Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

No full textThe research work of this thesis concerns the traitor tracing context in multimedia distribution platform. This type of applications which involves a great number of connected users need to include a tracing process to prevent media content from copyright infringement and fraud operations. Tracing traitors, or retrieving fraudulous actor in a piracy trial is constrained by important complexity and computational cost which increase with the increase of the number of audience and the number of colluders (the actors in a collusion or piracy attack).The state of the art study has provided us a critical and comparative analysis of the existing approaches and stood out major challenges to be addressed to substantially enhance the accusation rate during the tracing process. The well-known Tardos code provides good detectionrates and fair response to the major requirement of a tracing system by being close to the shortest fingerprint code length bound and allowing good detection rates. We continue with the Tardos code by improving its decoding step. The group-based property of our fingerprints offers to reduce the search space of the Tardos code and hence it contributes in enhancing the performance of the tracing process. An interesting characteristic of our fingerprint is its belonging to a hierarchy we propose to construct based on the most features which characterize a digital consumer in a multimedia distribution platform.Depuis la démocratisation d'Internet, la diffusion de contenus numériques protégés par des droits d'auteur (films, photos, ...) s'est accrue de manière importante notamment avec les réseaux pairs-à-pair et les plateformes de distribution de contenus multimédia qui permettent de partager des contenus facilement. En effet, cette situation pose problème aux ayants droit de ces contenus qui veulent contrôler leur diffusion et dissuader les potentiels contrevenants. L'objectif principal de cette thèse est de pouvoir tracer les utilisateurs malveillants ayant redistribué un contenu illégalement même dans le cas où le nombre d’utilisateurs connectés dépasse des milliers. Pour atteindre cet objectif, nous avons conçu un système de personnalisation de contenu qui modifie un contenu avant sa diffusion avec une empreinte unique à structure hiérarchique. La hiérarchie proposée s’est basée sur une étude approfondie des comportements et préférences des utilisateurs d’une plateforme de distribution des contenus multimédia ainsi que du modèle d’attaque possible dans de telles plateformes. Cette empreinte à structure hiérarchique à plusieurs niveaux permet de tracer des traîtres ayant rediffusé illégalement un contenu dans un temps limité. En effet, en se basant sur une hypothèse de regroupement des utilisateurs selon des caractéristiques communes permet de faire un traçage de groupes avant de procéder à un traçage des utilisateurs.Une deuxième contribution consiste à améliorer l’étape de traçage par une stratégie d’accusation à deux niveaux en utilisant un autre code de traçage pour la sélection de groupe. Le fingerprint résultant est alors une concaténation de deux codes anti-collusion permettant de rendre l’accusation plus fiable voire moins complexe… Plus précisément, ce système est le premier de la littérature à fournir un processus de traçage à deux niveaux adaptables pour des empreintes hiérarchiques dont une partie est basée sur les codes de Tardos. Dans une troisième contribution, nous avons cherché à diminuer encore plus la taille des fingerprints insérés dans le flux audio de la vidéo par le biais d’une conversion en QR code. Cette conversion a apporté plus d’un avantage aux mots de codes : encore plus de sécurité , une taille compacte avec une grande capacité d’insertion et une réduction importante du temps d’insertion relatif à la technique de tatouage utilisée. Une dernière contribution consiste à migrer vers un schéma aveugle de traçage où l’on s’approche plus de la réalité, où on manque d’information sur le nombre de pirates et le type de stratégie d’attaques appliquées par les pirates. En se basant sur des techniques existantes dans la littérature avec des décodeurs simples, nous avons migré notre système de traçage à deux niveaux en schéma aveugle en utilisant l’algorithme de maximum à posteriori. Une migration qui s’avère intéressante en considérant les taux de détection retrouvés lors des expérimentations. Les défis relevés par ce système sont: traçage de traîtres, réduction de la complexité et des couts du traçage, minimisation des probabilités d’erreurs et réduction de la longueur du code. Ce système est basé sur la structure hiérarchique des signatures et en profite pour une sélection pondérée des groupes d’utilisateurs et pour accélérer le processus de traçage

Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
