In formulating economic development, Chapra first analyzed the thought of economic development from the west dominated by secular thought. As a result, Chapra found inconsistencies in secular economic development thinking which applied in the economic development system of the world's countries. Chapra believes that the inconsistencies of economic development cause destruction and bring the economy away from justice. Chapra's criticism led Chapra to the conclusion that Islam has great potential to fill consistency in socially equitable economic struggles

No full textM. Umer Chapra’s thought in economics is a blend of traditional sciences,
theology and modern economics sciences. His thinking is dominated by macro economic
sector because he was widely occupied in the world economy. His thinking are including
the concept of falah, hayyahtayyibah and Muslims economic challenges, monetary policy,
the Islamic financial institutions which is concerned to the central bank and its policies,
and the concept of welfare states according to Islam. Like the other Muslim economists,
Chapra hammered at moral as the way of reaching fair and healthy economy.The privileged
of M. Umer Chapra thought is the ability to mix and match between the Western economic
concepts with Islamic values. He was awarded as the ‘ success Islamic scholar ‘. While his
slight shortage is in the attitude of tolerance towards Western financial instruments. This
attitude is the impact of his understanding of the world economy, that may not be erased
from these instruments except gradually and slowly. Although Chapra realizes that the
Islamic economic system can deliver socio - economic justice to the world and become a
solution for the failure of the capitalist and socialist economic systems.
Key words: monetary policy, banking system, welfare state.
Fokus utama makalah ini adalah membahas pemikiran M. Umer Chapra dalam
bidang ekonomi. Penulis menemukan pemikiran ekonomi Chapra merupakan perpaduan
antara ilmu-ilmu tradisional, ilmu agama dan ilmu ekonomi modern. Pemikirannya
didominasi oleh bidang perekonomian makro karena ia banyak berkecimpung di dunia
perekonomian negara. Diantara pemikirannya adalah mengenai konsep falah, hayyah
thayyibah, dan tantangan ekonomi umat Islam, kebijakan moneter, lembaga keuangan
syariah yang lebih ditekankan kepada bank sentral dan kebijakan-kebijakannya, serta konsep
negara sejahtera menurut Islam. Sebagaimana ekonom muslim lainnya, Chapra
mengedepankan pentinganya moral bagi jalannya perekonomian yang adil dan sehat.
Keistimewaan pemikiran M. Umer Chapra adalah kemampuannya memadu-padankan
antara konsep-konsep ekonomi Barat dengan nilai-nilai Islam. Sehingga ia mendapatkan
gelar sebagai ‘sarjana Islam yang sukses’. Sedangkan kekuranganannya terletak pada sikap
tolerannya terhadap instrumen-instrumen keuangan Barat. Sikap tersebut merupakan imbas
dari pemahamannya mengenai keadaan ekonomi dunia yang tidak mungkin dimurnikan
dari instrumen-instrumen tersebut kecuali secara bertahap dan perlahan. Meskipun Chapra
menyadari bahwa sistem ekonomi Islam dapat mengantarkan kepada keadilan sosio-ekonomi
dunia dan menjadi solusi bagi kegagalan sistem ekonomi kapitalis dan sosialis.

Wastewater modification processes in a stabilization reservoir: a new mathematical model
No full textThe paper presents a mathematical model for the simulation of the ecology of a
wastewater stabilization reservoir (WSR). WSRs are hypertrophic aquatic systems devoted
to water storage in warm countries where shortage conditions are often encountered.
Several factors that affect the stabilization reservoir’s effluent quality were taken into
account: hydraulics and hydrology, solar radiation, reaeration, algae, zooplankton, organic
matter, pathogens, and sediment-water interactions. The model quantifies the specific
influence of each factor on effluent quality, and evaluating the correlation between the
different factors. State variables included in the model were: algae, dissolved oxygen,
organic matter, zooplankton and indicator bacteria. The model was applied to an Italian
stabilization reservoir located in the south part of Sardinia: Simbirizzi lake. The model
generated satisfactory results and can be employed as a useful tool for environmental water
quality management of stabilization reservoirs
