Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Re-Move Lecco.
The project Re-Move Lecco deals with a still unsolved node, next to the train station and to the city centre. The main objective is to solve the urban fabric break due to the railway track, through the introduction of a cycle and pedestrian walkway that links the two parts of the city. Together with the new connection, there is the realization of an interchange, with the introduction of a bus terminal and a bike centre. The tracks for the maintenance of the trains are relocated to allow the creation of a new green lug.
The project focuses in detail on the ex Ferrhotel building, conceived as an integral part of the new urban plan. Located on the track of the cycle and pedestrian walkway, the building aims to fill two lacking sectors for the city: tourist accommodation and culture. The dormitory becomes the new innovative hotel; a newly built body completes the overall volume that hosts leisure, study and work spaces. A restaurant and an equipped bike storage area complete the set of functions. The building takes the form of a pole of attraction able to answear to the contemporary city users’ needs, hosting inside an unusual functional mix.
A strategy for energy retrofit through the use of wooden prefabricated panels is studied in detail. The careful choice of the functional layers, characterized by the use of breathable and sustainable materials goes along with the structural design of the module. Modes of plan integration are investigated to make the best of a prefabricated technology, that allows to merge in a single element a wide set of functionalities. Lighting considerations and indications for catalogation, transport and installation complete the study of a module carefully designed to minimize time and costs in the building site.
Energy simulations allow to evaluate the effectiveness of the recladding intervention, together with the other project interventions. Other topics of deepening are the plant systems and the structure of the newly built volume, to realize a perfect synergy between technical and architectural needs.
The project deals with the resolution of specific urban criticality of the site as well as with a technology replicable within the Italian and European building stock
The intervention of restoration on the ex Sea Sift abandoned buildings is part of a varied and complex urban transformation characterized by the fact that the city of Piacenza is an infrastructural hub,on a national and european level, and that the built up area has an important historical matrix.
The starting point for the reallocation of the buildings has been the study of the large-scale territorial and environmental dynamics, with the intention of suggesting solutions to renew the city, according to the ongoing infrastructural transformations and their consequences on the built-up area.
Furthermore, also because of the existence of a large amount of abandoned buildings (former military areas), it has been made an attempt to create connections and synergies with the rest of the city, both from a functional and a physical point of view of the urban connections (restoration of the Mura farnesiane’s park).
It is part of the urban renewal the idea of recreating, inside a building with a fine historical-artistic value, an experimental theatre and a cultural centre, which could be an attraction pole for the dislocated functions in the territory.
Due to the imposing architectural structure and its not rigid installation, the area lends itself well to host this kind of theatre, characterized by constant evolution and transformation of the language and the represented sceneries.
The theatre area is completed and supported by creative workshops and a big exhibit room
porto turistico e di strutture ricettive all’avanguardia.
storicamente dalle soluzioni edilizie delle popolazioni autoctone, abili nell’edificare
in queste zone morfologicamente impervie.
The idea of this project has come out from a territorial study of Lecco, which
has never had a long-term strategy of tourism development. That’s why it’s been
decided to develop the A.T.U. 19 of the P.G.T., the ambit of urban trasformation
of the area of Caviate, whose main purpose is the realization of a marina ad an
accomotaion a the vanguard.
The project complexity derives from the intention of findinf a deep integration and
a fair balance between the new building and the exceptional natural setting.
This architectural project has been elaborated to create a lively and dynamic
environment through intended use for transversal users and a light mobility
system directly integrated with the lake Greenway.
Architectural and material choises have been a first step towards a harmonious
dialogue with local construction technologies, born from the need to build in a
harsh area.
Understanding sustainability not only as a formal concept, the callange has been
based on the study of composition and technology in order to reduce the use
of system solutions and improve the uptake and energy conservation through
passive solutions.
Precast technology has been the most suitable choiche of costruction for the
control of structural elements and construction site safety. It has also helped to
reduce structural spaces in favor of a greater freedom of composition.
In conclusion, this project aims to provide a solution capable of transforming an
essentially peripheral area into a new tourist attraction, and respecting the natural
environment and in a more comprehendive idea of downtown
Saving neverland.
