Development of an optimization proposal for a liquid agrochemical production line to improve production costs in an agrochemical company located in Amatitlán, Guatemala

una planta ubicada dentro del municipio de Amatitlán, en el departamento de Guatemala. El
proceso, en ese momento, se encontraba en condiciones aceptables, pero debido a que la empresa
fabricante de los productos agroquímicos estaba en un proceso de reorganización por un problema
ajeno a este trabajo, se vio en la necesidad de reducir al máximo los costos de producción.
En este proceso, los problemas que impedían y comprometían este objetivo se encontraban
en las áreas de formulación, específicamente al momento de moler la mezcla del agroquímico.
También se presentaban ciertas fallas recurrentes en la producción, las cuales ralentizaban el
envasado, que dependía totalmente del área de formulación para aumentar su eficiencia.
El trabajo se dividió en cuatro etapas principales: Se detalló y realizó un mapeo del proceso
actual para poder visualizar a detalle el flujo de trabajo y determinar posibles causas que estaban
ralentizando la producción. Esto se llevó a cabo tanto en el área de formulación como en el área
de envasado. Para ello, se utilizaron herramientas de visualización gráfica, y para identificar los
cuellos de botella se emplearon estudios de movimientos y estudios de tiempos para medir los
tiempos totales, promedios de duración y sus respectivas desviaciones.
Luego se analizó en su totalidad el proceso con los datos obtenidos en la primera etapa para
identificar las causas principales de la falta de eficiencia. Se realizaron simulaciones por software
del proceso de formulación y del área de envasado de manera separada, ya que, aunque operaban
en conjunto como un sistema, sus procesos funcionaban de manera independiente, con la única
dependencia de que el envasado se alimentaba del área de formulación.
Con el modelo virtual ya elaborado y las deficiencias analizadas, se realizó una evaluación
de alternativas para mejorar la eficiencia de la línea de producción. Se implementaron técnicas
como el MRP, movimientos estandarizados para los operarios y principios de Lean Six Sigma, todo
con el objetivo de reducir los costos y aumentar la eficiencia.
Finalmente, se evaluaron las alternativas propuestas y se validó su eficiencia a través de
simulaciones. Se compararon los resultados con el modelo original y se verificó si los costos de
producción y manufactura mejoraron en al menos un 3%. A partir de esto, se recomendaron las

The work was carried out at a plant located in the municipality of Amatitlán, in the department of Guatemala. At the time, the process was operating under acceptable conditions; however, due to the manufacturing company undergoing a reorganization unrelated to this project, it became necessary to minimize production costs as much as possible.
The issues hindering and compromising this goal were primarily found in the formulation area, specifically during the grinding of the agrochemical mixture. There were also recurring failures in production that slowed down packaging, which was entirely dependent on the formulation area to improve its efficiency.
The project was divided into four main stages: First, the current process was mapped in detail to visualize the workflow and identify possible causes of production delays. This was done in both the formulation and packaging areas. Graphic visualization tools were used, and bottlenecks were identified through motion studies and time studies to measure total times, average durations, and their respective deviations.
Next, the entire process was analyzed using the data obtained in the first stage to identify the main causes of inefficiency. Software simulations were carried out for both the formulation process and the packaging area separately, since although they operated together as a system, their processes functioned independently, with the only dependency being that packaging relied on formulation.
With the virtual model completed and deficiencies analyzed, an evaluation of alternatives was conducted to improve the efficiency of the production line. Techniques such as MRP, standardized operator movements, and Lean Six Sigma principles were implemented, all aimed at reducing costs and increasing efficiency.
Finally, the proposed alternatives were evaluated and validated through simulations. The results were compared with the original model to verify whether production and manufacturing costs improved by at least 3%. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
