Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Heavy metal contents in the Gediz River basin soil: Multivariate analysis for source tracing
6th International Conference of the Balkan-Physical-Union -- AUG 22-26, 2006 -- Istanbul, TURKEYA regional geochemical data set from a 17,000 km(2) in Turkey, analysed for 14 elements, was used to test the influence of different variants of factor analysis on the results extracted. Samples collected from the topsoil on the floodplain along Gediz River have been analysed for Al, Ca, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, K, Mg, Mn, Na, Ni, Pb and Zn by flame atomic absorption spectrometry to determine the extent of contamination and the geochemical processes of dispersion.Balkan Phys Union, Turkish Phys Soc, Istanbul Univ, Yildiz Tech Univ, Bogaz Univ, Dogus Univ, European Phys Soc, Govt Istanbul, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipal, Turkish Atomic Energy Author, Sci & Technol Res Council Turkey, United Natl Educ Sci & Cultutal Org, NEL Electroni

Investigation of structural and optical properties of InP thin films developed by using spraying method
6th International Conference of the Balkan-Physical-Union -- AUG 22-26, 2006 -- Istanbul, TURKEYStructural and optical properties of InP films developed with the solutions prepared with InCl3 and Cl2HPO4 salts having different rates by using spraying method have been investigated using the data obtained from UV spectrometer and XRD (x-ray difractometer). Band gap energy values of all samples obtained by using UV spectrometer are found in 1.60-1.85 eV range. It was observed that basic piks of all samples are in (200) plane and have a fee structure in the XRD analysis. In addition, grain size of the samples increases with the rate of indium included in samples and it is seen that the crystallization in surface structure tends to become more homogenity.Balkan Phys Union, Turkish Phys Soc, Istanbul Univ, Yildiz Tech Univ, Bogaz Univ, Dogus Univ, European Phys Soc, Govt Istanbul, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipal, Turkish Atomic Energy Author, Sci & Technol Res Council Turkey, United Natl Educ Sci & Cultutal Org, NEL Electroni
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
Molecular dynamics simulation of nCB series
6th International Conference of the Balkan-Physical-Union -- AUG 22-26, 2006 -- Istanbul, TURKEYThis study describes the molecular dynamics (MD) simulations of the 4-n-alkyl-4'-cyanobiphenyl (nCB, n=5-9) liquid crystal homologous series at a selected temperature in the nematic phase. The order parameters and the biaxialities for five mesogens were found to be reasonable agreement with experiments. The orientational distributions of C-C bonds in alkyl chain of nCB were calculated and given for 6CB and 7CB. The odd-even effect was also discussed.Balkan Phys Union, Turkish Phys Soc, Istanbul Univ, Yildiz Tech Univ, Bogaz Univ, Dogus Univ, European Phys Soc, Govt Istanbul, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipal, Turkish Atomic Energy Author, Sci & Technol Res Council Turkey, United Natl Educ Sci & Cultutal Org, NEL Electroni
Dynamics of ultrarelativistic jets
6th International Conference of the Balkan-Physical-Union -- AUG 22-26, 2006 -- Istanbul, TURKEYWe investigate the dynamics and morphology of jets propagating into the interstellar medium using 2D special relativistic hydrodynamics code. The calculations are performed assuming axisymmetric geometry and trace a long propagation of jets. The jets are assumed to be higher density than the ambient gas. The relativistic astrophysical jet is modeled for ultrarelativistic flow case. The dynamics of jet flowing is then determined by the ambient parameters such as densities, and velocities of the jets and the momentum impulse applied to the computational surface. We obtain solutions for the jet structure, propagation of jet during the time evolution, and variation in the Mach number, pressure and Lorentz factor on the computational domain at a fixed time.Balkan Phys Union, Turkish Phys Soc, Istanbul Univ, Yildiz Tech Univ, Bogaz Univ, Dogus Univ, European Phys Soc, Govt Istanbul, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipal, Turkish Atomic Energy Author, Sci & Technol Res Council Turkey, United Natl Educ Sci & Cultutal Org, NEL Electroni
Refractive index measurements in the lyotropic nematic phase
6th International Conference of the Balkan-Physical-Union -- AUG 22-26, 2006 -- Istanbul, TURKEYLiquid crystal is an intermediate state between liquid and solid. In crystalline phases, molecules possess orientational order and three dimensional positional order, while in isotropic phases the molecules lack (long-range) order. In the various liquid crystalline phases, the molecules are in between two extremes. Most liquid crystal molecules are large and anisotropic. Some ternary lyotropic system as tetradecyltrimethyl ammonium bromide + decanol + water (TTAB+decanol+H2O) can show different mesophase and nematic phases. The micellar aggregates that form such nematic phases can take different shapes. The uniaxial nematic phases have been shown to be prolate (calamitic-N-c) and oblate (discotic-N-d) micellar aggregates dispersed in water. The biaxial nematic phase (N-BX) appears to be an intermediate phase along the border between the two uniaxial nematic ones. In this study, we present the first optical observation on the thermal behaviour of refractive index and on the optical sing of a lyotropic nematic system formed by TTAB+decanol+water.Balkan Phys Union, Turkish Phys Soc, Istanbul Univ, Yildiz Tech Univ, Bogaz Univ, Dogus Univ, European Phys Soc, Govt Istanbul, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipal, Turkish Atomic Energy Author, Sci & Technol Res Council Turkey, United Natl Educ Sci & Cultutal Org, NEL Electroni
