On the Differences between the Philosophies of Cheng' Brothers and that between Hsieh Shang-tsai and Yang Kwei-shan
This article deals with the difference between the philosophies of Cheng brothers, Chen-I and Chen Ho. The difference signifies that the Li-ism, and Hsin-ism, i.e. Chen-Chu school and Lu-Wang school, are derived from those two different philosophies. The author indicates the historical development of those philosophies and the characters of the philosophers. He contends that the difference is critical to the development of history of philosophy in China

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Chu His's Concept of Human Nature from the Perspective of Li-chi Duality
This paper will first trace the historical sources and analyze the philosophical categories as found in Chu Hsi’s metaphysics in order to find some connection and logical structure between his cosmology and his theory on human nature. It will be made clear that Chu Hsi’s cosmology is based on the logic of the “nuity of substance and function”(t’I yung i ju), and his ontology on that while “principle is one, its manifestations are many” (li I fen shu). However, the main interest of Chu Hsi’s philosophical thought lies in moral self-cultivation which is centered on “seriousness and extension of principle” (chu-ching ch’iung-li). So it will be able to deal with the practical problem inherent in human nature-a problem or a kind of paradox that while human mind and universal mind stand in opposite, universal mind must be realized in human mind. From this point of view, Chu Hsi’s theory on substance and function has great advantage in that it does neither avoid nor distort the contradictory opposite. It has also resolved many difficulties, proved the perfectibility of human nature, and provided a new way to sagehood. This is the main point this paper tries to explicate so as to demonstrate the profundity of Chu Hsi’s philosophical thought
Chu His's View of Education and It's Contemporary Significance
The goal of this research project is to investigate the theoretical foundation of philosophy of education of Chu Hsi, including its metaphysics, its theory of human nature and its view of human life, etc. And from his educational ideals and theory of self-fulfilment to find out Chu's view of traditional Chinese ideas of general education. Furthermore, to investigate his educational practice, especially his methods and process; and from his long years of public service to assess his practical achievements, and from these achievements to figure out its great influence to the later dynasties in order to obtain some precious theory of education and historical experience and, thence, to evaluate its modern significances.
My method of investigation is, first, to induce the first-hand source of data and, then, to clarify its philosophical ideas with the help of history of thoughts and history of idealogy and, lastly, to compare it with modern ideas of education, particularly with a view of the educational situation of Taiwan in order to get some locally cogent contemporary significances.
The process of investigation and expecting results of this research project can be summarized as the following four items:
I. Chu's philosophical foundation of educational ideas, including its ontology, theory of human nature, view of human value and its philosophical view of history and culture-this is the investigation in the aspect of its philosophical foundation.
II. Chu's over-all view of moral education, personality education, knowledge education, education as personal investment, especially his over-all view of the traditional general education-this is the investigation in the aspect of the theoretical content of his educational thoughts.
III. From his massive writings on education to find out his way of educational practice in order to understand his system of education, including his view of educational bureaucracy, his teaching materials, textbooks, methods, etc.-this is the investigation of his educational practice.
IV. By comparing Chu's educational theory and practice with contemporary ones, especially in the context of the concrete educational situation about the practice of general education here in Taiwan we try to find out the contemporary significance of Chu's educational view.
From the above expected results this research project may provide some valuable suggestions to our educators as well as to future investigators
