strictly dominates imitation and may dominate royalty licensing under patent protection, introduced by Mukherjee [Economics Letters, 2006, 93(2), 196-201].R&D investment; Patent protection; Cooperative R&D

No full textIl libro si propone di tracciare lo status quaestionis dei nuovi fenomeni che si stanno manifestando nell'universo dei media e della comunicazione. La realtà dei media è in costante trasformazione. Spesso emergono nuove piattaforme o nuove tendenze che non si fa in tempo a metabolizzare e contestualizzare prima che si esauriscano e smarriscano la propria energia propulsiva. Quello che occorre è uno sguardo, insieme descrittivo e riflessivo, che si soffermi ad analizzare ciascuna di queste nuove emergenze tentando di valutarne attentamente le conseguenze sociali e culturali, al di là di mode effimere o di interessi di corto respiro. Più che un lessico sui media, questo libro intende costruire un repertorio di temi per leggere il presente attraverso i fenomeni che interessano la comunicazione: quali le dinamiche della contemporaneità, le linee di tendenza che costituiranno la nuova agenda setting di chi riflette e si interroga sul destino della società e delle correnti che alimentano i new media? Si tratta di un libro collettaneo, scritto da studiosi che si sono occupati di temi rilevanti per l'interpretazione del mondo-media: per ciascun concetto viene esplicitato da quando se ne parla, in quali termini, quali sono gli elementi di problematizzazione nel dibattito attuale, quali le prospettive e le implicazioni sul piano dei mutamenti socio-culturali. E' un libro agile, uno strumento utile per fare il punto sulle nuove tendenze che emergono nel panorama dei media oggi, ma anche uno stimolo prezioso per contribuire ad allargare lo spettro dei fenomeni oggetto di studio dei “comunicazionisti”, nella convinzione che essi possano dire molto della società in cui viviamo a condizione di abbandonare la riserva protetta dello specialismo disciplinare. Il lavoro che cambia e che ci cambia
No full textMolti possono essere i temi di approfondimento di fronte ad un argomento, come il lavoro, che ha sempre rappresentato un tema centrale per l’uomo, sia per la valenza economica che per le implicazioni psicologiche e sociali, che in questi ultimi decenni ha subito radicali cambiamenti, soprattutto a fronte delle innovazioni tecnologiche, ma anche di nuove riforme del lavoro.
La psicologia sociale affronta il lavoro analizzando come si sviluppano alcune dinamiche sociali, come i gruppi, la leadership, gli atteggiamenti, le rappresentazioni sociali, in questo specifico contesto. Sono molti i contatti con la psicologia del lavoro, la quale si direziona poi in un’ottica applicativa più specifica e operativa di analisi delle organizzazioni, di intervento e di formazione.
La scelta operata in questo capitolo, per dare un quadro dei cambiamenti che riguardano il lavoro, è quella di partire da un discorso di fondo sulla centralità del lavoro e sulle rappresentazioni che le persone hanno del lavoro e di questa centralità, per poi offrire alcune riflessioni sul cambiamento del management in relazione alla diversa scansione del tempo lavorativo, e sulle nuove generazioni, in particolare la generazione dei cosiddetti “Millenians”, che hanno portato nelle organizzazioni un nuovo approccio al lavoro, sia dal punto di vista dell’uso delle tecnologie che della mentalità.
In ultimo, abbiamo considerato come la salute del lavoratore fosse stata focalizzata in passato sulla dimensione fisica, mentre sempre di più ora è la salute psicologica del lavoratore a essere a rischio, in particolare per il fenomeno dello stress, e quindi ad avere necessità di tutela giuridica adeguat
MeSH term explosion and author rank improve expert recommendations
No full textInformation overload is an often-cited phenomenon that reduces the productivity, efficiency and efficacy of scientists. One challenge for scientists is to find appropriate collaborators in their research. The literature describes various solutions to the problem of expertise location, but most current approaches do not appear to be very suitable for expert recommendations in biomedical research. In this study, we present the development and initial evaluation of a vector space model-based algorithm to calculate researcher similarity using four inputs: 1) MeSH terms of publications; 2) MeSH terms and author rank; 3) exploded MeSH terms; and 4) exploded MeSH terms and author rank. We developed and evaluated the algorithm using a data set of 17,525 authors and their 22,542 papers. On average, our algorithms correctly predicted 2.5 of the top 5/10 coauthors of individual scientists. Exploded MeSH and author rank outperformed all other algorithms in accuracy, followed closely by MeSH and author rank. Our results show that the accuracy of MeSH term-based matching can be enhanced with other metadata such as author rank
Che Guevara and revolutionary Christianity in Latin America
No full textThe thesis, firstly, examines the degree to which revolutionary Christianity in Latin America was influenced by Che Guevara and, secondly, seeks to identify aims and objectives shared by Che Guevara and revolutionary Christianity in Latin America. The four expressions of revolutionary Christianity studied in the thesis are: Camilo Torres in Colombia, "The Movement of Priests for the Third World" in Argentina, "Christians for Socialism" in Chile, and revolutionary Christianity during the Sandinista revolution in Nicaragua. These groups and individuals cover the period of the emergence and development of revolutionary Christianity in Latin America from the mid 1960s to the mid 1980s. The research has identified three key points of influence, three shared aims and three shared objectives. I argue that Guevara was influential (1) as a revolutionary icon, (2) as one who legitimised Christian participation in revolutionary struggle and (3) as one whose concept of the "new man" was used and developed by some Christian revolutionary thinkers. The three shared aims are identified as (1) socialist/communist society, (2) national liberation and (3) the emergence of the "new man". The three shared objectives are identified as (1) revolutionary unity, (2) taking power and (3) conscientisation. The thesis concludes with a summary of the research findings and an examination of Guevara's "new man" alongside the Christian concept of the "new being in Christ". The thesis proposes a synthesis of Guevara's "new man" with the "new being in Christ" by means of the establishment of small scale Christian co- operatives
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
No full textThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