The Internal Areas in Italy occupy 60% of the national surface and welcome more than half of the Italian Municipalities, with a total population of almost 14 million inhabitants.
These areas are characterized by a considerable distance from the major centers offering those services defined as essential: mobility, health and education.
Each of these territories has different peculiarities, but of great value: environmental resources, such as forests, water and agricultural resources, and cultural ones, with museums, monasteries and archaeological heritage; however this did not prevent the great exodus that started in the post-war period and continued until today, due to which the Internal Areas have undergone a serious process of marginalization.
In Emilia-Romagna there are several territories within the National Strategy of Internal Areas, including the Alta Val Nure, in the Piacenza area.
Here is the municipality of Farini, which has just over 1000 inhabitants but covers an area of about 112 km2. It too perfectly respects the topoi of the internal areas: demographic decline, little demand for work, serious gaps in basic services, but a large territory full of resources.
For all these reasons, we wanted to design a place that would become the new beating center of Farini's life and beyond: a place where you could study remotely, learn a new profession, a point to bring citizenship together and where to keep memories and the stories of a fascinating territory.
The goal is to repopulate Farini and revitalize the local economy with a main agricultural and artisan vocation, welcoming individuals or families from foreign countries (such as asylum seekers and refugees) or from other parts of Italy, offering them a new opportunity. working.
From an architectural point of view, a building has been recovered for many years as a mining factory, located in the center of Farini and located near the Nure stream, symbol of this valley, but also the protagonist of a terrible flood in 2015.
Therefore, a broad analysis was carried out on various issues: from the analysis of existing architectures to the study of the historical and natural context, from the construction to the consolidation of the structures with different methods, from the study of the hydraulic arrangement of the stream to technological and energy development.
The project, therefore, aims to recover in the broad sense of the word: to architecturally and structurally redevelop a building, certainly.
But even before that, one must necessarily think of re-evaluating and re-evaluating the territories, of giving new life to places considered lost, of reintegrating groups of people in search of redemption into work and social dynamics
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
The Vltava Philharmonic Hall
Many concert and philharmonic halls have become iconic symbols for their cities, enhancing their reputation and image worldwide or revitalizing the surrounding area. However, the audience for philharmonic halls and classical music had a historical tendency to be from the upper classes or the educated elite. Over time, the audience has become more diverse and Philharmonic halls have made and make effort to break down these barriers.
The city of Prague has a rich musical history dating back to the 18th century, with renowned composers contributing to its classical music scene such as Dvorak, Smetana and Janacek. However, Prague’s two existing symphonic halls are more than 100 years old and suffer from technical lacks, with a relatively low number of seats. To address this issue and capitalize on its musical heritage, the city wishes to build a new world-class venue with high acoustic performances. This project is part of a wider effort to create a new cultural focal point in the Prague 7 district, progressively transformed from an industrial area to a vibrant artistic scene.
This thesis aims to propose a new city-integrated complex with a strong identity and high-quality acoustics. The complex consists of 3 mineral volumes that face the Vltava river and are carved with a musical partition inspired by the river itself. These volumes are hierarchized around the concert halls and the functions they house. They are united by an organic platform that acts as both a pedestal and belvedere. The platform creates dynamic public spaces, with restaurants, and is designed to be completely permeable to the public. The core of the project lies in the main volume, with a large 1800-seat vineyard configuration philharmonic hall.
Beginning with a study of the context, and case studies of urban integrated Philharmonic halls, the proposal proceeds with a historical study of Philharmonic halls and other architectural spaces for music. The architectonic design is then developed, showcasing how the volumes and shapes were born from the context (physical, cultural and musical) and thought along with the interior organization of the whole complex. Focus is then put on the volume hosting the Philharmonic Hall, developing acoustic concepts and the intricate interior design to meet technical and service requirements. Structural details and technological solutions for the project’s unique features are provided to ensure the feasibility of the main hall. Finally, the thermal behavior of the building is analyzed
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
