Donor layer-acceptor chain formation in the LaNiGe2 structure: A crystallographic and computational study

    No full text
Synthesis, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction and computational studies were carried out for the title compound. LaNiGe2 crystallizes in the orthorhombic lattice Cmcm (a = 4.3040(6) Angstrom, b = 16.892(10) Angstrom, c = 4.2367(5) Angstrom, Z = 4). It consists of a Ni-capped Ge square lattice and Ge zigzag chains. A unique structural feature is the formation of the square lattice by the more electronegative Ge instead of by Ni atoms as in several other phases such as La3Ni4Ge4. Computational analysis indicates that the Ge square lattice acts as an electron donor while the Ge zigzag chain acts as electron acceptor. A donor-acceptor interaction similar to that in the CaBe2Ge2 phase stabilizes the Ge square lattice

Exercise training protects human and rodent β cells against endoplasmic reticulum stress and apoptosis

Prolonged exercise has positive metabolic effects in obese or diabetic individuals. These effects are usually ascribed to improvements in insulin sensitivity. We evaluated whether exercise also generates circulating signals that protect human and rodent β cells against endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress and apoptosis. For this purpose, we obtained serum from humans or mice before and after an 8 wk training period. Exposure of human islets or mouse or rat β cells to human or rodent sera, respectively, obtained from trained individuals reduced cytokine (IL-1β+IFN-γ)- or chemical ER stressor-induced β-cell ER stress and apoptosis, at least in part via activation of the transcription factor STAT3. These findings indicate that exercise training improves human and rodent β-cell survival under diabetogenic conditions and support lifestyle interventions as a protective approach for both type 1 and 2 diabetes.-Paula, F. La presente investigación tuvo como objetivo general determinar de qué manera la propuesta de mejora reduce los costos operativos de la empresa de Transportes y Comercial Chacon E.I.R.L., Trujillo 2021. A current diagnosis of each process in the logistics and maintenance areas of the company, in which they were able to establish, through the use of the Ishikawa tool, the main problems that cause a strong economic impact, which are: the lack of a purchasing plan which caused the company to have delays in the requested requirements , the lack of training for logistics and maintenance personnel, which caused delays, the lack of order in the warehouse and the lack of preventive maintenance on the trucks. It was developed as an improvement proposal to reduce operating costs in the company, these being: an inventory control system, training plan for the logistics and maintenance area, application of the 5S methodology and development of a preventive maintenance plan. The economic impact of operating costs was evaluated, generating annual savings of S/. 90,551.15in the areas of logistics and maintenance, through the proposed improvement. In addition to this, an economic evaluation was carried out which showed that the project presented is viable for the Transport and Commercial company Chacon E.I.R.L obtaining a VAN of S/ 90,551.15, an TIR of 67.10% and a B/C of 5.50

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    No full text
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
