Three essays on the economic value of recreational amenities provided by green spaces
No full textCette thèse interroge la valorisation des aménités récréatives des espaces verts par les individus, d'une part, en milieu urbain dans des villes européennes (chapitre 1) et françaises (chapitre 2) et, d'autre part, en zone rurale (chapitre 3). Pour répondre à cet objectif, nous utilisons des méthodes d’évaluation économique des espaces verts en mobilisant des outils de la microéconomie appliquée. Plus particulièrement, alors que le chapitre 1 s’appuie sur une approche par la satisfaction de vie, les chapitres 2 et 3 reposent sur une approche de préférence révélée et une évaluation d’impact avec des pondérations par scores de propension.Dans le chapitre 1, nous examinons les déterminants de la satisfaction des citadins des grandes villes européennes vis-à-vis des espaces verts à l'aide des données du Flash Eurobaromètre de 2019 et de l'Atlas Urbain afin de proposer aux acteurs de l'aménagement des territoires des politiques publiques en cohérence avec les préférences des ménages. Nous démontrons ainsi que c’est l’amélioration et non le stock actuel d’espaces verts qui impact cette satisfaction et que la dimension d’accessibilité en espaces verts a une plus forte influence que la disponibilité.A l'aide des données sur les loyers des Observatoires Locaux des Loyers et sur les parcs d’OpenStreetMap, le chapitre 2 étudie l'impact de différentes typologies de taille de parc urbain sur les montants des loyers du marché locatif privé français. Nous identifions ainsi, que les locataires valorisent de façon différente les parcs urbains en fonction de leur taille et donc des usages qui en découlent. Plus précisément, par ordre décroissant de préférence, nous montrons que les individus valorisent en premier lieu les parcs de grandes tailles, puis en second les petits parcs et enfin les parcs de taille moyenne.Enfin, dans le chapitre 3, nous estimons l'impact des aires protégées par le réseau Natura 2000 sur le tourisme rural basé sur la nature dans la région espagnole de Castille-et-Léon. Nous évaluons le consentement marginal à payer pour un hébergement dans une zone Natura 2000 en moyenne à 1.09 euro par personne et par nuit. Ainsi, la mise en œuvre d'une telle initiative conduit à la création de valeur sur le marché en pleine croissance du tourisme axé sur la nature.This thesis analyses how individuals value the recreational amenities of green spaces, firstly in an urban environment in European (chapter 1) and French (chapter 2) cities, and secondly in rural areas (chapter 3). To meet this objective, we use methods for the economic evaluation of green spaces, drawing on the tools of applied microeconomics. More specifically, while chapter 1 is based on a life satisfaction approach, chapters 2 and 3 rely on a revealed preference approach and an impact assessment using propensity scores weighting.In chapter 1, we examine the determinants of satisfaction with green spaces among city dwellers in major European cities, using data from the 2019 Flash Eurobarometer and the Urban Atlas, with a view to proposing public policies that are consistent with household preferences. We show that it is the improvement of green spaces rather than the current stock that has an impact on satisfaction, and that the accessibility of green spaces has a greater influence than availability.Using data on rents from the Observatoires Locaux des Loyers and on parks from OpenStreetMap, chapter 2 examines the impact of different types of urban park size on rental rates in the French private rental market. We find that tenants value urban parks differently depending on their size and the uses they offer. More specifically, in descending order of preference, we show that individuals first value large parks, then small parks and finally medium-sized parks.Finally, in chapter 3, we estimate the impact of areas protected by the Natura 2000 network on nature-based rural tourism in the Spanish region of “Castilla y León”. We estimate the marginal willingness to pay for accommodation in a Natura 2000 area at an average of 1.09 euros per person per night. Thus, the implementation of such an initiative leads to the creation of value in the growing nature-based tourism market
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. No full textWe have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
