Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
koamabayili/VECTRON-author-checklist: VECTRON author checklist
We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
Anatolian geography, which is one of the most seismically active regions of the world, has hosted many earthquakes until today. The existence of these frequent destructive earthquakes necessitates a technical examination of the building stock and the urban transformation of risky buildings. The study is located on the East Anatolian Fault Zone in the Anatolian geography, some of the reinforced concrete structures in Dulkadiroğlu, Elbistan and Pazarcık districts of Kahramanmaraş province 1. The level assessment was carried out by taking into account the "Principles Regarding the Determination of Risky Structures" published by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization in the Official Gazette in 2019. The methods given in these principles are not used for building earthquake performance evaluation and strengthening. According to the methods given in these principles, it does not conclude that the buildings that are not risky meet the earthquake resistant design principles. Within the scope of Law No. 6306, simplified methods that can be used to determine the regional distribution of buildings that can be considered risky in certain areas and to make a prioritization decision, taking into account the characteristics of the building and the earthquake hazard, are given. With this method, calculations were made by taking a total of 120 building samples that make up the urban settlement areas in Dulkadiroğlu, Elbistan and Pazarcık districts of Kahramanmaraş province. In the risk determination of reinforced concrete structures, which are included in the principles for the determination of risky structures, 9% of the buildings examined were determined as very risky, 66% as medium risky, 24% as risky and 1% as risk-free This study will be a source for the building stock studies to be carried out for the province of Kahramanmaraş
Azerbaycan’ın tarımsal yapısı
Azerbaycan 86 600 km2 yüzölçümü içerisinde, çeşitlilik gösteren yüzey şekilleri, iklim özellikleri nedeniyle farklı tarım alanları ve zengin ürün çeşitliliğine sahiptir. Tarım Karabağ, Mil, Mugan, Samur-Deveci, Gusar ovaları, Lenkeran, Şeki, Nahçıvan, Dağlık Karabağ Bölgesi ovaları, Bakü, Sumgayıt, Gence ve Mingeçevir şehir çevrelerinde sulamayla, Şirvan Yaylası, Küçük Kafkaslar'ın kuzey yamaçları, Lenkeran, Kelbecer ve Haçmaz bölgelerinin orta dağlık sahalarında kuru tarım yöntemiyle yapılmaktadır. Sulu ve kuru tarım alanlarında, Sovyet döneminde özellikle 1970 yılı sonrasında uygulanan modern tekniklerle başta pamuk, üzüm, tütün ayrıca sebze-meyve, tahıl, çay, kavun-karpuz üretimi arttırılmıştır. Ancak Azerbaycan'ın bağımsızlığını kazandığı dönemde yaşanan siyasi istikrarsızlıklar, ekonomik bunalım, değişen tarım politikaları, pazar kayıpları, bakımsız tesisler, yetersiz araç-gereç, gübre ve tarımsal ilaçlar sonucunda tüm tarımsal üretim 2,5 kat azalmıştır. 1995 yılından sonra alınan tedbirlerle başta tahıl, patates, meyve, kavun-karpuz olmak üzere bitkisel üretimlerde artışlar yakalanmıştır. Bugün pamuk, üzüm, tütün, çay, zeytin, şekerpancarı üretimi önemini kaybetmiştir. Tarımdan ayrı düşünülemeyen hayvancılık, ülkenin doğal yaz-kış otlakları, Hazar Denizi ve önemli akarsu kıyıları boyunca küçükbaş, büyükbaş, kümes hayvancılığı, at, eşek, katır, deve, domuz, ipekböceği yetiştiriciliği ve balıkçılık (havyar) şeklinde yapılmaktadır. Hayvan sayısı ve hayvansal ürün (et, süt, yün, yumurta) üretimi, hiçbir zaman ülke ihtiyacını karşılayamamıştır. Tarım, Azerbaycan ekonomisindeki liderliğini günümüzde petrol sektörüne bırakarak ikinci planda kalmıştır. Ülke ihracatında tarım ürünlerinin payı 1998 yılı %7,7 oranından, 2001 yılında %2,4'e gerilerken, 2002 yılında %3,5'e yükselmiştir. Ülke ithalatında tarım ürünlerinin payı 1998 yılı %16,3 oranından 2001 yılında büyük başarı yakalayarak %1,6 oranına gerilemiştir. Tarım, verimlilik, üretim, tarımsal ticaret alanlarında yakalanan başarılara rağmen bugün hala istenilen seviyeye ulaşamamıştır. Azerbaijan, situated in a 86 600 km2 area has a variety of surface shapes and different agriculture areas as well as rich yield variety because of climate conditions. Agriculture, is manufactured by watering in Karabag, Mil, Mugan, Samur-Deveci, Gusar plains, Lenkeran, Şeki, Nahçıvan, Dağlık Karabağ Area plains, Baku, Sumgayıt and the city surroundings of Gence and Mingeçevir. Agriculture is produced by dry agriculture method in Şirvan plateau, northern sides of Small Caucasia, Lenkeran, Kelbecer and middle mountain areas of Haçmaz. In Soviet times, especially after 1970 cotton, grape, tobacco, vegetable, fruit, grain, tea, melon, watermelon production is increased in wet and dry agricultural areas by using modern techniques in agriculture. However, during the independency of Azerbaijan, many political problems occurred within economic crisis, changing agriculture policy, market loss, useless institutions, inadequate tools-manure-agricultural chemicals. Because of these problems the agricultural product decreased 2,5 times. After taking some precautions by the year 1995 and later, the production of vegetal products like grain, potato, fruit, melon, watermelon are increased. Nowadays, cotton, grape, tobacco, tea, olive, sugarbeet production lost its importance. Stockbreeding is manufactured with sheep or goat, cattle, poultry, horse, mule, donkey, camel, pig, sericulture and fishing (caviar) in the natural summer-winter meadows of the country, around Caspian Sea and important river sides. Stockbreeding quantity and livestock (meat, milk, wool, egg) product has never been adequate to the whole country. Agriculture was the leader factor in Azerbaijan economy, but agriculture decreased to the second position after oil sector. Agriculture product ratio of the country's export was 7,7% in 1998, but it decreased to 2,4% in 2001 then increased to 3,5% in 2002. Agriculture product ratio of the country's import was 16,3% in 1998. It moved backward successfully to 1,6% in 2001. Agriculture has not reached to the desired level in spite of achievement in productivity, production and agricultural commerce fields
