A Framework to Plot and Recognize Hand Motion Trajectories towards Development of Non-tactile Interfaces
AbstractThis work demonstrates a real time framework to recognize trajectories articulated in the air using bare hand motion. A frontend is established to plot the trajectories as well as to spot the interleaved dynamic gestures. Finger detection based controls and trajectory plotting velocity help to spot the gesture boundaries. Trajectories are described through a unique Equi-Polar Signature (EPS) derived from circular grid normalization of trajectory points. EPS is invariant to translation, scale, rotation and stroke directions. k-Nearest Neighbor (KNN) classification strategy recognizes EPSs of digits 0-9 and operator symbols ‘+’, ‘–’, ‘×’, and ‘/’. Unlike previous path alignment algorithms, the proposed EPS scheme executes in linear time and fits to real-time constraints. On a customized depth video dataset of 2280 trajectories, 94.1% recognition accuracy is achieved
Radiation induced depigmentation disorder in two patients with breast cancer: Exploring a rare accompaniment
AbstractRadiation induced depigmentation disorder is a rare accompaniment. We herein report two patients of bilateral breast cancer developing depigmentation disorder, initially confined to the radiation portal with subsequent generalization within few months of completion of whole breast radiotherapy. Both these patients had no prior history of vitiligo or other autoimmune disorder. This brief report highlights the importance of awareness of this association in appropriate decision making in susceptible patients thereby preventing this morbidity and its psychological ramifications
Alveolar soft part sarcoma of orbit: A rare diagnosis
Objective: Alveolar soft part sarcoma (ASPS) is an aggressive, rare tumour with unique morphological and histopathological features.
Methods: We report a rare case of orbital ASPS and its management in a young male who presented with painless proptosis and progressive loss of vision.
Result: Twenty-two year male presented with a history of gradually increasing proptosis with loss of vision since 12 months. He underwent radical re-excision of mass with right orbital exenteration and reconstruction using temporalis muscle flap. Adjuvant radiotherapy to a dose of 64 Gy in 32 fractions over 6.5 weeks was planned in view of positive surgical margins. Patient is free of disease and currently under follow up in multidisciplinary clinic.
Conclusion: Function preserving surgery remains the standard treatment approach in localised disease however the complex anatomy and locally aggressive nature makes it difficult to achieve clear surgical margin. Adjuvant radiotherapy has shown to improve local control in patients with positive surgical margins

Phytonanofabrication of Copper Oxide from Albizia saman and Its Potential as an Antimicrobial Agent and Remediation of Congo Red Dye from Wastewater
Metal nanoparticle fabrication through plant-based green methods is considered the gold standard among the various synthesis techniques owing to its simplicity, eco-friendliness, ease of use, and the huge diversity of plant species. Copper nanoparticles (CuONPs) have proven their potential in the fields of medicine, agriculture, pharmaceutics, and catalysis, and are being synthesized using various physicochemical and biological methods. Here, the authors have reported on the first-ever use of Albizia saman leaf extract for the development of CuONPs. Phytochemical analysis of the methanolic extracts of the plant exhibited the presence of phenols (32.31%), tannins (12.27%), and flavonoids (16.72%). The phytonutrients existing in leaf extract successfully reduced the copper salt in the CuONPs. A detailed investigation of the synthesized CuONPs was performed using advanced instruments. The UV-Vis spectra exhibited an absorbance peak at 290 nm, while the X-ray diffraction pattern (XRD) revealed that the average crystallite size was about 29.86 nm. Dynamic light scattering (DLS) revealed that the average hydrodynamic size of the CuONPs was 72.3 nm in diameter, while its zeta potential was −0.49, with a negative polarity. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy showed the major bands in the region of 400 to 1000 cm−1, suggesting the formation of CuONPs, while the band in the region of 1100 to 2600 cm−1 shows the association of plant molecules with the phytonanofabricated CuO particles. Transmission and scanning electron microscopy showed the spherical shape of the CuONPs, whose size was about 20–50 nm. The phytonanofabricated CuO exhibited antibacterial activity by forming a zone of inhibition (ZOI) against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Candida albicans. The removal efficiency of the CuONPs was 33.33% for Congo Red dye. The removal efficiency of the phytonanofabricated CuO for CR dye was reduced to 16% after the 4th cycle
Impact of head immobilization position on dose distribution in patients of brainstem glioma
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of patient position (supine and prone) on conventional bilateral field, three dimensional conformal radiotherapy (3DCRT) and intensity modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) treatment plans in patients of brainstem glioma with a view to exploring the possibility of avoiding beam entry through immobilization accessories. Methods: Five patients of brainstem glioma were immobilized and scanned in supine and prone positions with a combination of head rest and thermoplastic cast. Each patient was planned with three techniques: (i) 2-fields bilateral (ii) 3-fields 3DCRT, and (iii) 5-fields IMRT. Plan quality was analyzed in terms of planning target volume (PTV) coverage and dose to various critical organs at risk (OAR) for both the supine and prone treatment positions. Results: In case of bilateral fields (parallel opposed) planning, the PTV coverage and dose to the OAR were almost similar for both the supine and prone positions. In 3DCRT plan, although the PTV coverage and dose to critical structures were comparable for both the supine and prone position, dose to cochlea was lower for the prone position plan. A modest decrease in maximum dose to optic nerves and mean dose to temporal lobes were also observed for the prone position plan. In IMRT plans, the PTV coverage and homogeneity were comparable in both the supine and prone positions. Reduction in average maximum and mean doses to all OARs with functional subunit (FSU) in series and parallel respectively was observed in the IMRT plan for prone position when compared to the supine position. Conclusion: Supine and prone positions resulted in almost similar dose distribution in all the three techniques applied. At some instances, the prone position showed better normal tissues sparing when compared to supine. Moreover, prone position is more likely to avoid attenuation due to immobilization devices and uncertainty in dose calculation under large inhomogeneities
